Concurso Cine TV: Danza con Lobos (la lealtad de un lobo) [ENG/ESP]
Hello to everyone in the Cine TV community! Today I join the contest #81 with this my participation. This time the theme to take into account is that of wild animals and their role in the film, so I immediately thought of one of the most emblematic and iconic films for having the participation of a wild animal, it is "Dances with Wolves", where one of our protagonists is precisely a beautiful wolf that acquires the name of "Socks". This film is especially dear to me because it happens to be one of the first films I saw with my partner.
To put a little in context I make a brief summary of the film. From 1990, directed by and starring Kevin Costner, the story takes place during the U.S. Civil War (1961-1965), when Lieutenant John Dunbar is sent to a post located on the border of the Indians (Sioux, Cheyenne and Pawnee) for surveillance and patrolling. There, in that residence where solitude apparently reigns, he meets "Socks" the wolf who will become his best friend and companion. Although the film is set in a warlike climate, it shows us a different perspective of this conflict; the union, respect, understanding and love that can arise between two apparent enemies. Here we are obviously talking about human relationships, but animal relationships are also included.
¡Hola a todos en la comunidad de Cine TV! El día de hoy me uno al concurso #81 con esta que es mi participación. En esta oportunidad el tema a tomar en cuenta es el de los animales salvajes y su protagonismo en la película, así que inmediatamente pensé en una de las películas más emblemáticas e icónicas por contar con la participación de un animal salvaje, se trata de "Danza con Lobos", dónde uno de nuestro protagonistas es precisamente un precioso lobo que adquiere el nombre de "Calcetines". Esta película adquiere especial cariño para mí pues resulta ser una de las primeras películas que ví con mí pareja.
Para poner un poco en contexto hago un breve resumen de la película. Del año 1990, dirigido y protagonizado por Kevin Costner, la historia transcurre durante la Guerra Civil de Estados Unidos (1961-1965), cuando el Teniente John Dunbar es enviado a un puesto ubicado en la frontera de los indios (los Sioux, los Cheyennes y los Pawnees) para hacer vigilancia y patrullaje. Allí, en esa residencia dónde aparentemente reina la soledad, conoce a "Calcetines" el lobo que se convertirá en su mejor amigo y compañía. La película, aunque está ambientada en un clima bélico, se encarga de enseñarnos una perspectiva diferente de este conflicto; la unión, el respeto, la comprensión y el amor que pueden surgir entre dos aparentes enemigos. Aquí obviamente hablamos de las relaciones humanas, pero la de los animales también va incluida.
The presence of "Socks" is comforting in the face of so much adversity. In the story John manages to win his friendship little by little and although the wolf seems to be attracted to him, he doesn't give himself up completely. He is distrustful. Trust is something John will gradually earn and the affection we see on screen between the two is adorable. With John talking to the animal as if they've known each other all their lives and as if he truly understands everything he says. Even when John alludes to how his white-stained paws make him look like he's wearing socks. Hence the name. And thanks to "Socks", he also earns a great nickname which is "Dances with Wolves", a name coined by one of the members of the Sioux upon noticing how John has managed to penetrate the heart of the wolf.
This act of trust and friendship (that he has with the wolf), makes him have a first approach to the Native Americans. He doubts about his mission. Little by little, he realizes that his motives in this war are not the right ones. And no, it's not all about the wolf but he does play a role in all this. So it can't be left out how much "Socks" affected John's outlook on life. Even if its ending was a bit tragic, for me it's one of those few movies where a wild animal makes sense. And then, although I forgot to mention, there is also another animal not so wild but important in John's life, Cisco, his loyal horse.
La presencia de "Calcetines" resulta consoladora frente tanta adversidad. En la historia John consigue hacerse de su amistad poco a poco y aunque el lobo parece atraerle su estado, tampoco se entrega del todo. Es desconfiado. La confianza es algo que John se irá ganando y el afecto que vemos en pantalla entre ambos, es adorable. Con un John hablando con el animal cómo si se conocieran de toda la vida y cómo si él de verdad le entendiera todo lo que comenta. Incluso cuando John hace alusión a qué sus patas manchadas de blanco lo hacen lucir cómo si llevara calcetines. De allí el nombre. Y gracias a "Calcetines", el también se gana un grandioso apodo el cual es "Danza con Lobos", nombre que le acuña uno de los miembros de los Sioux al notar cómo John a logrado penetrar en el corazón del lobo.
Ese acto de confianza y de relacion de amistad (que tiene con el lobo), le hace tener un primer acercamiento hacia los nativos americanos. Duda sobre su misión. Comprendiendo poco a poco que sus motivos dentro de esta guerra no son los correctos. Y no, no todo es por el lobo pero sí que juega un papel en todo esto. Por lo que no se puede dejar de lado lo mucho que "Calcetines" afecto la perspectiva de vida de John. Aunque su final haya sido un poco trágico, para mí es una de esas pocas películas donde un animal salvaje cobra sentido. Y además, aunque se me olvidaba mencionar, también está otro animal no tan salvaje pero importante en la vida de John, Cisco, su leal caballo.
Finally my friends, "Dances with Wolves" is a beautiful movie and worth seeing and knowing. So if you like movies where animals also play an important role, this is the one. It is hard not to be fond of the little prairie wolf and feel anguished every time they are in danger, as well as laugh with their antics and small moments of contact. And without leaving behind the scene that stayed in the memory of many of us, the Fire Dance that John performs and Socks contemplates. Así que si te gustan las películas donde los animales también cumple un rol importante, esta es la indicada. Es difícil no cobrar cariño al pequeño lobo de pradera y sentirnos angustiados cada que ellos están en peligro, así cómo reír con sus travesuras y pequeños instantes de contacto. Y sin dejar atrás la escena que quedó en la memoria de muchos de nosotros, la Danza de Fuego que John realiza y Calcetines contempla.
