NOWHERE 2023 - Escape from a Totolitarian Country in Ruins
I would like to talk about a movie that I found very successful, which managed to make its audience feel the tension at the peaks, which contains a struggle for survival and at the same time provides empathy.
The name of the film is NOWHERE and I see it as a candidate to be one of the best films of this year. I watched the film today and I found it very successful in terms of acting, visual shots, color harmonies.
The story is quite simple and straightforward, but the difficulties that arise in the story, the changing circumstances and the instinctive decision-making are perfectly handled. Many scenes have the added skill of causing us to empathize with how we would make decisions when faced with the same challenges.
I often mention that I always tend to watch movies about the struggle for survival. Even though the movie NOWHERE is presented as a struggle for survival as the main story, it stands out from other genres thanks to the details added into the story, which I think are excellent.
After praising the movie so much, let's elaborate on the story of the movie and get into it. Mia (played by Anna Castillo), our protagonist and the one who I think single-handedly drags the movie, is forced to leave her country, which has become unlivable due to the policies of the oppressive regime, for another country. The trip doesn't go as planned and suddenly she finds herself locked in a container in the middle of the sea. She is about to give birth and is in no condition to call for help.
The already difficult conditions become even more difficult; the struggle for survival begins. While you wonder what more could go wrong for a pregnant woman alone in the middle of the sea, many unimaginable mishaps occur one after the other and offer what I think is a great pleasure to watch.
Almost all the scenes of putting yourself in the protagonist's shoes and empathizing with her take place in a container. Many difficulties have to be overcome, including giving birth alone, because survival is not easy.
Anna Castillo's outstanding performance as Mia is undoubtedly an important element that brings the movie to the top level, but I liked the baby, Noah, who brought a new dimension to the movie from the moment he was born. The most beautiful scenes were the way he gave his mother Mia, who had been going back and forth between holding on to life and not holding on to life until that moment, a reason to live and his sympathetic looks. I think they really used newborn babie during the shootings.
The color choices of the film, most of which took place at sea and in containers, were another element that reinforced the success. The moments of desperate search for solutions to hold on to life and the feeling of obligation brought by desperation were touching. I recommend the movie to everyone, it was one of the must-see movies.
