Nello spazio angusto di una baita isolata, Shyamalan affresca un giudizio universale decisamente meno affollato di quello monumentale di Michelangelo ma indubbiamente più incisivo per lo spettatore contemporaneo. In una stanza, si consuma la tragedia dell'intera umanità carnefice e vittima di se stessa.

I piani stretti, i primi piani soffocanti, le inquadrature inclinate e le distorsioni grandangolari raccontano, grazie a interpretazioni notevoli e a un occhio registico visionario e sopra le righe, i conflitti intimi e collettivi di un'umanità cieca e in caduta libera. Bussano alla porta le responsabilità e sono sempre pochi quelli disposti ad aprire.
