The Late Night With The Devil, Review (ENG/SPA)
Hello, people of the Internet, everything ok? Today I want to talk to you about this film that although it didn't scare me, I consider it a good film due to the resources it possesses. On a cinematographic level I consider that it worked well its elements, which makes it a very good filmic work, worthy of breaking down and analysing.
Hola gente de Internet ¿todo bien? Hoy quiero hablarles de esta película que si bien no me asustó, considero que es una buena película debido a los recursos que posee. A nivel cinematográfico considero que trabajó bien sus elementos, lo que la hace un trabajo fílmico muy bueno, digno de desglosar y analizar.
The film belongs to the ‘found footage’ genre which was popularised by films such as The Blair Witch Project or more recently "Rec". In this specific case, it is a ‘lost episode’ of a programme from the 1970s.
El largometraje pertenece al género "metraje encontrado” el cual fue popularizado por películas como El Proyecto de la Bruja de Blair o más “recientemente” Rec. En este caso en específico, se trata de un “episodio perdido” de un programa de los años 70’s
The advantage of this genre is that it works with realism, that is to say, the immersion must be very good in order to make the spectator believe that it is real footage (or at least that is the main idea with which this genre originated). Of course, if the immersion is not well worked, the project can fail miserably, fortunately, this was not the case.
La ventaja de este género es que trabaja con el realismo, es decir, la inmersión debe ser muy buena para poder hacer creer al espectador que se trata de un metraje real (o al menos es la idea principal con la que se originó dicho género) Claro que, de no trabajarse bien la inmersión, el proyecto puede fracasar estrepitosamente, menos mal, este no fue el caso.
Jack Delroy is an illustrious and very famous TV presenter, used to the top, is shaken when he realises that his show is steadily declining in ratings, so, in a desperate attempt, he broadcasts the episode that could save his career, one that is inspired by Halloween. To boost ratings, he invites paranormal ‘experts’ to his show, including a parapsychologist who is accompanied by a girl who supposedly carries a demon inside her. Jack, interested in boosting his ratings even more, tells the parapsychologist to summon the demon, and as a result, everything spirals out of control in a series of paranormal and terrifying events and a shocking plot twist.
Jack Delroy es un presentador de televisión ilustre y muy famoso, acostumbrado a la cúspide, es sacudido cuando se da cuenta de que su show va bajando paulatinamente de audiencia, así que, en un intento desesperado, emite el episodio que podría salvar su carrera, uno que está inspirado en Halloween. Para subir la audiencia, invita a su programa a “expertos” de lo paranormal, entre ellos, una parapsicóloga que está acompañada por una niña que supuestamente porta un demonio en su interior, Jack interesado en incrementar aún más su audiencia, le dice a la parapsicóloga que invoque al demonio y como resultado todo se sale de control en una serie de eventos paranormales y aterradores, además de un giro de trama impresionante.
Let's start by talking about the plot, characters and performances. I think everyone did a great job, especially the main character, because he not only has to act like his character (a man of the 70s) but also like a presenter of the time, who, by the way, had a characteristic way of conduction. The way in which the characters act and the naturalness with which they interact accentuates the immersion, which is very good in terms of setting and costumes.
Empezaremos hablando de la trama, personajes y actuaciones. Considero que todos hicieron un gran trabajo, sobre todo el protagonista, debido a que, no solo debe actuar como su personaje (un hombre de los 70s) sino como un presentador de la época, que dicho sea de paso, tenían un modo característico de conducción. La forma en la que se desenvuelven los personajes y la naturalidad con la que interactúan, acentúa la inmersión, la cual es muy buena a nivel de ambientación y vestuario.
The cinematography is another aspect that I really liked, the predominant colour palette is warm but pastel or washed out, which in turn helps to convey that ‘aged’ look if we look at shows from that era, it certainly has the same or a similar colour palette. The good use of lights and shadows I liked, however, I can't praise the special effects as they are also very period, like the ones used in polstergaist, I think to maintain the setting they should have used current effects to help with the feeling of reality, that we are talking about the real episode of a TV show. All in all, the whole setting was good except for that one point.
La fotografía es otro de los aspectos que me gustó mucho, la paleta de colores predominantes son cálidos pero pasteles o deslucidos, lo que a su vez ayuda a transmitir esa apariencia de “envejecido” si miramos shows de esa época, ciertamente tienen la misma o una similar paleta de colores. La buena utilización de luces y sombras me gustó, sin embargo, no puedo alabar los efectos especiales ya que también son muy de la época, muy parecidos a los de polstergeist, creo que para mantener la ambientación han debido usar efectos actuales para ayudar con la sensación de realidad, ya que estamos hablado del episodio real de un programa de televisión. En resumen, toda la ambientación fue buena a excepción de ese punto
The composition of the shots is also very good, there are some that are quite interesting and that add dynamism to the film, they are flat, fixed, typical of this type of show, and there are also less precise close-ups, with a slight movement, also typical of the cameras of the time. The interesting thing is precisely (speaking of shots) how these make you believe you are watching a real program.
La composición de los planos también es muy buena, hay algunos que resultan bastante interesantes y que aportan dinamismo al film, son planos, fijos, típicos de este tipo de show, y también hay acercamientos menos precisos, con un ligero movimiento, típico también de las cámaras de la época. Lo interesante es precisamente (hablando de planos) como estos te hacen creer estar viendo un programa real
The soundtrack is also another positive aspect, quite good, very appropriate for the scenes.
El soundtrack también es otro de los aspectos positivos , bastante bueno, muy acertado para las escenas
In short, it is a good film, quite entertaining and with a good plot twist that keeps the viewer's attention focused. As I mentioned before, it has very good resources that make it an excellent film work, quite recommendable.
En resumen, es una buena película, bastante entretenida y con un buen giro de trama que mantiene la atención del espectador centrada. Como antes mencioné, tiene muy buenos recursos que la hacen un excelente trabajo fílmico, bastante recomendable.
