CineTV Contest: Meet Me In St. Louis.
Musical movies are one of the greatest movies to watch. This means music and movie would be combined all together. Music is life and movie is life so having two of that in one makes it more interesting.
One movie musical I’ve watched and was able to flow with is Meet me in St. Louis.
It’s an American Christmas musical film released in the year 1944 directed by Vincente Minnelli.
Story Plot
The Smith’s family, an upper-middle class family is a family of seven which consists of the two parents, Alonzo Smith and Anna Smith, the son Lon Jr and their four daughters, Esther, Rose, Agnes and Tootie Smith.
Esther was in love with a boy who lives next door to her named John Truett who wasn’t even aware that there is a lady named Esther Smith who loved him but they finally had an encounter.
That happened when Agnes and Tootie attended a bonfire on Halloween but got back home with a lost tooth and told their sister, Esther that John tried to kill her. As a loving sister, Esther confronted John and even tried to attack him physically. Agnes and Tootie never knew she’d go that far so they confessed to their sister that John tried to protect them from the police after their dangerous prank went wrong.
Maybe John liked Esther earlier too because he kissed her immediately she went back to apologize to him. Things went well between John and Esther but that happened only for a short while.
Things got ruined when Mr Smith when he was sent to New York City on a business trip and he wants them all to move there after Christmas.
The person who got sad about the news most is Esther because this has threatened her relationship with John.
Also, Mr Smith apologized to his upset wife as they sing tender duet at the piano.
Before they all decide to move to New York, Esther and her sisters thought of going to an elegant ball on Christmas eve. John had planned to go too but could not take Esther along because he was late to pick up his tuxedo but the moment when her grandfather offers to take her to the ball, she became happy.
Right there, she sighted John and became very happy. John proposed to her right away even though she didn’t expect it. Esther said yes but no one knows what the future will hold because Esther is moving to New York very soon.
After the ball, Esther got home and found Tootie worrying about all her toys and not being sure if she could take them all to New York but as a good sister that Esther is, she sings a song for Tootie to console her but that didn’t work.
Tootie destroys some of her toys but her father, Mr Smith after seeing the reaction if everyone had a family meeting with them all and told them they weren’t going to move to New York anymore.
Everyone became happy and Warren declares his love for Rose.
The family became happy again while John and Esther had a great relationship.
What a great movie!
What do I love or hate about the movie?
There’s nothing to hate here. I’m not saying this movie is extremely perfect but yeah, it’s an amazing one. The greatest thing I love about that movie is the music part of it.
They didn’t just make it a movie but made sure that everyone who has a singing role in that movie had a great voice that would make things soothing.
I love it!
How did this movie influence me?
It’s majorly in one way. It influenced me by making me watch more musical movies. I never knew they could be this interesting but now that I have watched one, I can decide to watch more of it.
Also, love is real. What if they moved to New York? What would have happened between Esther and John. They may not break up but I can tell that it wasn’t going to be easy.
Any performance of the actors/actress that left an impression.
My big kudos goes to Judy Garland who played the role of Esther Smith. I can tell that she’s that girl made for the role and the way she sings, she’s exceptional. I guess she uses an opera voice pitch and I enjoy it when she sings.
I’d love to give this movie a perfect rating. Also, I’d like to say that old things are golden. That’s one reason why the movie is a great one. Let me rate it a 9/10 and that’s truly what it deserves.
