Alien invasion movie | Battle: Los Angeles
After binge-watching the 8-episode 3 Body Problem series, I got so hooked on sci-fi movies with an "alien invasion" theme. The next one on my list was Battle: Los Angeles.
The depiction of Battle: Los Angeles about the alien invasion is entirely different from 3 Body Problem (or 3BP). In 3BP, the alien invaders were so intelligent and highly technological race. They developed a technology, a computer the size of a proton, that can spy, learn, manipulate, and even destroy the science & technology of the human race. They were able to unleash the proton computers to Earth and disrupt the advancement of science (for a while) so much earlier before they even arrived on Earth. I would say that they have calculated and analyzed every scenario of their invasion to win over the human race.
With the help of Sophons, the alien invaders were able to manipulate video recordings, flicker the stars, and hack the retina of a person's eye to show or hide anything.
It's fascinating and scary at the same time. It may not be able to do direct harm to anyone but it was able to cause mass hysteria and fear to the people who were subjected to its effects. The lack of understanding and knowledge was more than enough reason for any person to fear.
In the case of Battle: Los Angeles; the depiction was different.
The alien invaders entered the Earth's atmosphere in the form of meteor showers. Humanity wasn't bothered at first because meteor showers were considered to be a common occurrence until they turned out to be spaceships. The supposed meteor showers slowed down as it reached the atmosphere and landed on the ocean.
It was kind of a surprise attack because the landing was followed by the emergence of the mechanized aliens which started attacking everything that was in their paths. The alien invaders were chaotic and they didn't even try to communicate to the humans.
Although alien tech is superior to human technology, their technology is inferior compared to the alien invaders that were featured in 3 Body Problem.
The humans have dissected one of the aliens and easily learned their weaknesses. It goes to show that their technology and biology were not that different from the human species. The alien invaders of Battle: Los Angeles were equipped with stronger firepower and were cyborgs but that's just it. They don't appear invincible in comparison to the technology that the 3BP alien invader's technology.
Regardless, the Battle: Los Angeles is a movie that I can recommend to others, especially those who enjoy action & sci-fi movies.
Fun flick. My friend from college was an actor in this one!
That's so cool man!
He also played Hoyt in HBO's True Blood... interestingly the only human character in the entire show's run who survived Bon Temps without dying!
