Christmas was so much more fun as a child

Yeah, I'll admit, Christmas is for the children. Because us adults are running around like crazy headless chickens. Did you know that I don't even know if there was a Christmas movie that aired this year? There usually is, but sadly I missed it because I've spent the last three weeks making sure that everything is in ship shape.

And don't even get me started on New Years. I'm Scottish so bringing in the New Year is a big thing for me, or at least it used to be before I moved to England and found out it's not as much of a deal down this way as it was back up my way.

That's why I kind of sympathise with Kevin's Mother in Home Alone. In a sort of weird way. She's running around a house with god knows how many kids and bam. She leaves him alone whilst they all jet off. Probably not the greatest idea to go on a last minute Christmas holiday with a whole farm.

Yeah, those were back in the day where large families were still relatively common. I had several friends that I grew up with where they were at least one in seven, and I can guess they can relate more than I could. I was the only child, as is my son too.

Anyway.

I remember watching this when I was not much older than the star in this one. I also remember thinking he was a fricken genius, which spurred me setting up traps all over the house for my grandparents and my mother; to which they weren't best pleased at ALL.

But watching it back now it's weird seeing how completely young everyone looks, and how immature their acting is. That's not how I saw it as a young 8 year old. Kevin's bigger scarier brother looked as if he could snap two planks of wood with his bare hands, and the rest looked old and very annoying to be around.

That being said, as an Adult, and a dad myself now they just seem like kids. Goods kids as well with the way they have been presented to camera. Not a ragtag bunch of tearaways like some have been.

It's also funny how weight has changed too. Those that I remember as quite fat are actually looking a normal weight now. That might have been to do that I'm looking like a blimp in speedos at the moment.

Definitely one of my favourite films for the kids. I've yet to watch it all the way through but I'm sure there are lots of jokes for the adults too in there for blissfully unawares children that want to watch it too.

Let's also shout out to Joe Pesci in this one as well. You can tell what an A list celebrity he is when he can play a serious role in the Goodfellas, and then dial it back to lukewarm with his comically stupid cat burglar role in this film.

I try to avoid giving away plotlines for people that haven't seen it yet, and be warned, it definitely is a movie for the kids due to the silliness, but I try and stay away from revealing anything solid - so apologies if I've talked a lot without saying much haha!

But definitely go watch it if you're into a bit of slapstick humour from the late 80s!

Yeah! Christmas 🎄 was more to me than my children because then we didn't need to have to much to be happy 🙂.

Oh this is actually so true. I remember those days!

I read an article where they compared prices while the actor bought food compared to today to indicate the change of inflation.. :D

avatar

Oh man, inflation has went totally wild over the last 20 years!

I haven't watched this movie at all, but from the title, it feels so much attracting. The title makes me remember my days as a kid.

Go for it. I didn't actually reveal much haha.

Yeah, I sure will do that.. But it's actually nice you didn't do too much so it will entice me to check it out.
