Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Devil in the Mattress, episode analysis (ENG/SPA)

Hello, Internet people, everything ok? Today continuing with my favorite cartoons from when I was a kid, I'm going to do a Review of “Demon in the Mattress” one of the creepiest episodes of the series and which is a reference and parody to the movie “The Exorcist”.

Hola, gente de Internet ¿Todo bien? Hoy siguiendo con mis caricaturas preferidas de cuando era niña, voy a hacer una Review de "Demonio en el Colchón" uno de los episodios más escalofriantes de la serie y que es una referencia y parodia a la película "El Exorcista"

Muriel decides to buy another mattress because the one she has is already old, what none of them knows is that the mattress is cursed because a demon is attached to it. While sleeping on her new mattress, Muriel is possessed by a demon.

Muriel decide comprar otro colchón porque el que tiene ya está viejo, lo que ninguno sabe es que dicho colchón está maldito ya que un demonio está adherido a él. Mientras duerme en su nuevo colchón, Muriel es poseída

It is very hilarious the fact that when Muriel calls to ask for her mattress, the person on the line speaks in a suspicious and creepy way and Muriel doesn't even flinch, on the other hand on the other phone is Courage listening to the conversation and is scared with “normal” phrases for a mattress, phrases like “it's soft, it's smooth, it's comfortable” although the line says it in a strange way, are normal characteristics of a mattress, so the ambiguity between the fact that Muriel does not flinch at all and Courage that exaggerates, is very funny.

Es muy hilarante el hecho de que cuando Muriel llama para pedir su colchón, el de la linea habla de forma sospechosa y escalofriante y Muriel ni se inmuta, por otro lado en el otro teléfono está Coraje oyendo la conversación y se asusta con frases "normales" tratándose de un colchón, frases como "es suave, es terso, es confortable" si bien el de la linea lo dice de forma rara, son características normales de un colchón, así que la ambigüedad entre el hecho de que Muriel que no se inmuta para nada y Coraje que exagera, es muy graciosa.

On the other hand we already know that everything goes wrong when a couple of rats go to look for the mattress in a cavernous area, and to top it off they take it to Muriel's house in a carriage pulled by a creepy horse, When Muriel takes a nap on that mattress she is possessed by an entity.

Por otro lado ya sabemos que todo va mal cuando un par de ratas van a buscar el colchón a una zona cavernosa, y para colmo lo llevan a casa de Muriel en un carruaje tirado por un caballo espeluznante, Cuando Muriel toma una siesta sobre ese colchón es poseída por una entidad.

The funniest thing about this episode is that normally Eustace is always mean to Courage and despises him, but in this episode he has to collaborate with the little dog to try to save Muriel and get out of that situation. The possession started in the afternoon and at 12:00 am the two were still sitting in the living room terrified discussing what to do 😂🤣 (they had seen Muriel's head turn and even fall off).

Lo más gracioso de este episodio es que normalmente Justo siempre le hace maldades a Coraje y lo desprecia, sin embargo en este episodio debe sí o si colaborar con el perrito para intentar salvar a Muriel y salir de esa situación. La posesión empezó en las tarde y a las 12:00 am aún estaban los dos sentados en la sala aterrorizados discutiendo que hacer 😂🤣 (habían visto a Muriel girar la cabeza y que incluso se le cayera)

As it is a parody of The Exorcist, there are several of the same dialogues like “she's here with us” and it's very good, it's funny in this context, plus I also laughed a lot when the demon invites Courage to come closer and closer, and at the end he says “it would be nice to have a cup of...” and Courage is expectant, trembling with fear when Muriel says “TE” screaming, then she takes out under the sheets a tray with a teapot and a cup of tea and Courage screams. “ but then shuts up and stares at the cup realizing that he screamed for no reason and the whole context is very funny.

Como es una parodia de El Exorcista, hay varios dialogos iguales como "ella está aquí con nosotros" y está muy bien, es gracioso en este contexto, además me dio mucha risa también cuando el demonio le invita a Coraje a acercarse cada vez más, y al final le dice "seria bueno tomar una taza de..." y Coraje está expectante, temblando de miedo cuando Muriel dice "TE" gritando, luego saca de debajo de las sabanas una charola con una tetera y una taza de te y Coraje grita, pero luego se calla y se queda observando la taza dándose cuenta que gritó sin razón y todo el contexto es muy gracioso.

From here on (and as is natural in the show) everything becomes more absurd, Courage plays the game of thumbs with the demon and the demon wins, so he has no choice but to look on his computer for a tutorial on how to exorcise (which by the way had a very good AI) and the indications say that they have to wear loose clothes (Eustace wears Muriel's) and must recite an incantation (which by the way is very funny) Eustace tries but can't, which makes the demon mock him, then Courage goes to the backyard of the house and digging around he gets another robe from Muriel which by the way looks very funny on him 🤣🤣 then he tries the incantation, which looks more like a cheerleader cheer, however it works and when the demon comes out and stays suspended in the air, Eustace enters with a special suit to try the incantation and ends up being possessed, he tries to attack Muriel but Courage bites him, so Muriel takes the opportunity to hit him with a rolling pin on the head and faint him.

A partir de aquí (y como es natural en el programa) todo se vuelve más absurdo, Coraje juega el juego de los pulgares con el demonio y el demonio gana, así que no le queda más remedio que buscar en su computadora un tutorial de como exorcizar (que por cierto tenia una IA buenísima) y las indicaciones dicen que tienen que ponerse ropa holgada (Justo se pone la de Muriel) y debe recitar un conjuro (que por cierto es muy gracioso) Justo lo intenta pero no puede, lo que hace que el demonio se burle de el, entonces Coraje va al patio de la casa y escarbando consigue otra bata de Muriel que por cierto le queda muy graciosa 🤣🤣 entonces intenta el conjuro, el cual parece más bien una porra de cheerleader, sin embargo funciona y cuando el demonio sale y se queda suspendido en el aire, entra Justo con un traje especial a intentar el conjuro y termina siendo poseído, intenta atacar a Muriel pero Coraje lo muerde, así que Muriel aprovecha la ocasión para darle con un rodillo en la cabeza y desmayarlo.

The episode ends with Courage and Muriel getting rid of the mattress and even Eustace 🤣🤣.

El episodio termina cuando Coraje y Muriel se deshacen del colchón con todo y Justo 🤣🤣

I have to say that it is a very good parody, like every episode of Courage gives a lot of laughter, as well as fear (when you are a child) as always the handling of terror is very good, even you feel uncomfortable when Eustace or Courage must climb the stairs to see Muriel, especially for the shot from the top of the stairs as they make the distance between the upper and lower floor more distant, that plus Muriel's guttural moans generate tension.

Tengo que decir que es una muy buena parodia, como cada episodio de Coraje da mucha risa, además de miedo (cuando eres niño) como siempre el manejo del terror es muy bueno, incluso sientes incomodidad cuando Justo o Coraje deben subir las escaleras a ver a Muriel, sobre todo por el plano desde lo alto de las escaleras, ya que hacen ver la distancia entra el piso superior y el inferior más lejanos, eso más los quejidos guturales de Muriel generan tensión.

As with the previous episode, this one didn't disappoint me, it was really good, just as I remembered it (except for the fear because I've obviously grown up) but it's still just as enjoyable.

Tal cual como con el episodio anterior este no me decepcionó, la verdad es muy bueno, tal cual como lo recordaba (a excepción del miedo porque evidentemente ya crecí) pero sigue siendo igual de disfrutable.
