Walled In

The audience for thrillers is considerable, but it is questionable to what extent audiences are satisfied with the productions in this genre. It is difficult to find successful thrillers and to be able to say “this is it” while watching the movie with affected emotions.

For myself, I care about the atmosphere created in thrillers and keeping the story as mysterious as possible. If I am impressed by the story and the atmosphere of the movie, and if I catch the tension blended with the horror genre; that movie is definitely high on my success bar.

I finally watched Walled In, which I added to my watch list with the recommendation of a few friends. Before moving on to my thoughts on the movie, I would like to evaluate the plot of the movie, because I can say that the plot of the movie is absolutely beautiful that multiplies my tendency to watch it.

Sam (played by Mischa Barton), a young woman fresh out of school, is in the family business of building demolition, and as a reward from her father, she is tasked with making the preparations for her first building demolition.

I find the subject matter of the movie valuable because the building to be demolished has memories of many lives. In fact, it could be called a mausoleum, but I don't want to spoil anyone's viewing pleasure by going too deep into the story.

In the movie, a mystical atmosphere is created through the building that will be demolished and you can feel it while watching the movie. The elements of ordinary horror are left to the building and the images inside the building, while the suspense has turned into a phenomenon that the characters try to create and whose presence and absence is not clear.

In short, the atmosphere created through the building is not accompanied by the characters and the suspense aspect of the movie is a bit empty. The reason for the characters not being able to accompany the story is not only due to the poor performances of the actors. While the atmosphere created around the building and its history was progressing very successfully and drew the audience into the story, the characters switching to another story reduced the impact of the movie.

It was disappointing that the fear and the tension created turned into the platonic love of a teenage boy and at one point the movie veered towards perversion, but fortunately it recovered quickly.

In fact, the movie would have been much more successful if the script had been limited to the history of the building and what happened in the building years ago, and the main theme of human life giving strength to the foundations of the building and defining the building as a living legend. I could even call it an excellent psychological thriller for a movie that I now find lacking in suspense.

I liked the plot of the movie very much, but I found the processing of the story and the contribution of the actors very inadequate. When you try to create a story for a story, the stories that are added later must be in harmony with the main story. This harmony was not there at all in the movie and the movie got separated from the main story after a certain point, even though it seemed to return to the main story at the end; the pleasure of watching the movie was already lost.

I leave the decision about watching the movie to you. I can't say that Walled In was very bad, but I can't say that it was above mediocre either. I can only say that it is a shame for the promise and beauty of the movie's origin story. A potentially great movie was wasted because of the director and actor choices. If the script was adhered to in the later stages of the film, the screenwriter also contributed to this. Otherwise, it was perfect as the beginning of a scenario.

Thank you for being here and reading. I hope I was able to give you a preliminary idea about the movie and help you. I wish everyone who will watch the movie a good time, goodbye!
