Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashura: A Bad to the Core Crossover [ENG/ESP]

When I heard about this crossover I was very little encouraged, as it is a way to literally cross two or more different productions into one. I have never liked them, because elements of the original work are always lost.

In this case it was no exception, and being the director Toshiki Hirano who was in charge of the production, the less I called my attention, although he has his trajectory and recognized works in the world of anime, the fact that he is the creator of Baki Hanma gave me a clear idea of how this adaptation would be.

If I had to rate it from 1 to 10 I would give it a 4 at best, just because it kept a good animation and the original language was the same of both sagas.

As for the fights, there is not much to highlight, only 3 fights, and really very poorly developed, in the purest Baki style, no techniques, only brutality, a characteristic element of the original series that is not very appreciable.

In Kengan Ashura you can appreciate the beauty of the martial art, but in this series there is nothing of that, only blows from one side to the other, Broly's movie style in Dragon ball super, only bursts of powers without stopping.

I definitely can't understand this kind of productions, they spend a high budget, literally, only to generate a low quality product, although for the audience they are aiming at maybe it has been a success, but in my case I expected much more, because they have material to develop something better.

The only thing I can argue in favor are the character designs, they spared no expense to keep them as they are, I applaud that because you can not lose the visual quality. Another point in favor as I indicated at the beginning is the audio of the characters, completely original, just like in their series.

The context of the film is a martial arts tournament between the two organizations, to decide which is the best of the two, but not all the fighters participate, but only a few chosen, the criteria is not shown, nor are the strongest, at least on the side of Kengan, but quite competitive.

I think that a Tekken-style miniseries of a few chapters would have been better, but in the end it was the director's idea. Of course, the foundations for continuity have been laid, so it's not surprising that they will continue to venture into this story with other types of fights between the two organizations.

Lastly, if you like Baki Hanma you can watch it at your leisure, but if you're expecting it to be like Kengan Ashura, I don't recommend it at all.

Thanks for reading

Very honest and on point review. I've never liked Baki Hanma so I thought Kengan Ashura is no different. I've seen clips of them though, and I really thought Kengan Ashura is still Baki since the drawing is similar. Maybe they focused too much on how Baki was loved by many, the fight scenes and all that that they've forgotten other aspects.

Dude, Kengan is a marvel, you can't compare him with Baki, although the drawings are very similar, they have their notable differences, especially in the features.

I understand that you don't like Baki, it's really bad, but you should give Kengan a chance, it's very appreciable in all its context.

I've been hesitating whether to watch this but I see it's not that worthwhile. It's a shame because I watched Kengan Ashura and I really liked it, the story is good, some comedy and the fights were a spectacle but I see that they damaged something that could be very top.

Thank you for the honest opinion hahaha

Cheers bro!

I couldn't keep quiet hahaha.

Kengan Ashura is pretty good, appreciable, but Baki is quite the opposite, and of course, being the creator of Baki the director of this movie you can't expect better.

Maybe later on we will see the second part of Kengan animated, that one, I hope, will be worth it.

Regards
