Netflix's hit spy TV Series The Night Agent began production for season 3 less than a month after the second season was released on Netflix. The series follows the journey of Peter Sutherland and how he saves the United States President's life from the hands of white house conspirators, which later serves as his entry ticket into the Night Agent program in Season 2, a program filled with dangerous missions and little to no trust for the next person.

The series was a big hit after its first season which brought in a total of 98.2 million views in the space of 91 days. The Night Agent reached the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 in 87 countries and was No. 1 on the Global Top 10 for four consecutive weeks.

Thoughts and Review

The series came with a unique spice and suspense, especially season 1, filled with a new cast I have barely seen in other movies and TV series. Honestly, it was what I was looking for, something fresh on my screen in 2023. From the storyline and acting, I had my suspicions that it had to be based on a novel because the scriptwriting was well crafted. I did my findings and discovered it was based on the novel of the same name. The novel was written by Matthew Quirk.

The first episode grabbed my full interest with actions happening back to back, nonstop, and a little sprinkle of romance between the two lead characters (Peter and Rose). Gabriel Basso, the actor who plays Peter Sutherland has to be commended for his brilliance in acting, and if that isn't enough, he happens to carry out his stunts in the series all by himself. This goes to show his dedication to the project and talent. Emerging from his childhood acting days in movies like Ghost Town, The Big C and many more we come to see Gabriel Basso grow into the shoes of a big-time Hollywood star and a full-grown man, not just in body physique but also in lead-role acting and stunt performance.

As the storyline evolves, things get more mysterious for both the characters and the viewers to uncover but one certain thing, it showcases how organized crime and corruption run deep in the United States Government Agencies, and no stones were left unturned even in season 2 when more characters were introduced with a more developing story.

The Night Agent got me hooked on its first season and I highly recommend you binge it during the weekend and during your free time. It is popularly known that TV Series tend to drop in quality following each season but it is only fair to say this isn't completely the case with The Night Agent. Even though the actions were still intact there were some new developments in the second season that left some questions in the minds of Night Agent fans, like:

  • How was Peter a wanted man by the FBI, CIA, and Night Agency, yet they weren't able to find him but Rose could find him in less than 48 hours?
  • What is with the on-and-off romance between Peter and Rose? If guys are going to be a thing, then just be one already.
  • And lasting some pretty annoying characters will raise your blood pressure and leave you questioning their sanity.
