Magi: An Anime Deeper Than It Looks // Magi: Un anime más profundo de lo que parece [ENG/ESP]

When you see characters like Aladdin, Sinbad and Alibaba in Japanese anime it is not easy to move on, many of us grew up with these characters but seeing a Japanese series that uses their names and also a certain style in the design may initially seem like a parody or something similar, that was precisely the impression that I got when I saw the cover and then when I took some time to watch the first chapter, at that moment it called little my attention, seeing Aladdin thrown with women made me laugh but did not encourage me much to continue watching it, however I decided to venture a little more and I must say that I do not regret having done it.

This anime shows us that appearances can be deceiving, its plot is spectacular, it has literally everything, slavery, sexuality, death, drama, sadness, joy, comedy and fantasy, it is a faithful adaptation to the manga and that is positive in many aspects, only two seasons have been animated but the complete adaptation is planned, maybe we already had it all but due to the Pandemic a few years ago the process was temporarily stopped.

Even so we have enough material to enjoy, the manga is complete and you can enjoy these two adaptations that take us to an ancient world where kings and wars are often present, the main character is Aladdin, but who is he? initially we see him as a traveler who has a mission to accomplish, as the plot progresses we can learn a little more about him, it turns out that Aladdin is a Magi, What is that? A Magi is the center of the story, in the series the world develops under the powers of these magicians, originally there are 3 in each era but it turns out that Aladdin is the fourth bringing some enigma with that and in turn causing intrigue to the other Magi, especially Judar who we will talk about later. The role of the Magi is to choose a candidate for king to help him and lend him their powers so that they can later rule the world. However, Aladdin's role goes beyond that because he is the son of the most powerful magician who existed in the history of mankind, so he is known later in the plot as the Magi of creation and under that role he begins to develop his functions and skills.

Cuando ves personajes como Aladdin, Simbad y Alibaba en anime japonés no es fácil continuar adelante, muchos de nosotros crecimos con estos personajes pero ver una serie nipona que use sus nombres y también cierto estilo en el diseño puede inicialmente parecer una parodia o algo similar, esa fue la impresión que precisamente me causo al ver la portada y luego cuando me tome un tiempo para ver el primer capítulo, en ese momento llamo poco mi atención, ver a Aladdin lanzado con las mujeres me causo risa pero no me animo mucho para seguir viéndola, sin embargo decidí aventurarme un poco más y debo decir que no me arrepiento de haberlo hecho.

Este anime nos muestra que las apariencias pueden engañar, su trama es espectacular, tiene de todo literalmente, esclavitud, sexualidad, muerte, drama, tristeza, alegría, comedia y fantasía, es una adaptación fiel al manga y eso es positivo en muchos aspectos, solamente se han animado dos temporadas pero se tiene previsto la adaptación completa, quizás ya la tuviéramos toda pero debido a la Pandemia de hace unos años el proceso se detuvo temporalmente.

Aun así tenemos bastante material para disfrutar, el manga está completo y se pueden disfrutar de estas dos adaptaciones que nos trasladan a un mundo antiguo donde los reyes y las guerras se hacen presente con frecuencia, el personaje principal es Aladdin, ¿pero quién es el? inicialmente lo vemos como un viajero que tiene una misión por cumplir, a medida que la trama avanza podemos conocer un poco más de él, resulta que Aladdin es un Magi, ¿Qué es eso? Un Magi es el centro de la historia, en la serie el mundo se desarrolla bajo los poderes de estos magos, originalmente existen 3 en cada era pero resulta que Aladdin es el cuarto trayendo cierto enigma con eso y a su vez causando intriga a los otros Magi, sobre todo a Judar de quien hablaremos mas adelante. La función de los Magi es la de escoger un candidato a rey para ayudarlo y prestarle sus poderes para que más adelante puedan gobernar el mundo. Sin embargo el papel de Aladdin va más allá de eso debido a que es el hijo del mago más poderoso que existió en la historia de la humanidad, por lo que es conocido más adelante en la trama como el Magi de la creación y bajo ese rol comienza a desarrollar sus funciones y habilidades.

Being a magi Aladdin also chose a king candidate, and this is where Alibaba Saluja enters the scene a royal prince who was born under the king's affair with a prostitute woman, because of that Alibaba grew up without knowing anything about his father, living in the slums and stealing to survive with his friends once his mother dies. When he is chosen by Aladdin his life changes, although at the moment he wants to take advantage of him to conquer a dungeon and become powerful. The dungeons are places where genies or djinn live, when they are conquered these Djinn give their powers to the conqueror and equip him to be a quite capable king container. Part of the mission of the magi is to help them in this task so Aladdin and Alibaba undertake this adventure with the mission to conquer the dungeon of Amon, a Djinn of fire. Once they succeed Alibaba and Aladdin are separated for a while, but agree to meet again later, when they do the story and the plot has advanced a little further and it turns out that Alibaba Saluja has become the leader of a squad of thieves fighting for the freedom of his country from the tyranny of those in power, then it is revealed an important part of his past.

Siendo un magi Aladdin también escogió un candidato de rey, y aquí es donde entra en escena Alibaba Saluja un príncipe real que nació bajo el amorío del rey con una mujer prostituta, debido a eso Alibaba creció sin saber nada de su padre, viviendo en los barrios pobres y robando para sobrevivir junto a sus amigos una vez muere su madre. Al ser escogido por Aladdin su vida cambia, aunque de momento quiere aprovecharse de el para conquistar una mazmorra y hacerse poderoso. Las mazmorras son lugares donde habitan genios o djinn, al ser conquistadas estos Djinn les otorgan sus poderes al conquistador y lo equipan para ser un contenedor de rey bastante capaz. Parte de la misión de los magi es ayudarles en esta tarea por lo que Aladdin y Alibaba emprenden esta aventura con la misión de conquistar la mazmorra de Amón, un Djinn de fuego. Una vez lo logran Alibaba y Aladdin se separan por un tiempo, pero acuerdan en volverse a ver más adelante, cuando lo hacen la historia y la trama ha avanzado un poco más y resulta que Alibaba Saluja se ha convertido en el líder de un escuadrón de ladrones que lucha por la libertad de su país de la tiranía de quienes están en el poder, en ese entonces se da a conocer parte importante de su pasado.

At this point appears the most incredible character of the whole series, Sinbad the king of Sindria and conqueror of the 7 seas, his personality is very attractive, he has a very strong charisma and power of persuasion, his fame has spread throughout the known kingdom because since his youth he conquered dungeons, in fact he was the first to conquer one, but when he is known he has conquered seven so he is an extremely powerful king. He is allied with extremely strong warriors, most of them friends of his childhood to whom he made them share his own powers and who are his faithful and loyal servants, with them he has formed the alliance of the 7 seas, an alliance that intervenes little in the plot but has a very important weight. Simbad has the ambition to conquer everything but because of his past he wants to do it without war since he lost everything he loved when he was a child. Yunan his magi abandoned him because he was afraid of him, for him Sinbad was a container of ideal king and that could lead him to become later even a tyrant.

En este punto aparece el personaje más increíble de toda la serie, Simbad el rey de Sindria y conquistador de los 7 mares, su personalidad es muy atrayente, tiene un carisma y poder de persuasión bastante fuertes, su fama se ha extendido por todo el reino conocido a causa que desde la juventud conquisto calabozos, de hecho fue el primero en conquistar uno, pero cuando se le conoce ha conquistado siete por lo que es un rey sumamente poderoso. Esta aliado con guerreros extremadamente fuertes, la mayoría de ellos amigos de su infancia a quienes les hizo partícipe de sus propios poderes y quiénes son sus fieles y leales servidores, con ellos ha conformado la alianza de los 7 mares, una alianza que interviene poco en la trama pero tiene un peso bastante importante. Simbad posee la ambición de conquistarlo todo pero a causa de su pasado quiere hacerlo sin guerras ya que perdió todo lo que amaba cuando era un niño. Yunan su magi lo abandono porque le tuvo temor, para el Simbad era un contenedor de rey ideal y eso podría llevarlo a convertirse más adelante incluso en un tirano.

Morgiana is a slave who gradually becomes one of the main characters, she was with Alibaba and Aladdin in the dungeon of Amon but she was with a master who cruelly enslaved her since she was a child, it is paradoxical and at the same time interesting, Morgiana belongs to a tribe called Fanalis, a tribe extremely powerful but almost "extinct" in the present, she could have freed herself whenever she wanted but she was a prisoner of her own mental chains, so she lived as a slave and suffered as such until another slave together with Alibaba and Aladdin freed her. From there, not knowing what to do, she set out on a journey to her homeland, but she could not get there at that time, her path crossed with Aladdin and later with Alibaba whom she secretly loved without knowing it, as she had lived as a slave she did not know what she felt, although later she understands it clearly.

Morgiana es una esclava que poco a poco se vuelve uno de los personajes principales, estuvo con Alibaba y Aladdin en la mazmorra de Amón pero estaba con un amo que la esclavizaba cruelmente desde que era una niña, es paradójico y a la vez interesante, Morgiana pertenece a una tribu llamada Fanalis, una tribu en extremo poderosa pero casi “extinta” en el presente, pudo haberse liberado por ella misma cuando quisiera pero era prisionera de sus propias cadenas mentales, por eso vivió como esclava y sufrió como tal hasta que otro esclavo juntamente con Alibaba y Aladdin la liberaron. A partir de allí sin saber que hacer emprendió un viaje hacia su tierra natal, pero no pudo llegar en ese entonces, su camino se cruzó con Aladdin y posteriormente con Alibaba a quien amaba secretamente sin saberlo, como había vivido siendo una esclava no sabía que era lo que sentía, aunque más adelante lo entiende claramente.

Finally we have Judar, the magi of the Kou empire, this magi has a history with Simbad and his friends because he was the one who destroyed their village and caused the deaths of their loved ones when Simbad was just a child, Judar is different from all the magi, His energy is dark and he loves to cause wars, the first time he meets Aladdin he ignores him but soon after in the same order of events when he learns that he is a magi like him he decides to kill him without further ado, for him only 3 magi must exist, if there is one more he must die. Judar is shown as an evil magi, he belongs to the Kou Empire and is dominated by an ancient witch named Arba, she induced him to fall into depravity when he was a child and become evil, Judar without knowing that grew up loving evil, until later Aladdin with his great power frees him and shows him his past. From then on his life changes, he goes into a state of inexplicable passivity until little by little, due to circumstances in the plot, he fights on the side of justice and becomes a powerful ally.

Por ultimo tenemos a Judar, el magi del imperio Kou, este magi tiene una historia con Simbad y sus amigos pues fue el quien destruyo su pueblo y causo las muertes de sus seres queridos cuando Simbad era solo un niño, Judar es diferente a todos los magi, su energía es oscura y ama causar las guerras, la primera vez que se cruza con Aladdin lo ignora pero poco después en el mismo orden de eventos cuando se entera que es un magi como el decide matarlo sin más, para el solo 3 magi deben existir, si hay uno más ese debe morir. Judar se muestra como un magi maligno, pertenece al Imperio Kou y es dominado por una antigua bruja llamada Arba, ella lo indujo a caer en la depravación cuando era un niño y volverse maligno, Judar sin saber eso creció amando la maldad, hasta que más adelante Aladdin con su gran poder lo libera y le muestra su pasado. A partir de ese entonces su vida cambia, pasa a un estado de pasividad inexplicable hasta que poco a poco por circunstancias en la trama lucha del lado de la justicia convirtiéndose en un aliado poderoso.

In short Magi is an anime worth watching, as I indicated at the beginning its plot is quite deep, each character is very well developed, even those who are not main characters have a good development and participation. I have to be honest, it surprised me after surpassing the first impression it gave me, I even thought it was something for children but no, it is a story for mature minds, the themes are strong and very real, human ambitions are part of the main course but justice stands above all, without a doubt I highly recommend it so if you haven't seen it prepare the popcorn, the Coca-Cola and sit down to enjoy.

En definitiva Magi es un anime que vale la pena observar, como indique al inicio su trama es bastante profunda, cada personaje está muy bien desarrollado, incluso los que no son principales tienen un buen desarrollo y participación. Tengo que ser honesto, me sorprendió luego de sobrepasar la primera impresión que me dio, incluso llegue a pensar que era algo para niños pero no, es una historia para mentes maduras, los temas son fuertes y muy reales, las ambiciones humanas son parte del plato principal pero la justicia se erige por encima de todo, sin dudas lo recomiendo ampliamente así que si no lo has visto prepara las palomitas, la Coca-Cola y siéntate a disfrutar.
