"The Princess Diaries" by Garry Marshall: A pretty girl turns into a gorgeous princess

Intro

Movies about princesses, princes, and kingdoms are some of my favorites so I tried looking for a movie to watch but couldn't find any that fit my mood again my husband came to the rescue by suggesting "The Princess Diaries". He said I have been stressed enough in our daily life so he suggested that I watch a movie that will not make me stressed. He said that "The Princess Diaries" is a comedy and that I was going to like it so I watched it.

Narrative

The narrative of "The Princess Diaries" is about the life of a normal student who doesn't know her true identity (her mother is planning to tell her the truth when she reaches eighteen but unfortunately things change and it is revealed to her that she is a princess at a tender age of fifteen). The Princess Diaries is a narration-movie that will make you laugh and love the character of Mia the one and only heir to the throne of a country called Genovia.

Thoughts

I love surprises in movies it makes me interested in it and it makes me continue watching. So, a scene that I was not expecting caught me by surprise but apparently, Mia is just imagining that she is kissing a boy whom she had a crush on (see image below). I thought it was true but then the next scene made me realize that Mia is just imagining.

I knew Anne Hathaway but in this movie, I got to see her in her teens. When The Princess Diaries was released in 2001 she was eighteen and turning nineteen in a couple of months. Her being a girl with curly hair in this movie makes her pretty (see image below) which makes me want to try to curl my hair if it makes me pretty.

I knew that this movie was a comedy but I am again surprised that there is a scene where she is thudding her teeth which I find cute and unique I am glad that it makes me want to continue watching (because sometimes I stop watching simply because I lost interest in it even if it is at the half-way.

Mia's clumsiness made me laugh when she accidentally hit the head of her P.E. instructor with a baseball (see image below).

When her grandmother "The Queen" told her that she was a princess she was surprised and she uttered, "Shut up!" which is slang when someone is surprised. Using the slang is actually not a surprise to me since I have seen a lot of movies using the slang but seeing Mia say it is a plus for the movie.

The only thing that I noticed when it was revealed to Mia that she is a princess is that the scene should have been more intense but since the movie is portraying a fifteen-year-old high school student it is understandable if she received the news with much more intensity.

The lack of intensity was patched up by the scene when Mia blew and flicked her hair which is obstructing her vision. This scene is brilliant because I have experienced it before when I am into something that is intense like I am having a hard time doing my school project.

Another scene that made me smile is when Mia is making funny faces (see image below) while her grandmother is explaining something. And the scene when she moved her nose is quite funny. Mia moving her nose makes me wonder if it is one of the requirements for the movie.

Mia showing her dance moves (see image below) with her chauffeur is one of the funniest scenes of the movie. Imagine, the choreographer of the movie did a job well in choreographing the dance. It is very clever because it made me smile. Whenever I smile or react to a scene positively it only means that the scene is very effective.

I am expecting that later in the movie she will have a transformation and when it finally comes the transformation is very dramatic so it is a job well done that the transformation was very dramatic as Mia's beauty came out with just changing her hairstyle.

Mia staring herself the at the mirror is one of the most fascinating scenes of the movie scene it make me appreciate her beauty as she went from a simple and pretty girl to a very gorgeous lady (see image below).

The idea of her running away so that she will escape being a princess is one of the most thrilling scenes of the movie. I never imagined that she is going to run away because the previous scene led me to believe that she is just going to stay at her home and do nothing until the ball is finished and then later on she will be accepting her title as a princess but it didn't instead she tried to run away and the idea of her car breaking down is a great idea for the script.

I also thought that she would accept her title fully dressed but it didn't happen instead, she accepted her title as a princess in a wet sweater and pants and then the movie proceeded to dress her like a princess which made Mia very beautiful.

Conclusion

The Princess Diaries is one of the best comedies that I have seen. Anne Hathaway's character is very light and the comedy scene is exactly what I like and what I am looking for. This movie perfectly shows a good teenager but clumsy once in a while. The movie portrayed the clumsiness of Mia very well the comedy scenes look very natural except after she threw the baseball on the head of her instructor, aside from that the movie is great in its entirety.

I say that Anne Hathaway perfectly fits as a princess and her mother is also perfect as a Queen.
