The first installment of a sequel that never goes out of style [ENG/ESP]

I remember when I saw it for the first time years ago, I was shocked and excited by everything you see in the film. After watching it again with a better understanding I was able to capture other important things, perhaps not very relevant for our times because today police corruption is not something new but common in many parts of the world, but at the time this film came out In the light, those topics were considered “taboo” so to speak.

The plot of this film or this sequel revolves around Rama, an Indonesian soldier who belongs to the Swat group, which has been entrusted with the difficult mission of disrupting an organized crime center, a place where the police force does not reach and where anarchy, drug addiction and much more reign, it is another world within the city.

The role of Rama is played by the excellent Indonesian actor Iko Uwais, one of the best martial artists in the world of cinema. His films are usually very violent but loaded with a lot of realism, The Raid is no exception, in fact it is classified as the film that made him rise to stardom due to his fantastic performance, in addition to that it had high acceptance from international critics for the development of it.

Recuerdo cuando la vi por primera vez hace años, quede impactado y emocionado por todo lo que se ve en la película. Después de volverla a ver con un mejor entendimiento pude captar otras cosas importantes, quizás no muy relevantes para nuestros tiempos porque hoy en día la corrupción policiaca no es algo novedoso sino común en muchas partes del mundo, pero en el tiempo que esta película salió a la luz esos temas eran considerados “tabúes” por decirlo de alguna manera.

La trama de este film o de esta secuela gira en torno a Rama, un soldado indonesio que pertenece al grupo Swat, el cual se les ha encomendado la difícil misión de desbaratar un centro del crimen organizado, un lugar donde no llega la fuerza policiaca y donde reina la anarquía, la drogadicción y mucho más, es otro mundo dentro de la ciudad.

El papel de Rama es interpretado por el excelente actor indonesio Iko Uwais, uno de los mejores artistas marciales que existen en el mundo cinematográfico. Sus películas suelen ser muy violentas pero cargadas de mucho realismo, The Raid no es la excepción, de hecho es catalogada como la película que lo hizo saltar al estrellato por su fantástica actuación, además de eso tuvo una alta aceptación de la crítica internacional por el desarrollo de la misma.

Rama, as I mentioned before, belongs to the special forces and must go to the building with his team and reach the ringleader and kill him, but it is a very difficult mission, it could even be classified as suicidal. He imagines entering a lion's den, no matter how armed you are, there will come a time when the lion will devour you. I think this analogy fits this story very well, however it has a slightly different development due to unexpected factors within the plot.

What if you see is blood and action, cruelty and many martial arts, a reality of what is seen as normal in the underworld or in most developing countries, we will be able to appreciate how difficult it can be for authority to do in the face of a force as organized as the mafia. And much more so when there is corruption within the police forces.

The other character that stands out is Yahan Ruhian, a veteran of acting, but also known for his excellent martial arts. In this film he develops as one of the boss's guardians (Yakuza) and delights us with spectacular battles against the official forces and against our aforementioned protagonist.

Rama como mencione anteriormente pertenece a las fuerzas especiales y debe ir al edificio con su equipo y llegar al cabecilla y matarlo, pero es una misión muy difícil, incluso suicida se podría catalogar. Imagina entrar a una guarida de leones, por muy armado que estés llegara un momento donde el león te devorara. Pienso que esta analogía le queda muy bien a esta historia, sin embargo tiene un desarrollo un poco distinto debido a factores inesperados dentro de la trama.

Lo que si veras es sangre y acción, crueldad y muchas artes marciales, una realidad de lo que se ve normal en el bajo mundo o en la mayoría de los países en vías de desarrollo, podremos apreciar lo difícil que puede ser para la autoridad hacer frente a una fuerza tan organizada como lo es la mafia. Y mucho más cuando hay corrupción dentro de las fuerzas policiacas.

El otro personaje que salta a la vista es Yahan Ruhian, un veterano de la actuación, pero también conocido por sus excelentes artes marciales. En esta película se desarrolla como uno de los guardianes del jefe (Yakuza) y nos deleita con espectaculares batallas contra las fuerzas oficiales y contra nuestro protagonista mencionado anteriormente.

But at the end of the day not everything is violence in this production, although most of it is. There are dramas included, a pregnant wife, a chance meeting between brothers and decisions that are still important in the entire development of the story. The best of all is its ability to engage from the beginning, because it takes us to a situation that quickly fuels our thirst for justice. Who doesn't like crime to be defeated? I think only criminals don't like it for logical reasons, but in our human nature we enjoy how justice fights evil, and this type of film is ideal for that.

Being the first of two films, it leaves us with a taste of more, although the main issue in this installment was not unfinished, it did leave the story in a “what happens next”, and in that sense I think that the production did its job, since it allows us to long for that second part and conclude the complete story.

Perhaps you have already seen it because it is on its way to becoming a cinema classic, but if you have not, I encourage you to see it, it is a production that is worth watching, and even more so if you like action films full of adrenaline and good stories. Soon I will be reviewing the second part and with that I will conclude this interesting saga.

Pero al final de cuentas no todo es violencia en esta producción, aunque si en su mayor parte. Hay dramas incluidos, una esposa embarazada, un encuentro fortuito entre hermanos y decisiones que no dejan de ser importantes en todo el desarrollo de la historia. Lo mejor de todo es la capacidad que tiene para enganchar desde el principio, porque nos traslada a una situación que aviva nuestra sed de justicia rápidamente. ¿A quién no le gusta que el crimen sea derrotado? Pienso que solo a los criminales no les gusta por razones lógicas, pero en nuestra naturaleza humana disfrutamos como la justicia lucha contra el mal, y este tipo de películas es ideal para ello.

Al ser la primera de dos películas nos deja con un sabor a más, aunque no quedó inconcluso el asunto principal en esta entrega si dejo la historia en un “que paso luego”, y en ese sentido pienso que la producción cumplió con su trabajo, ya que nos permite anhelar esa segunda parte y concluir la historia completa.

Quizás ya la has visto porque va en camino a convertirse en un clásico del cine, pero si no lo has hecho te animo a verla, es una producción que vale la pena observar, y más si te gustan las películas de acción cargadas de adrenalina y buenas historias. Próximamente estaré reseñando la segunda parte y con ello concluiré esta interesante saga.
