This one is an oldie but a goodie. I can remember going to see this at the cinema with my Auntie. I remember not wanting to see it because there was a children's film on in the other room, and I can remember stomping and stamping my feet because I didn't want to see the rubbish adult film.

But I was made to see it, and enjoy it very much I did. I didn't know it was a sci fi film until I finally sat down, hands crossed, in the huff and watching it. I can remember it very well because when the miniature man was injected into Jack Putter (Martin Short), all hell started to break loose. To say that I found this funny was an understatement.

As a person that has (previously) heard voices; yes, I was one of them people with mental health problems that was a voice hearer, and what Jack was going through was not dissimilar to what I went through. I look back on this with even fonder memories as now I can (sort of) relate to what he was going through, even although his was real and mine was a figment of my imagination.

I miss this you know. I'm going to take a moment to reminisce in how very open and exploratory movies were in the 80's and 90's. There were no overt messaging telling us how we're bad for being born the way were are, or anything telling us that we're not bad people for not helping others, just outright exploring new ideas and concepts. People weren't afraid to take the risk.

And that's all it is these days. Afraid of the risk. I used to think that movies and media were against us, but I think they are only following the money. Money is all that matters.

Anyhoo, as I was saying, this was a nice blend of sci fi, love, anger, jealousy, and the age old question - money. It's got everything in here. Who could believe that you could do a sci fi film whilst keeping the modern world intact and the populous unaware.

Usually it's mass hysteria and craziness when we are on earth and it's in modern day. Think Terminator and Independence Day. Some that I'll talk about later but it's worth noting that this film did sci fi without mass fear or panic. Just the people, "In the know." Something quite uncommon back then, and today if you think about it.

It's also a nice blend of where the cool kid meets the dorky kid and they both learn something from each other at the end of it. You see, both Jack and Tuck (Dennis Quaid) had something to learn from each other. Jack needs to learn to get out more and have fun, whereas Tuck needs to learn to be more compassionate to his partner -- both have unique stories and it's quite interesting watching it unfold and both of them grow from the experience.

It's one of my all time greats from the 80's, even if I was a kid watching it, it's definitely family friendly and fun to watch!
