Busting Ghosts & $GIFU Giveaway!

I have a friend who insists that every movie after 2016 is trash. While I’m still trying to check the validity of that statement, I do agree that we have lost something vital in film production across most genres from around 2018, or so. Nevertheless, there are still some movies detested by most within the golden era of the 2000s till 2016 that I genuinely loved. One of those movies, I will be talking about today.

Ghostbusters (2016)

Wouldn’t be going too deep into the plot summary but I’ll try to give you a general overview of the storyline. Abby Yates and Erin Gilberts co-authored a book since they were high schoolers that detailed their paranormal investigations. Now, Physicists and estranged friends, Erin is a professor at Columbia while Abby still does paranormal research at an institute of science in New York City with her partner, Jillian Holtzmann. After all three of them get fired from their respective institutions, they steal equipment, set up headquarters at a Hong Kong food store, and hire Kevin as their receptionist. From there on, are loads of research, fun, and of course, busting ghosts.

This film is the third in the Ghostbusters franchise. I remember seeing the very first, which was released in 1984, I think. After watching this third installment, I knew that anyone comparing it would take the latter as a very bad joke, as compared to the rather serious-themed former or even the second installment released in 1989. I checked the IMDB ratings of the Ghostbusters of 2016 and was genuinely shocked to see the ratings as low as 2.5/5.

I mean I knew it mostly undermined the efforts of the previous films but the ratings still felt far too low. So, I did some research and found out that the disgruntlement came from 2015 when it was found out that the cast would be female-led. This brought the ratings way down to the ground even before the film was released.

Now I’m not quite sure if my defense of this movie stems from the fact that I was in a good place then and had genuinely good laughs, but I still think it’s the type not to take too seriously if you want to enjoy it, especially if you’ve seen the first and second films in the franchise. I think it was more comedy than actual ghost-busting which you can guess even from the trailer, but probably shouldn’t be dismissed completely. Either way, hope you enjoy!

I found this movie hilarious at the time of watching, so I don't know what that rating is. Sometimes movies get poor ratings for people's beliefs rather than the actual quality of the movie.

As for the gifu giveaway. Will try my best and see if I can be lucky

I loved the original Ghost Busters. I kind of feel like your friend does about movies after 2016. But my thing is sequels, I hate when they make a sequel to a movie. It's never as good as the original. The only exception i've ever found was Clerks 2.. and that's because I saw it first..

Honestly the remake just seemed to lend too much on the original but it was an ok film none the less

Honestly, I always felt that having a female-led cast brought a fresh perspective to the franchise. Your review made it even clearer.

I appreciate your take on Ghostbusters. It’s true that the film focuses more on comedy and has a different vibe than the originals. The backlash over the female-led cast was unfortunate and overshadowed its enjoyment factor.
As for the GIFU giveaway, I’m excited to join in and engage with the community. Let’s make it fun!

I don't think the movie industry has lost anything. I also had those thoughts sometime ago but after intentionally creating time for movies I discover there are so many great movies with limited noise.

On the giveaway, nice initiative 🤗🤗🤗 I delegated some Hp to @brofi as suggested in your post.
