Christmas movie review Violent Night. [ENG-ESP]
Desde siempre muchos han considerado Duro de Matar como una película navideña, para mí es una película de acción ambientada en esa época, pero se hubiera podido hacer en julio y sería casi lo mismo, así como Rascacielos Rescate de las Alturas protagonizada por La Roca (Dwayne Johnson) que es otra película con un contexto similar. En cuanto a esta película que les voy a hablar hoy pasa todo lo contrario porque aunque es de acción al igual que las anteriores en esta película el héroe solo lo podemos ver en Navidad 🎅🏻.
Está película es protagonizada por David Harbour a quien me costó reconocer porque su personificación estuvo increíble, fue estrenada en el 2022 pero el año pasado no la pude ver, así que este diciembre la he visto un monto de veces y aunque mis películas navideñas favoritas son las de comedia románticas donde todo es paz y armonía está película de acción no me ha molestado en lo absoluto más bien me ha dado mucho en que reflexionar y compararla con otras que ya había visto.
Aunque es una película de navidad con Santa Claus como protagonista no es para nada una película infantil. Es una película de acción con algunos toques de comedia.
Many have always considered “Die Hard” as a Christmas movie, for me it is an action movie set in that time, but it could have been made in July and it would be almost the same, just like Rescue from heights starring The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) which is another movie with a similar context. As for this movie I am going to talk about today it is quite the opposite because although it is action like the previous ones in this movie the hero can only be seen at Christmas 🎅🏻.
This movie stars David Harbour who I had trouble recognizing because his imitation was incredible, it was released in 2022 but last year I could not see it, so this December I have seen it a lot of times and although my favorite Christmas movies are romantic comedies where everything is peace and harmony this action movie has not bothered me at all rather it has given me a lot to reflect and compare it with others I had already seen.
Although it is a Christmas movie with Santa Claus as the main character, it is not at all a children’s movie. It is an action movie with some touches of comedy.

Todo comienza con una familia de casi divorciados (Jason, Linda y Trudy) que van a pasar su última navidad juntos en casa de la familia de él, una familia muy poderosa y con mucho dinero. Al mismo tiempo tenemos a Santa Claus haciendo su trabajo pero con un espíritu navideño muy bajo, se encuentra decepcionado de las personas, no es el Santa Claus al que estamos acostumbrados ver, como un abuelito tierno, no, este anda desaliñado, bebe licor y con un toque picaron.
La velada de los Lightstone transcurre en total calma hasta que un grupo de mercenarios infiltrados como parte de la servidumbre asesina a todos los efectivos de seguridad y se apoderan de la mansión, con la intención de robar millones que se encuentran en la bóveda de seguridad de la poderosa Gertrude, cabeza de la familia Lightstone. Da la casualidad que en ese momento nuestro Santa Claus hace su parada en ese lugar para dejar los regalos a Trudy.
It all starts with an almost divorced family (Jason, Linda and Trudy) who are going to spend their last Christmas together at his family’s house, a very powerful family with a lot of money. At the same time we have Santa Claus doing his job but with a very low Christmas spirit, he is disappointed in people, he is not the Santa Claus we are used to see, as a tender grandfather, no, this one is disheveled, drinks liquor and with a touch of spice.
The Lightstone’s evening goes by in total calm until a group of mercenaries infiltrated as part of the servants kill all the security personnel and take over the mansion, with the intention of stealing millions that are in the safety vault of the powerful Gertrude, head of the Lightstone family. It just so happens that at that moment our Santa Claus makes his stop at that place to leave gifts for Trudy.
Siguiendo las costumbres, Santa come las galletas que Trudy ha dejado para él, pero no las acompaña con leche como es de suponerse, sino con el más fino licor que encuentra, al estar tan cómodo se le pasa el tiempo hasta que escucha los disparos, y al querer escapar se da cuenta que sus renos asustados han huido dejándolo allí.
Al observar el problema en el que se encuentra está familia, especialmente Trudy, no le queda más remedio que intervenir recordando lo que hacia en su vida anterior.
Following the customs, Santa eats the cookies that Trudy has left for him, but he does not accompany them with milk as it is supposed, but with the finest liquor he can find, being so comfortable the time passes until he hears the shots, and when he wants to escape he realices that his frightened reindeer have fled leaving him there.
Observing the trouble this family is in, especially Trudy, he has no choice but to intervene, remembering what he did in his previous life.
Recuerdan haber visto películas de navidad dónde un sujeto normal es escogido para ocupar el trabajo de Santa Claus, pero en esas películas este sujeto generalmente es un hombre de familia o un ejecutivo que tiene que dejar sus obligaciones para emprender un nuevo desafío. Bueno, ahora imaginen que el seleccionado para el trabajo de Santa es un bárbaro, asesino y vikingo. Esto de asesinar se le da de manera muy natural hasta cuando no quiere hacerlo, pero con el tiempo que lleva como Santa también tiene una parte de justicia y de héroe para defender a los niños a costa de lo que sea.
Do you remember seeing Christmas movies where a normal guy is chosen to take Santa’s job, but in those movies this guy is usually a family man or an executive who has to leave his duties to take on a new challenge. Well, now imagine that the one selected for Santa’s job is a barbarian, murderer and Viking. This murdering thing comes very naturally to him even when he doesn’t want to do it, but with the time he has been Santa he also has a side of justice and hero to defend the children at any cost.
Está película es violenta así como su nombre lo indica, en ella vamos a encontrar mucha sangre y escenas bastantes fuertes, pero también tiene comedia que ayuda sobrellevar la violencia.
En cuanto a los personajes como dije, David Harbour personificando a Santa Claus fue estupendo, no lo reconocía pero me imagino que tuvo que engordar y hacer ejercicio para interpretar este papel. Los mercenarios son personajes que aunque son agresivos no inspiran miedo, se ven un poco caricaturescos al igual que el resto de la familia Lightstone, sacando a Trudy y a Linda, el resto son ricachones, engreídos y hasta estúpidos. Por un momento pensé que no merecían ser protegidos.
Toda la película transcurre en víspera de Navidad, con un soundtrack y una ambientación totalmente navideña hasta en el nombre y vestuario de los mercenarios, sin sacar a los adornos que son usados como armas letales.
This movie is violent as its name suggests, in it we are going to find a lot of blood and quite strong scenes, but it also has comedy that helps to cope with the violence.
As for the characters as I said, David Harbour impersonating Santa Claus was great, I did not recognize him but I imagine he had to put on weight and exercise to play this role. The mercenaries are characters that although they are aggressive they don’t inspire fear, they look a bit cartoonish just like the rest of the Lightstone family, taking out Trudy and Linda, the rest are rich, conceited and even stupid. For a moment I thought they didn’t deserve to be protected.
The entire film takes place on Christmas Eve, with a soundtrack and a totally Christmas setting, even in the name and costumes of the mercenaries, without taking out the ornaments that are used as lethal weapons.
Me encanto que en estás navidades haya podido ver no solo películas navideñas de las que estoy acostumbrada sino que pude explorar una variedad de películas con historias fuera de lo cotidiano y dentro de géneros mas diversos, como esta.

I loved that this Christmas I was able to see not only Christmas movies that I’m used to but I was able to explore a variety of movies with stories outside the everyday and within more diverse genres, like this one.

This is a very controversial Christmas movie (to say the least, haha!).
Sure, it's out of the ordinary and it's a Christmas movie for adults. Lots of violence.
For sure it is a fun christmas movie, for adults of course hahaha
