Quo vadis, Aida? - Can Aida save her family? Or will she have to leave them to die?

Quo vadis, Aida?, one of the productions that shed light on our recent history, is full of important arguments that prove the ineffectiveness and lack of authority of the United Nations.

The struggle of Bosniak and Serb forces in Srebrenica, who managed to live together for years but had to fight after the army came to power, is reflected to the audience through the character of Aida.

Aida, who worked as an English teacher in Srebrenica before the war, works as an interpreter for the UN and finds herself suddenly involved in political negotiations after the war starts and the United Nations deploys to create a safe zone in the city.

So far, Quo vadis, Aida? The movie is based on the separation and conflict between the Serbian and Bosniak peoples and their causes, but what really adds drama to the film is Aida's desperation when she is torn between her job and her family.

Serbian forces enter a UN-controlled camp where Bosniaks have taken refuge and want to take all the civilians. This is where the ineffectiveness and lack of authority of the UN forces begins, because the UN hands over all the civilians to the Serbian forces.

This event, which took place in July 1995, goes down in history as the Srebrenica genocide. More than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were massacred and buried in mass graves in the town of Srebrenica, which the UN declared a safe zone. This was the first genocide to take place on European soil after the Second World War. source

Aida will do everything she can to prevent her husband and two sons from being handed over to the Serbs. You can see the results of her struggle and her pleas to the UN soldiers by watching the movie. I don't want to spoil your viewing pleasure by telling you in advance, but I can say this much; it is impossible not to feel and understand her desperation as a human being.

Quo vadis, Aida? The most important scene that impressed me in the movie was when the Serbian soldier, who was Aida's teacher before the war, repeatedly called her “teacher” and pointed his gun at her. I find it strange in the name of humanity that people who are so intertwined with each other can become so hostile after a political disagreement.

The fact that the UN forces, which we have repeatedly seen to be extremely ineffective in the implementation of the decisions they took and the decisions they failed to take, handed over the civilians to the Serbian forces is a fact that should be questioned by all living people and everyone who is interested in history in the future, regardless of the movie.

Jasna Drucic, who plays the character of Aida, perfectly portrays helplessness. In the rush between her work and her family, she both lives and successfully reflects the helplessness of all the civilians she tries to save.

I recommend everyone to watch the movie Quo vadis, Aida? I must say that I am amazed that a human being can be so hostile to another human being because of a different nationality or belief. I hope that through productions like this and the punishments for crimes against humanity, we will not experience similar tragedies again.

1995 will be the year I realized how useless the UN is...

Thank you for being here and reading. I hope I have helped you to get a preliminary idea about the movie and I wish a good time to those who will see it. Take care and goodbye!
