If you were transporting a virus of mass destruction, would you deliver it or destroy it? [ENG/ESP]

The question of the title makes us think without a doubt, but in the mind of a soldier we know what the answer is or at least it seems so...Black crab is a very interesting film, awarded with several prizes for its quality and narrative, it takes us to an apocalyptic world devastated by a war that has left the surviving population in chaos and ruin.

However, nothing is over, much less in the mind of the protagonist, the beautiful Swedish actress Noomi Rapace who plays the soldier Caroline Edh, a very capable woman who suffers the abduction of her daughter because they were separated some time ago. As the story unfolds, we see flashbacks to the story, which keeps us abreast of the motivation and relentless pursuit of this woman.

This Swedish film follows in the vein of some Norwegian films in that it quickly gets us to the heart of the matter, which is appreciated in many films. It barely starts we can tell what it's about with only 20 minutes of viewing, but it has a way of hooking the viewer by combining drama and quite a bit of action.

The apocalyptic theme in movies, animations or any kind of production has to be well captured, it is important because the environment has a lot of weight in this kind of stories, and director Adam Berg did extraordinarily well in taking care of this aspect. We can see a very depleted population, without resources and doing whatever it takes to survive, even attacking soldiers. Those kinds of details well taken care of definitely add a lot to the quality of films of this type.

La interrogante del título nos lleva a pensar sin duda, pero en la mente de un soldado sabemos cuál es la respuesta o por lo menos eso parece…Black crab es una película bastante interesante, galardonada con varios premios por su calidad y narrativa, nos traslada a un mundo apocalíptico y devastado por una guerra que ha dejado a la población sobreviviente en caos y ruina.

Sin embargo nada ha terminado, y mucho menos en la mente de la protagonista, la bella actriz sueca Noomi Rapace quien interpreta a la soldado Caroline Edh, una mujer muy capaz que sufre el rapto de su hija debido a que las separaron tiempo atrás. A medida que se desarrolla la historia podremos ver ciertos flashback al respecto, lo cual nos mantiene al tanto de la motivación y la búsqueda implacable de esta mujer.

Este film sueco sigue la tónica de algunos films noruegos en el sentido de que rápidamente nos llevan al centro del asunto, lo cual se agradece en muchas películas. Apenas inicia podemos saber de qué trata con tan solo 20 minutos de visualización, pero tiene una forma de enganchar al espectador combinando drama y bastante acción.

El tema apocalíptico en las películas, animaciones o cualquier tipo de producción tiene que ser bien captado, es importante porque el ambiente tiene mucho peso en este tipo de historias, y el director Adam Berg lo hizo extraordinariamente bien al cuidar este aspecto. Podemos ver una población muy mermada, sin recursos y haciendo lo que sea para sobrevivir, incluso atacar soldados. Ese tipo de detalles bien cuidados definitivamente aportan mucho a la calidad de las películas de este tipo.

The core of the story / El meollo de la historia

The theme of war can be worked and approached in many ways, in this case we were taken to a secret mission of 6 people in order to make an important move that can ensure victory to such a bloody battle. You imagine being part of the platoon that can end the war, it would be something very exciting, however everything starts to fall apart as they advance in the mission.

The detail is that there are very few trained soldiers, and the transfer takes place through a frozen sea on ice skates, that definitely changes the conditions, but at the same time gives a greater suspense. None of the 6 soldiers know each other, they just have to carry out the mission no matter what may happen and who they leave behind. Under this scenario most of the plot unfolds, and along the way you can appreciate very well crafted scenes and spectacular camera shots.

The direction created a very good drama in this part of the story, so much so that it is impossible not to get attached to each of the characters due to the individuality they present, which together gives us an excellent harmony. Following the story I want to highlight the theme of the virus, initially the soldiers did not know what they were carrying, they were only told that they had to cross the frozen sea and take the capsules to the base located in the capital.

El tema de la guerra se puede trabajar y enfocar de muchas maneras, en este caso nos llevaron a una misión secreta de 6 personas con la finalidad de hacer un movimiento importante que pueda garantizar la victoria a tan cruenta batalla. Te imaginas ser parte del pelotón que puede acabar con la guerra, sería algo muy emocionante, sin embargo todo comienza a desmoronarse a medida que avanzan en la misión.

El detalle es que hay muy pocos soldados capacitados, y el traslado se lleva a cabo por un mar congelado en patines sobre hielo, eso definitivamente cambia las condiciones, pero a su vez da un mayor suspenso. Ninguno de los 6 soldados se conoce, solo deben llevar a cabo la misión sin importar lo que pueda suceder y a quien dejen atrás. Bajo este panorama se desarrolla la mayor parte de la trama, y en ese trayecto se pueden apreciar escenas muy bien trabajadas y tomas de cámara espectaculares.

La dirección creo un drama bastante bueno en esta parte de la historia, tanto así que es imposible no encariñarse con cada uno de los personajes debido a la individualidad que presentan, la cual en conjunto nos da una excelente armonía. Siguiendo la historia quiero resaltar el tema del virus, inicialmente los soldados no sabían que transportaban, solo se les dijo que debían atravesar el mar congelado y llevar las capsulas hacia la base ubicada en la capital.

Everything goes on as normal but when things start to get difficult the uncertainty arises as to whether it is worth the risk, which I think is legitimate even for those who are trained to follow orders without question. Which is why at some point in the story in desperation they decide to open one of the capsules and to their surprise they notice the deadly virus it contains. Evidently that would lead them to win the war but at too high a cost with a stained conscience.

This is the most important point of the plot and this is where the author wants to get all of us viewers to think, what would we do in such a situation? What would you do knowing that you would participate in a global destruction that includes innocent people? It is definitely a situation to ponder, and I like how it is approached in this story. Each of the soldiers has their own thoughts and based on them they act from here on out.

Obviously I won't say what happened because it would damage the emotion of the film but all I can say is that every decision is respectable, and everything that happens at the end and how the story ends can be evaluated under the moral criteria of anyone who sees the film. In my opinion it had a satisfactory ending, and with that I can conclude that there was not a waste of time to invest 115 minutes that lasts the film. I hope you can watch it and argue about it, I would like to read your comments and impressions.

Todo transcurre de forma normal pero cuando las cosas comienzan a ponerse difíciles surge la incertidumbre si vale la pena el riesgo, lo cual pienso que es algo legitimo aun para aquellos que están entrenados a cumplir las órdenes sin cuestionar. Razón por la cual en algún momento de la historia ante la desesperación deciden abrir una de las cápsulas y para su sorpresa notan el virus mortal que contiene. Evidentemente eso los llevaría a ganar la guerra pero a un costo demasiado alto con una conciencia manchada.

Este es el punto más importante de la trama y aquí es donde el autor nos quiere llevar a pensar a todos los espectadores, ¿Qué haríamos en tal situación? ¿Qué harías tú sabiendo que participaras en una destrucción global que incluye personas inocentes? Es definitivamente una situación para meditar, y me gusta como es enfocado en esta historia. Cada uno de los soldados tiene su propio pensamiento y en base a ellos actúan de aquí en adelante.

Evidentemente no diré que pasara porque dañaría la emoción del film pero lo único que puedo decir es que cada de3cision es respetable, y todo lo que ocurre al final y como se termina de desarrollar la historia puede ser evaluado bajo el criterio moral de cualquiera que vea la película. A mi parecer tuvo un final satisfactorio, y con eso puedo concluir que no hubo una pérdida de tiempo al invertir 115 minutos que dura la película.
