LOH Contest #203: Tres Películas de Terror para este fin de semana [ENG/ESP]
Hello to everyone in the Ladies of Hive community! Today I'm joining today to participate in the #203 contest, with this is my entry. I invite my dear friend, @aliciarodriguez, to participate. I'll leave the link to the contest at the end of the post. That said, let's get started with it as I'll be answering only the second question.
There is nothing I love more than watching movies, apart from the fact that I marathon to watch even more movies. So I'll take this opportunity to mention three of them which I was able to enjoy last weekend. I usually don't have much faith in new films, especially if they are in the horror genre, so it was a pleasant surprise to come across two of them that certainly made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Two of them (the first two) you will find on the Netflix platform and the other one is a bit harder to find but I was able to watch it on YouTube. It all depends on what country you're in. Here they go:

No hay nada que me guste más que ver películas, aparte del hecho de maratonear para ver aún más películas. Así que aprovecharé la ocasión para mencionar tres de ellas las cuales pude disfrutar el pasado fin de semana. Usualmente no tengo mucha fe en las nuevas películas, sobre todo si son del género de terror, por lo que fue una grata sorpresa encontrarme con dos de ellas que sin duda alguna me hicieron sentir un poco incómoda. Dos de ellas (las dos primeras) las encontrarán en la plataforma de Netflix y la otra, es un poco más difícil de encontrar pero yo la pude ver en YouTube. Todo depende del país en el que estés. Aquí van:
The Deliverance (2024) by Lee Daniels
Honestly, it caught my attention because it featured Glenn Close, who I hadn't seen on screen in a while. The story focuses on Ebony Jackson and her family, who have just moved into a house that doesn't seem to be in good condition. On top of that, Ebony is a single mother of three, she has a problem with alcohol, her job barely provides her with enough to get by and her mother has cancer. With all this, strange and violent events begin to occur at home that seem to be paranormal in nature. Based on a true story, the film is treated in a way that really generates interest thanks to its storytelling and performances. It's well worth your time.
The Deliverance (2024) de Lee Daniels
Sinceramente me llamó la atención porque contaba con la actuación de Glenn Close, a quién tenía tiempo sin ver en pantalla. La historia se centra en Ebony Jackson y su familia, los cuales se acaban de mudar a una casa que no parece estar en buenas condiciones. Sumado a eso, Ebony es madre soltera de tres niños, tiene problemas con el alcohol, su trabajo apenas le provee lo suficiente para subsistir y su madre tiene cáncer. Con todo esto comienzan a darse en casa ciertos sucesos extraños y violentos que parecen ser de tipo paranormal. Basado en una historia real, la película es tratada de una forma que realmente genera interés gracias a su narración y actuaciones. Vale la pena.
When Evil Lurks (2023) by Demián Rugna
Straight from Argentina. I had been looking for it for a long time until it finally arrived on Netflix. Pedro and Jimi are two brothers who live in the countryside and one morning discover traces of a person torn to pieces on the outskirts of their land. Curious about this discovery, the two brothers follow the clues that lead them to a neighbouring family's house. There they find "an incarnate", a kind of demon that possesses a person and brings to life the worst evil of all. Like a plague that spreads, the brothers must stop it at all costs. If you like Stephen King's "Children of the Corn", you'll like this film as it draws heavily from that and rural horror stories. Again, it is uncomfortable and painful to watch as children worship evil.
Cuando Acecha la Maldad (2023) de Demián Rugna
Directamente desde argentina. Llevaba un buen tiempo buscándola hasta que finalmente arribó a Netflix. Pedro y Jimi son dos hermanos que viven en el campo y una mañana descubren rastros de una persona despedazada en las afueras de su terreno. Curiosos por este hallazgo, los dos hermanos siguen las pistas que lo llevan a casa de una familia vecina. En ella encontrarán a "un encarnado", una especie de demonio que posee a una persona y que dará vida al peor mal de todos. Cómo una plaga que se propaga, los hermanos deben detenerlo a toda costa. Si te gusta "Los Niños del Maíz" de Stephen King, te gustara esta película pues bebe mucho de ello y de las historias rurales de terror. Nuevamente, es incómoda y dolorosa por aquello de ver a niños adorar el mal.
The Hills Have Eyes (1977) Wes Craven
Last but not least, I'll leave this classic of the slasher genre which, depending on the person, can even be comical to watch. The story centres on the Carters, a family who travel by caravan through the Nevada desert in search of a silver mine they have inherited. Warned by a local to go on to California and give up on the idea, the father of the family goes ahead. With such bad luck that they get lost on the way and end up in an accident. There they find that they are not alone, as some unsavoury characters soon make their presence known. It is strange, satisfying at times and, of course, unpleasant.
Las Colinas tienen Ojos (1977) de Wes Craven
Por último dejaré este clásico del género slasher el cuál, dependiendo de la persona, puede resultar hasta cómico de ver. La historia se centra en los Carter, una familia que viaja en caravana por el desierto de Nevada en búsqueda de una mina de plata que han heredado. Frente a la advertencias que le hace un lugareño de seguir a California y dejar de lado esa idea, el padre de la familia continúa con ello. Con tan mala suerte que se pierden en el camino y terminan accidentados. Allí encontrarán que no están solos pues pronto se harán presentes algunos personajes no gratos. Resulta extraña, satisfactoria en ciertos momentos y por supuesto, desagradable.
Finally my friends these have been my three films for this weekend. All of them are from the horror genre, some are stronger than others but definitely entertaining. At least for me they have been, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Without further ado, thank you very much for stopping by.
Finalmente amigas mías estas han sido mis tres películas para este fin semana. Todas son del género del terror, algunas son más fuertes que otras pero definitivamente son entretenidas. Hola, no he visto ninguna de las tres, porque no es mi género favorito aunque a veces las veo para salir de mi confort. Viniendo de ti que te gusta este tipo de películas las tomaré en cuenta para cuando quiera ver una de este tipo con mi esposo, porque cabe destacar que no las veo estando sola, me da miedo 😱 🤣🤣
