Celine Song's feature debut as director and screenwriter is one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever seen on screen and my favorite love story of 2023. I saw it when it came out midway through last year and rewatched it again last week. It's a movie that hurts, yes, but that you can't help but love and that stays with you like that love lost forever but treasured in your heart.
A few days ago I read that Martin Scorsese had said that his favorites of the last films he had seen were Past Lives and Perfect Days and I fully agree with him. However, although Past Lives has earned a place in my heart, it's difficult to compare it with Oppenheimer. There is a difference in history, resources, budget, audience, and I understand why there are people who are against these awards, how can one film be considered better than another since each one is different and true to itself? The Holdovers made me laugh more than Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things made me reflect on the female condition as much as Barbie, The Zone of Interest made me think about evil with half the length of Killers of the Flower Moon, but which is better? what does it mean to be better? El debut cinematográfico de Celine Song como directora y guionista es una de las historias de amor más hermosas que he visto en la pantalla y mi historia de amor favorita del 2023.
