Mr Deeds
"Sneaky sneaky"
Ah, when the small town meets the big town. This is quite the film, and one that shows the difference between small town people and big town people.
Mr Deeds is one of my favourite films because I've lived in both the city and in a village before and I completely understand the contrast of culture and what this film is trying to convey. And it's an Adam Sandler one, so you know it's going to have lots of funnies in it.
We start off with Longfellow Deeds, a young country man who delivers Pizza to nice old ladies, writes greeting cards, and generally tries to add happiness to the town he lives in.
Unbeknownst to him, his mega-rich uncle tries to climb mount Everest and as he is doing so a heavy weather front comes along which discourages all climbers but him, and later that day he is found iced to the peak, dead, killed for trying to be the best at everything.
Sadly his Uncle dies without a wife or an air to his fortune, through his time on earth he amassed a whopping 40 Billion dollars, and Longfellow is now the sole inheritor of that fortune. So his company sets off picking him up and bringing him back to the city so they can show his face and sent him packing with the money.
They want him out of course, because the vice president wants to make a lot of money and profiteer from the ex CEO's death. If he sells everything off he stands to make a LOT of money in the process, but only one thing stands in his way -- Longfellow. So he wants to give him his money and send him off on his way none the wiser.
Of course Longfellow isn't the typical half brained dimwit from the country, no, he has a brain and insight, and he of course tries to get involved with the dealings of the company. Of course good old Chuck Cedar doesn't like this, and tries to falter him at every turn. But there's not much he can do because Deeds currently holds all the cards.
That's where Babe Bennet comes in and swoops Deeds off his feet. A match made in heaven. She's kind and nice, and all the things you would want in a woman, but one thing. She's an undercover reporter for the local rag Inside Access where they give you all the lowdown on the celebrities, to which through Babe's crafty hidden camera and secret reporting, earns Longfellow a bad rep.
But, through everything, Babe actually grows to like Deeds and eventually begins to stop reporting on him, because he's actually a super nice guy, and she wants to date him in real life. This is when a plan is hatched by the owner of Inside Access and Chuck Cedar, and our story takes an eventful turn.
I'll not spoil it for you, but this is one of my favourite all time films. If you haven't seen it I advise you watch it.
