Years ago I stopped watching the programming of traditional television channels, and I stopped consuming mechanically what the media put at my disposal. As a response to a personal need to make better use of my time, I have become very selective in the audiovisual content I consume, and I only watch things that I consider that contribute something to me.

In this space, accompanied by brief personal reviews, I share some of those audiovisual contents in general, which according to my personal parameters, are worth watching. I hope you enjoy them.

Hace años que dejé de ver la programación de los canales de televisión tradicionales, y dejé de consumir mecánicamente lo que los medios ponen a mi disposición. Como respuesta a una necesidad personal de aprovechar mejor mi tiempo me he vuelto muy selectivo en los contenidos audiovisuales que consumo, y veo solo cosas que considero que me aportan algo.

En este espacio, acompañados de breves reseñas personales, comparto parte de esos contenidos audiovisuales en general, que de acuerdo a mis parámetros personales, vale la pena ver. Espero los disfruten.

This is a film that has a curious similarity to the recent Netflix release titled 'Leave The World Behind', and like it shares the same controversies, but in this case more justified. In fact it feels almost as if the directors of both were tasked with developing the same idea, and each turned it into a film in their own way. It's not a bad film, but because it has an open ending it can be very frustrating for many.

The plot is simple. A young man travels to another city to visit his girlfriend's parents to notify them of his intention to marry her, and when he is at the airport waiting for his return flight, suddenly all flights are suspended and the news says that something happened in Los Angeles, and the city is cut off.

In view of this, he embarks with his future father-in-law, who is a retired military man, on a road trip to return home and reunite with his girlfriend. On the way they go through many vicissitudes, because now the whole country is incommunicado, strange events happen that make you think of an invasion or possible apocalypse, no one knows what is happening and the world has become no man's land.

Forrest Whitaker's performance as the father-in-law is excellent, and the lead, Theo James, is not bad, although his character has some inconsistencies. The film doesn't have anything that stands out in terms of production, but it has its moments and is well made.

The most controversial thing, as in 'Leave The World Behind', is the ending, because it does not give closure to the story, which will make more than one feel that two hours of their time were stolen. I didn't think it was a bad film, and there may be those who prefer it to 'Leave The World Behind', because it has a more traditional and consequently more accessible style.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

'Unlocked' is a spy movie filmed in 2017 that features a stellar cast in which veteran actors John Malkovich and Michael Douglas stand out. In the leading role we have actress Noomi Rapace, who has excelled in recent years in this type of films, and as main supporting actors we have Toni Collette and Orlando Bloom, the latter with an outstanding performance.

The story centers on a CIA spy, played by Noomi Rapace, who after a professional blunder that cost the lives of more than 20 innocent civilians, is sent, in a much more modest role, to England, where the film is set.

There, after the unexpected death of an interrogator, she is invited to participate at the last minute in a high-profile case, obtaining data from a suspected terrorist captured hours earlier, who has vital information to prevent an attack on British soil.

From the interrogation of the alleged terrorist, the plot unfolds as usual in this type of film, in this case wisely, generating plot twists that make it interesting and give rise to good performances by its outstanding cast.

You literally don't know who is who during this part of the story, and the plot that finally makes sense of the story is coherent in every way, and dangerously viable in the real world. A good film that is also short and doesn't drag on unnecessarily, which is always appreciated.

Esta es una película que tiene una curiosa similitud con el reciente estreno de Netflix, titulado 'Leave The World Behind', y como este comparte las mismas polémicas, pero en este caso más justificadas. De hecho se siente casi como si le hubieran encargado desarrollar una misma idea a los directores de ambas, y cada quien la convirtió en una película a su manera. No es una mala filme, pero como tiene un final abierto puede ser muy frustrante para muchos.

La trama es sencilla. Un joven viaja a otra ciudad a visitar a los padres de su novia para notificarles de su intención de casarse con ella, y cuando está en el aeropuerto esperando su vuelo de regreso, de repente se suspenden todos los vuelos y en las noticias se dice que algo paso en Los Angeles,y la ciudad está incomunicada.

Ante esto se embarca con su futuro suegro, que es un militar retirado, en un viaje por carretera para regresar a casa y reencontrarse con su novia. En el camino pasan por muchas vicisitudes, porque ahora todo el país está incomunicado, suceden hechos extraños que hacen pensar en una invasión o posible apocalipsis, nadie sabe que es lo que está pasado y el mundo se ha vuelto tierra de nadie.

La actuación de Forrest Whitaker, como el suegro, es excelente, y el protagonista, Theo James, no lo hace mal, aunque su personaje tiene algunas inconsistencias. La película no tiene nada que destaque sobremanera en cuando a su producción, pero tiene sus momentos y está bien realizada.

Lo más polémico, al igual que en 'Leave The World Behind', es el final, porque no da cierre a la historia, lo que a más de uno le hará sentir que le robaron dos horas de su tiempo. No me ha parecido una mala película, y puede que haya quienes la prefieran en lugar de 'Leave The World Behind', por tener una hechura más tradcional y en consecuencia accesible.

Calificación: 3 de 5 estrellas.

Unlocked es una película de espías filmada en el 2017 que cuenta con un elenco estelar en el que destacan los veteranos actores John Malkovich y Michael Douglas. En el rol protagónico tenemos a la actriz Noomi Rapace, quien ha destacado en los últimos años en este tipo de películas, y como actores secundarios principales tenemos a Toni Collette y Orlando Bloom, este último con una interpretación sobresaliente.

La historia se centra en una espía, de la CIA, interpretada por Noomi Rapace, que después de un desacierto profesional que le costó la vida a más de 20 civiles inocentes, es enviada, con un rol mucho más modesto, a Inglaterra, que es donde se desarrolla la película.

Ahí ante la muerte imprevista de un interrogador, es invitada a participar de última hora en un caso de alto perfil obteniendo datos de un presunto terrorista capturado horas antes, que tiene información vital para evitar un ataque en suelo británico.

A partir del interrogatorio del supuesto terrorista la trama se desenvuelve como es usual en este tipo de películas, en este caso atinadamente, generando giros en la trama que la hacen interesante y dan pie a buenas actuaciones por parte de su destacado elenco.

Literalmente uno no sabe quien es quien durante esta parte de la trama, y el argumento que finalmente da sentido a la historia es coherente en todo sentido, y peligrosamente viable en el mundo real. Una buena película que además es breve y no se alarga innecesariamente, lo cual siempre se agradece.

Calificación: 4 de 5 estrellas.
