"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" by Mike Newell: The Return of Lord Voldemort

Introduction

After three films the Harry Potter franchise is still great with all three previous films having their own unique plots and narratives this fourth "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" never disappoints as there are still a lot of amazing surprises the film has to offer. All three previous films and this fourth iteration kept me on the edge of my seat.

The Film's Narrative

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire's narrative is about the thrilling and uneventful experiences of Harry Potter and his friends that started with the Goblet of Fire's choosing Harry Potter as one of the "Champions" that will compete in the Triwizard competition hosted by Hogwarts.

Thoughts

Just like the first three films Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire never ceases or runs out of amazing surprises. First, is when Harry Potter and Company traveled to Hogwarts by way of Portkey boots that are located on top of a mountain. Second is when Sirius Black tries to contact Harry Potter using the fireplace (see image below). I think the fireplace scene where Sirius Black used the glowing fire to talk with Harry is by far the most unique scene by far from the three previous films. This surprise never came into my mind that would be how Sirius Black was going to talk to Harry Potter.

The first task of Harry Potter (getting a dragon egg) is exhilarating. The scene and pulse-pounding and will keep you on the edge of your seat. During the scene where Harry Potter is being chased by the dragon, I cannot discern what will happen next. And indeed, without me discerning the scene I ended up very impressed until Harry Potter was able to get the egg without very serious injury.

This film also shows the power of friendship when Ron Weasley and Harry Potter finally reconciled. Ron and Harry have a misunderstanding when Ron thinks that Harry cheated to become the fourth Champion to compete in the Triwizard competition.

There is also a cheesy twist when Hagrid seems to be having a close relationship with one of the visitors (from Beauxbatons).

Then there's the scene that puts a sweet smile on my face, it is when Ron Weasley is asked by Minerva McGonagall to dance (to show how a dance will be on Christmas Eve).

Another scene that puts a smile on my face is when one of the twins asks a girl to come with him to the ball on Christmas Eve (see image below).

The mystery starts to kick in when Harry Potter accidentally sees a previous trial in which he saw the son of a high-ranking official in the Ministry of Magic taken into custody.

Then the event that every Harry Potter fan took by surprise is when Lord Voldemort finally came to life again and Harry Potter is helpless. I also did not expect that Lord Voldemort would come to life in this film I thought he would come back to life in the next movie. But I must say that this is the mother of all surprises which happened in just the fourth film. The appearance is certainly scary.

The moment that Lord Voldemort was back I thought Harry Potter would get a beating until he showed what he was capable of (Voldemort was not able to kill Harry Potter easily). But what I don't understand is why Voldemort allowed Harry Potter to duel him which backfired big time when the very people that Lord Voldermort killed showed as souls are aided Harry Potter to escape. Is it out of pride that Lord Voldemort wanted to show his Death Eater that he could kill Harry Potter easily? Maybe yes, but just as I said it, it backfired big time.

Another surprise from this film is near the end of the film. When Albus Dumbledore came to the rescue of Harry Potter. The scene makes me wonder how Albus Dumbledore was able to find out that Professor Moody is an impostor and that the real Professor Moody is just around the corner (in captivity).

The scenes in the maze make me wonder why the school had to organize such a contest even if they knew that the contest had claimed lives before. Also, the use of the cup as a Portkey is a brilliant idea to finally bring Lord Voldemort to life. Also, the revelation of Lucius Malfoy as a Death Eater is one of the most significant events in the film. And now that the stage is set when Lord Voldemort comes back I guess that the next film will be more exciting.

Conclusion

I thought "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" would only be going to be a great movie but it gave us something that made us very very excited, the return of Lord Voldemort. And now that the main enemy has finally come alive I think the next film will be more exciting than this one and the first three films.

In this film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire holds the most significant event which is of course the return of Lord Voldemort.

If you happen to be one of those who still don't watch Harry Potter I recommend that you watch it from the first film so that you can fully understand the story of Harry Potter. I am sure that you are not going to regret watching this film franchise because it is so good and you will be going to see some things that you haven't seen in a movie before.

After watching this film I am very excited to watch the next one, I am sure the thrill will be more than the first film given that Lord Voldemort has returned and he is going to pursue Harry Potter.
