"100 Days with Mr. Arrogant" by Shin Jai-ho Review: A Funny Romance Movie to Brigthen Up Your Day

Intro

Ha Ji-won is no doubt one of the most famous actresses of her generation (South Korea). Before I started to watch Korean movies I was already seeing some clips of her movies online. And then one day during the pandemic when there was nothing to do I started to watch more Korean movies and one of them "100 Days with Mr. Arrogant". Ironically, my husband knows Ha Ji-won too, and so we watched it together during the pandemic.

Narrative

The narrative of the movie is about the funny, sad, and exciting life of a high schooler named Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) and a college guy named Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon). The two met in an unexpected situation and then a series of unexpected events ensued for a hundred days.

Thoughts

I watched this movie without any expectations because I had not seen any of its trailers but right from the first scenes of Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) which is very funny and some are uniquely hilarious I immediately like it. This is actually the first time that I have seen a movie like "100 Days with Mr. Arrogant". It is unique, funny, and entertaining.

The acting of Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) is very girly and teeny as was shown in her scene when he was dumped by a younger boy whom she's been dating for 100 days. The acting of Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) is also what gets me to watch this movie and also because my husband told me about her acting prowess and how she is very popular as an actress in South Korea

The scene of the fateful meeting of Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) and Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) for the first time is funnily unique and interesting (see photo below, taken from the movie). The concept of kicking a can and hitting Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) is hilariously unique (which I think I have never seen before in any movie that I already watched).

Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) running away from Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) is hilarious. It is good that they fast-forward to the running scene of Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) away from Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon). I thought there would be another scene for Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) to catch Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) and make her pay for the damage to Hyung-Jun's (Kim Jaewon) car.

The scene when Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) woke up during class is so hilarious. The scene when Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) calls Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) and tells her that she should answer her telephone in a nice manner. And then she realized that he was looking at her while they were talking on their telephone. Apparently, their rooms were adjacent to each other as she saw him outside her window (see photo below, taken from the movie).

As she is being called by him to his house she must do something in order for her to skip classes so she sprayed something on her eyes and made them irritated. I actually did not expect that she was going to do such a thing just to be able to heed the call of her master.

Another hilarious scene in the movie is when Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) asks Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) to imitate Sailor Moon before she can enter the house of Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) as a female coming out of the elevating is visibly very surprised on Ha-Yeong imitating Sailor Moon.

As the movie progressed, I started to guess what would happen next but I was not able to guess the next scene. The shopping, the self-defense, and the tug of war of the two protagonists on who is going to give up on their agreement. Include also the scene when Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) goes public about their presumed baby and he leaves them.

Halfway into the movie, the surprise of all surprises came when a student taught her classmate a perfect way for self-defense by spitting in the face of the attacker.

As Ha-Yeong (Ha Ji-won) finally gets out of the grip of Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon), Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) makes a move by posing as a tutor so that he can get near her (which is also a surprise for me, and I actually never saw it coming).

And then came the sad part of the movie when he has to avoid her because her mother is very angry at him when she sees him kissing her daughter in a public place. The sad scenes are actually kind of very long for me and actually make me stressed as she is trying her best to keep him near her.

I thought there would never be any twist on the movie but I was wrong. As revealed at the end of the movie he actually made some important steps just to keep her. Then came the ending which I actually did not expect when a lot of lanterns lit up and then he showed up telling what he had done.

Conclusion

The movie may have a lot of side plots but they are still very significant and did not stray too far away from the main plot of the movie. If you are into South Korean movies and you know Ha Ji-won this movie is definitely for you. As a whole, the movie is great and the script will not make you bored and make you guess what will happen next. I can see that they are a cute couple. If you are into teeny acting which Ha Ji-won did great in impersonating a high schooler this is definitely a movie for you. Hyung-Jun (Kim Jaewon) is also great in his acting. His acting is exactly what I like for an arrogant character I just wished that they would have made him attend a class. This romance comedy has it all, it is funny, hilarious, dramatic, and very light. I say light because it does not make you very stressed on sad scenes.

I do recommend this movie, I am sure your teeny side will come out on this one.
