The Edge of Tomorrow

I've been wanting to write about this for so long because it's one of my all time favourite films. I'm a stickler for movies and films that involve an element of time travel. And whilst this isn't conventional time travel it certainly involves rewinding the day back to the start of it. The start of an alien invasion.

You see, humanity is being invaded by aliens, and no matter what happens they seem to contemplate our very next move all the time. No mater what humanity does there's always a counteroffensive ready and waiting.

Major William Cage (tom cruise) is a reporter within the army. He reports on the internal goings on, and whips up hope for the public. A bit like propaganda for the army. Anyway, the ranking general orders cage to be sent to the front lines to video the counter offensive.

Scared of what might happen, cage then tries to blackmail the General to which he is arrested and wakes up in the army front lines as a fresh recruit infantry. No-one believes what happened to him, and the orders are that they keep him restrained and ready to battle when the time comes. He has no training and is not battle ready in the slightest.

The General essentially sent him to die.

The following day arrives and everyone is getting ready for battle, and you can tell that cage hasn't got a clue what to do or how to do it. He is confused and very, very scared. They are all laughing at his fear when he cannot work his suit (there are even jokes about cheap suits made from China in there).

As the battle ensues, it turns out that the alien defensive is right there ready and waiting for them. It is strange (and scary) to everyone because no-one has any idea how the aliens would know that they were coming.

The alien defensive is too strong, and cage sadly ends getting killed in battle as this big alien monster comes to fight him, and both of them kill each other. The blood from the alien burning off Cage's skin and body as it seems that the alien's blood is corrosive.

The next thing we know is that Cage wakes up the previous day before all healthy and in tact, what happened seemed to be a nightmare, but he isn't too sure. And to make things worse the day is turning out exactly the way he had dreamed it did. Was this a premonition?

No, it turns out that the blood that he got burned with when he killed the Alien was linked to something that can reset time and travel back. So Cage is now replaying the same day over and over and over again.

At first he struggles with this, knowing that everyone is going to die and there's nothing that he can do about it, but then he meets a lovely women that is essentially the face of the war, and it turns out that she has had the same thing happen to her also, and they both use it to gain an edge over what's happening.

I've said enough for now. That's just the start. Lots more stuff in there, but it's definitely worth a good watch. I enjoyed every minute of it. If you're a fan of Cruise (which I am), or even emily blunt, (which I am again a fan), then I suggest this one is right up your alley.
