It's always good to see Julia Roberts even if it's in this kind of movies [ENG/ESP]

Julia Roberts is one of the best actresses in show business, that's something we can't deny. Her film career, her career as such has been very successful and she always gives us good performances, performances that make it worth seeing her in every movie where she participates. "Leave the World Behind" is her most recent participation, and in this film she plays a mature woman and mother named Amanda.

Amanda is married to Clay, played by another excellent actor such as Ethan Hawke, their life is nothing special, they represent a normal family with children - in this case two - and lead their lives as any busy family in the United States of America. As soon as the film starts, you can understand this context, which sets the stage for the following events, which I think are fantastic. What father of a family wouldn't like his wife to organize a sudden vacation? I would honestly love it.

And that is precisely what Amanda does, why do I tell you this? Because I was struck by that detail and if we think about it, once we finish watching the movie of course, Amanda is the typical mature woman of today, self-sufficient, self-confident and sadly the one in charge of her home. Although Clay is who he should be, his character doesn't focus on that. He is the typical carefree man who shows no initiative unless there is a benefit for himself, otherwise his life is just work and routine.

Despite the above comment I want to emphasize that the film is not about that but you can appreciate the weakness in the roles of both of them. The film is apocalyptic, and if you have seen this kind of movies you will be able to understand many events that happen in the story, however as the plot progresses we could say that it is an "end of the world thriller" to call it somehow.

Julia Roberts es una de las mejores actrices del mundo del espectáculo, eso es algo que no podemos negar. Su trayectoria cinematográfica, su carrera como tal ha sido muy exitosa y siempre nos regala interpretaciones de buen nivel, interpretaciones que hacen que valga la pena verla en cada película donde participe. “Leave the World Behind” es su más reciente participación, y en este film interpreta a una mujer madura y madre de familia llamada Amanda.

Amanda está casada con Clay, interpretado por otro excelente actor como lo es Ethan Hawke, la vida de ambos no tiene nada de especial, representan una familia normal con hijos - en este caso dos – y llevan su vida como cualquier familia ocupada de los Estados Unidos de América. Nada más iniciar el film se puede entender este contexto, lo cual da pie para los siguientes eventos, que a mi parecer me parecen fantásticos. ¿A qué padre de familia no le va a gustar que su esposa organice unas vacaciones repentinas? A mí me encantaría honestamente.

Y eso es precisamente lo que hace Amanda, ¿Por qué cuento esto? Porque me llamo la atención ese detalle y si nos ponemos a pensar, una vez terminemos de ver la película claro está, Amanda es la típica mujer madura actual, autosuficiente, segura de sí misma y tristemente quien lleva las riendas en su hogar. A pesar de que Clay es quien debería serlo, su personaje no se enfoca en eso. Es el típico hombre despreocupado que no muestra ninguna iniciativa a menos que haya un beneficio para sí mismo, de lo contrario su vida es solo trabajo y rutina.

A pesar del comentario anterior quiero enfatizar que la película no trata de eso pero se puede apreciar la debilidad en los roles de ambos. El film es apocalíptico, y si has visto este tipo de películas podrás comprender muchos eventos que ocurren en la historia, sin embargo a medida que avanza la trama podríamos decir que es un “thriller de fin de mundo” por llamarlo de alguna manera.

Good actors bring movies to life / Los buenos actores dan vida a las películas

I've seen many installments with good plots where the actors don't help much, it's also been the opposite extreme, and I think this film falls into that category. The story is no big deal, in fact it has a bland ending, I'll make that clear so you won't be disappointed once you see it, but the actors who act validated by the redundancy in it make the film entertaining.

It's not only Julia and Ethan, we also have the participation of Mahershala Ali, who plays George, a mysterious man - like many of his roles - who happens to be the owner of the house where the protagonist family is staying. His character is very striking, a wealthy man who has been involved in the highest sphere of society, he has even been in contact with the elite who rule the world, something like Illuminati, so his participation is extremely interesting, besides being interpreted in a masterful way.

In addition to that there is also Kevin Bacon, another good actor. Each of them and the rest of those who appear -which are few- give a touch of quality to the production, although if I am honest with other actors, perhaps it would have been fatal. The context is interesting, the effects are interesting, the atmosphere is interesting, but the denouement is awful in my personal opinion, although being an apocalyptic film is not much to expect, even so I think the ending was very weak, in fact I did not like it and I felt I wasted my time because you can not finish a good work that way, there I think there was a lot of mistake.

He visto muchas entregas con buenas tramas donde los actores no ayudan mucho, también ha sido el extremo contrario, y pienso que este film entra en esa categoría. La historia no es la gran cosa, de hecho tiene un final insípido, te lo aclaro para que no te decepciones una vez la veas, pero los actores que actúan valga la redundancia en ella hacen que el film sea entretenido.

No solo es Julia y Ethan, también contamos con la participación de Mahershala Ali, quien encarna a George, un hombre misterioso – como muchos de sus papeles – que resulta ser el dueño de la casa donde se hospeda la familia protagonista. Su personaje es muy llamativo, un hombre adinerado que se ha involucrado en la esfera más alta de la sociedad, incluso ha estado en contacto con las elite que gobiernan el mundo, algo tipo Illuminati, por lo que su participación es sumamente interesante, además de ser interpretada de una forma magistral.

Sumado a eso también esta Kevin Bacon, otro buen actor. Cada uno de ellos y el resto de los que aparecen - que son pocos – dan un toque de calidad a la producción, aunque si soy honesto con otros actores quizás habría sido fatal. El contexto es interesante, los efectos también, el ambiente ni se diga, pero el desenlace espantoso a mi juicio personal, aunque al ser una película apocalíptica no es mucho lo que se pueda esperar, aun así pienso que fue muy flojo el final, de hecho no me gusto y sentí que perdí mi tiempo porque no se puede terminar una buena obra de esa manera, allí pienso que hubo mucho desacierto.

Speculation will always be a tool that can attract viewers in this case or drive them away, that will always be so, and when a movie leaves you with an ending to speculate or in suspense sadly loses its charm. I'm one of those who when watching a movie is pending the remaining time, I don't know why I do that but it's always like that, maybe to imagine the outcome or hope for something better at the end. While watching this production I did the same thing and I was getting stressed out before I finished watching it because I didn't see the best thing happening or things being resolved, and evidently the movie was ending so...yes, the fateful moment came and everything ended, period, no continuation haha. But in my opinion it was left at the best part, and a lot could have been developed from there, however it was not what the production did in this case.

I conclude by saying that it is a good film in spite of everything, its plot and development are interesting, my only complaint as a viewer I have already expressed, but at the end of the day it is my particular opinion, maybe you can see it and have another opinion about it, which I would like to read without a doubt, so if you haven't seen it don't stay with the intrigue and run to see it, then write me your opinion in the comments.

La especulación siempre será una herramienta que puede atraer televidentes en este caso o alejarlos, eso siempre será así, y cuando una película te deja un final para especular o en suspenso tristemente pierde su encanto. Soy de los que cuando ve una película está pendiente del tiempo restante, no sé porque razón hago eso pero siempre es así, quizás para imaginarme el desenlace o esperar algo mejor al final. Mientras veía esta producción hice lo mismo y me estaba estresando antes de terminar de verla porque no veía que lo mejor estuviese ocurriendo o se resolviesen las cosas, y evidentemente la película estaba terminando así que…si, llego el fatídico momento y todo termino, punto y final, sin continuación jaja. Pero a mi parecer quedo en la mejor parte, y se podría haber desarrollado mucho desde allí, sin embargo no fue lo que la producción hizo en este caso.

Concluyo diciendo que es un buen film a pesar de todo, su trama y desarrollo son interesantes, mi única queja como espectador ya la he expresado, pero al final de cuentas es mi opinión particular, quizás puedas verla y tener otra opinión al respecto, lo cual me gustaría leer sin duda, así que si no la has visto no te quedes con la intriga y corre a verla, después me escribes tu opinión en los comentarios.
