Film Review The Whole Truth [ENG-ESP]
I am not a lover of Asian productions, so far I had not given a chance to any film that was not Jackie Chan or samurai (as Shōgun I’m watching now), in fact they are the ones I associate more with those countries. But these last few years Asian movies of different genres have become fashionable, right here in the community there is always a post reviewing dramatic or romantic movies, apparently these get a lot of attention.
According to the description I have read of some of them, they have not yet awakened in me the curiosity to venture into that world, but a few days ago my husband found this Thai movie, described as a horror movie and he just let it go before going to sleep. My only thought was that it’s not the genre I would have chosen, but I still wanted to try new things and see what it was all about. At least so I could say I finally saw an Asian movie, not a K-Drama but a horror movie 😱 but I’m getting close.
I couldn’t finish watching it in one night, but even though it didn’t seem to be going at a good pace I still wanted to see how the story continued to unfold and what was hiding in that house. I’ll tell you what it was about, I’ll try not to give you major spoilers.
No soy amante de las producciones asiáticas, hasta este momento no le había dado una oportunidad a ninguna que no fuera una película de Jackie Chan o una de samuráis (como Shōgun que estoy viendo ahora), en realidad son las que mas asoció con esos países. Pero estos últimos años se han puesto de moda las películas asiáticas de diferentes géneros, aquí mismo en la comunidad siempre hay una publicación reseñando películas dramáticas o románticas, al parecer estas llaman mucho la atención.
Según la descripción que he leído de algunas no han despertado aún en mí la curiosidad de aventurarme en ese mundo, pero hace unos días mi esposo encontró está película tailandesa, descrita como una película de terror y que si más ni más dejó correr antes de dormir. Lo único en lo que pensé fue en que no es no es el género que yo hubiera escogido pero de igual manera quería probar cosas nuevas y ver de que se trataba. Al menos para poder decir que por fin me vi una película asiática, no un K-Drama sino una película de terror 😱, pero me estoy acercando.
No pude terminar de verla en una sola noche, pero aunque no me parecía que iba con un buen ritmo de igual manera quería ver como se seguía desarrollando la historia y que era lo que se escondía en esa casa. Te cuento de que se trataba, voy a tratar de no hacerte ningún spoiler importante.
Mai lives alone with her two teenage sons, Pim and Putt. Pim is a cheerleader on the school’s cheerleading squad and from what we see is very popular and well liked among her peers, while Putt is a shy boy with a disability in one leg that forces him to wear braces. Mai works very hard and to celebrate her recent promotion she invites her children to dinner at the restaurant of her choice, but she can’t make it on time because with her new position also comes new responsibilities that prevent her from leaving the office at the scheduled time.
It was a rainy night and on the road she has an accident that leaves her in a hospital in a coma, her children know nothing, until the supposed grandfather shows up at her house with the news. A man they had never seen but offers to take them to the hospital to see their mother, there they meet their grandmother a mentally ill woman who seems very confused. Since they don’t know when the mother will wake up, the grandfather decides that Pam and Putt will spend those days with them at his house. A place they had never visited but according to the grandparents it had been their home when they were little, at least Pam’s had been.
In the grandparents’ house very strange things begin to happen, the children begin to see a hole in the wall that transports them to a room where apparently very dark things happen and that for them at first do not make sense, but as they continue seeing they find answers to the questions.
Mai, vive sola con sus dos hijos adolescentes, Pim y Putt. Pim es porrista del equipo del colegio y hasta donde se ve es muy popular y querida entre sus compañeras, en cambio Putt es un chico tímido con una discapacidad en una pierna por lo que debe usar aparatos ortopédicos. Mai trabaja muy duro y para celebrar su reciente ascenso invita a sus hijos a cenar en el restaurante de su preferencia, pero no puede llegar a tiempo ya que con su nuevo cargo también vienen nuevas responsabilidades que le impiden salir de la oficina a la hora planteada.
Era una noche lluviosa y en la carretera tiene un accidente que la deja en un hospital en coma, sus hijos no saben nada, hasta que se aparece en su casa el supuesto abuelo con la noticia. Un hombre que nunca habían visto pero que se ofrece a llevarlos al hospital a ver a su madre, allí conocen a su abuela una mujer mentalmente enferma que parece muy confundida. Cómo no se sabe cuando la madre va a despertar el abuelo decide que Pam y Putt deben ir a pasar esos días con ellos en su casa. Un lugar que ellos nunca había visitado pero que según los abuelos había sido su hogar cuando eran pequeños, al menos el de Pam.
En la casa de los abuelos empiezan a pasar cosas muy extrañas, los chicos empiezan a ver un agujero en la pared que los transporta a una habitación donde al parecer ocurren cosas muy oscuras y que para ellos al principio no tienen sentido, pero que a medida que siguen viendo van encontrando respuestas.
The acting of the actors was not to my liking, I feel that it lacked expressiveness in some scenes and in others it was very overacted, the girl was always worried but I did not feel that concern in a way that made me care about her. The child, super calm did whatever the grandmother told her to do. The grandmother, apparently was starting to get Alzheimer’s so she would change conversations and at times seem sane and then go off the deep end, I think the only average acting is the grandmother’s. The grandfather is an excop who kept looking for culprits for his daughter’s accident, to get revenge. Mai, for most of the movie was in a coma.
The game of the cameras had many close-ups to the faces of the characters, I imagine that so that the reactions and emotions could be seen but it was not really something pleasant, because as I said I did not feel much, on the contrary it was something annoying that approach to the face of the grandmother or Pam.
The terror as such was when they saw through the hole in the wall, and the first two times, I may have felt some fear and expectation, but then it became like a comedy and I didn’t get to be scared as it was supposed to happen. It was a little disappointing.
Secret, if there was a secret in the house and within this family why they had separated and Mai didn’t want her parents to get close to her children and she herself had kept those secrets. But I’m not going to talk about that, as this part of the story may be the only thing that half makes sense, although the scene in which it is explained also seems all a fictional set-up, with no credibility whatsoever.
La actuación de los actores no fue de mi agrado, siento que faltaba expresión en algunas escenas y en otras era muy sobreactuada, la chica siempre estaba preocupada pero esa preocupación no la sentía de manera que me hiciera preocupar con ella. El chico, súper tranquilo hacia todo lo que la abuela dijera. La abuela, al parecer estaba empezando a sufrir de Alzheimer entonces cambiaba de conversación y por momentos parecía cuerda y luego se perdía, creo que la única actuación promedio es la de la abuela. El abuelo un ex policía que se la paso buscando quien era el culpable del accidente de su hija, para vengarse. Mai, pues casi toda la película estuvo en coma.
El juego de las cámaras tenía muchos acercamientos a los rostros de los personajes, me imagino que para que se pudieran ver las reacciones y emociones pero de verdad no fue algo agradable, porque como dije no logré sentir mucho, al contrario se hacia algo molesto ese acercamiento a la cara de la abuela o de Pam.
El terror como tal estaba cuando veían por el agujero en la pared, y las dos primeras veces, puede que haya sentido algo de miedo y expectativa, pero después se convirtió como en una comedia y no me llegue a asustar como se suponía que pasará. Fue algo decepcionante.
Secreto, si había un secreto en la casa y dentro de esta familia por el cual se había separado y Mai no quería que sus padres se acercarán a sus hijos y ella misma había guardado esos secretos. Pero de eso no voy a hablar, ya que puede que está parte de la historia sea lo único que medio tenga sentido, aunque la escena donde se explica también parezca todo un montaje ficticio, sin nada de credibilidad.
I think I had already taken several series and movies that I liked, until I came across this one, although it was not my choice I ended up watching it and it was 2 hours of movie that at times made me want to stop watching. There is everything and for all tastes, maybe someone else will see it and find the positive points, that’s why there is a saying that says for tastes, there are colors.
Creo que ya había traído varias series y películas que me había gustado, hasta que me topé con esta, que aunque no fue mi elección terminé de ver y fueron 2 horas de película en los que por momentos tuve ganas de no seguir viendo. Hay de todo y para todos los gustos, quizás otra persona la ve y le encuentra los puntos positivos, por eso hay un dicho que dice para los gustos, están los colores.
Me parece bueno el intento de probar ver algo nuevo cada tanto, salir de la zona de confort de las cosas que ya sabemos que nos gustan. Lamento que te haya decepcionado esta película, al menos la contaste de una forma interesante que me da cierta curiosidad. Saludos!
Que bueno que te haya gustado 😃 si la ves me cuentas si te gustó. A mí no, pero creo que más fue por toda la parte técnica que nombré, las actuaciones, la cámaras, escenas que en vez de verse realistas parecen teatro. Pero la historia y el final tenían un punto. Creo que sí lo hubiera leído en un libro me hubiera gustado.
Vi esta película el año pasado, me pareció como de misterio y suspenso y drama, no me pareció de terror, pero si es bien interesante, de mi parte quede complacida de como se descubre la verdad sobre la niña que está encerrada, que se ve desde ese agujero en la pared.
Es que esa parte de la historia está bien. Es más, toda la idea está bien. Lo que no me gustó es la parte técnica que nombré como las actuaciones, las camaras y lo poco realista que parecía todo.
Entiendo amiga es cierto hubo mucho descuido en ese aspecto.😄
