When children really are the future of humanity: review of "The Boy Who Tamed the Wind"

Netflix had been warning me that this movie was right for me, and even though I wanted to see it, for some reason I didn't listen. Netflix was right, I loved this production.

This is literally the third movie I've watched since November 2023, date since which, I haven't watched any series.

The reviews I've shared correspond to the productions I liked the most and had seen very close to my emigration date. However, The Snow Society and A Star Is Born, are the other two I have watched in my nomadic life.

Although I keep my Netflix subscription, currently for me, watching a movie is a tremendous luxury, as I don't have too much time and when I do, I take the opportunity to meet, to go to the gym, to do Yoga.

The other day, about 4 nights ago, I decided to buy a pizza and watch a movie. And I said: this is it. I was celebrating that I changed jobs and now I can be at home at night.

Anyway... let's get to the important thing, which is the review!

Cuando los niños son realmente el futuro de la humanidad: reseña de “El Niño que domó el viento”

Netflix me venía advirtiendo que esta película era ideal para mí, y aunque quería verla, por algún motivo no hacía caso. Netflix tenía razón, amé esta producción.

Esta es la tercera película que he visto literalmente desde noviembre de 2023, fecha desde la cual, no he visto ninguna serie.

Las reseñas que he compartido corresponden a las producciones que más me gustaron y que había visto muy cerca de mi fecha de emigración. Sin embargo, La Sociedad de la Nieve y Nace una Estrella, son las otras dos que he visto en mi vida nómade.

Aunque mantengo mi suscripción de Netflix, actualmente para mí, ver una película es un tremendo lujo, pues no tengo demasiado tiempo y cuando lo tengo, aprovecho para conocer, para ir al gym, para hacer Yoga.

El otro día, hace unas 4 noches atrás, decidí comprar una pizza y ver una peli. Y dije: pues esta. Estaba celebrando que cambié de empleo y ahora puedo estar en casa de noche.

En fin… vamos a lo importante que es la reseña!!

Plot and themes addressed

This film is contextualized in a situation experienced by a community in Malawi, in an extremely arid area that is not only in a rural space, but also quite remote.

The production deals with extremely relevant issues that range from more complex and unattainable contexts for the common citizenry, to more personal aspects.

In this way, in a more macro analysis, we can see a community that is a victim of a hungry capitalist system that only wants to get a good slice of a conflict.

We can see the deceitfulness of politics, the threats and the devastating consequences of "putting on the shirt" of a place and a people.

In addition, it can be seen how nature ends up taking the worst part of all this, since in the end it is not only responsible for the results of political management, more or less nefarious, but it has also been dragging the blows received for thousands of years, which led to what today we decided to call: global warming and/or climate change (these concepts are somewhat controversial and do not necessarily refer to the same thing, it depends on the theory).

Trama y temas abordados

Esta película está contextualizada en una situación que vive una comunidad de Malawi, en una zona extremadamente árida que está no solamente en un espacio rural, sino que además se encuentra bastante relegada.

La producción aborda temáticas en extremo relevantes que se mueven desde contextos más complejos e inalcanzables para el común de la ciudadanía, hasta aspectos más personales.

De esta manera, en un análisis más macro, podemos ver a una comunidad que es víctima de un sistema capitalista hambriento que lo único que quiere es sacar una buena tajada de un conflicto.

Se pueden ver los engaños que hay desde la política, las amenazas y las devastadoras consecuencias de “ponerse la camiseta” de un lugar y de un pueblo.

Además, se observa cómo la naturaleza termina llevándose la peor parte de todo esto, ya que al final en ella recaen no solo los resultados de la gestión política, más o menos nefasta, sino que además viene arrastrando los golpes recibidos por miles de años, que la condujeron a lo que hoy decidimos llamar: calentamiento global y/o cambio climático (estos conceptos son algo polémicos y no necesariamente hacen referencia a lo mismo, depende de la teoría).

From a more micro perspective, we can see how the childhood that these boys live is suddenly very different from the one that perhaps many of us know. They long to go to school and can't, in fact many of them instead of going to school have to go to the countryside to help; also the woman still needs the male figure as "protection"; and the father is the one who has the last word.

We also see how education can end up being the key to rescue a society from the worst of famines, but of course, it is not only about the service of education, but how this child uses the tools he has to understand and then create the necessary elements to make an exquisite use of wind energy.

Desde una perspectiva más micro, podemos ver cómo la infancia que viven estos chicos es de pronto muy diferente a la que quizás mucho de nosotros conocemos. Ellos anhelan ir a la escuela y no pueden, de hecho muchos de ellos en vez de ir a la escuela tienen que ir al campo a ayudar; además la mujer sigue necesitando de la figura masculina a modo de “protección”; y el padre es quien tiene la última palabra.

También se ve cómo la educación puede terminar siendo la clave para rescatar a una sociedad de la peor de las hambrunas, pero claro, no solo se trata del servicio de la educación, sino de cómo utiliza este niño, las herramientas que tiene para poder comprender y luego crear los elementos necesarios para hacer un aprovechamiento exquisito de la energía eólica.

The role of education in this story

Although all the above mentioned end up being key factors for the plot, the most important thing is that in the end, thanks to a very awakened boy who received some education, from that arid and hostile environment that threatened to extinguish all life that existed on it, it was possible to make not only a rescue, but also an absolute use of a fundamental resource: the wind.

Aunque todo lo mencionado terminan siendo factores claves para la trama, lo más importante es que al final gracias a un chico muy despierto que recibió algo de educación, de ese entorno árido y hostil que amenazaba con extinguir cuanta vida existiera sobre él, se pudo hacer no solo un rescate, sino también un aprovechamiento absoluto de un recurso fundamental: el viento.

This is a true story

The most beautiful thing of all is that the film is based on a true story. In the end, the best films are always about life itself, and it's that... it even seems unbelievable! But here we even see the resistance of this boy's father to his son implementing something innovative, because it was simply unknown to him.

Here it tells us something else and that is the importance of embracing the options we don't know, and the key to open the mind and listen (along with daring) to new ideas and options.

Esta es una historia real

Lo más hermoso de todo, es que el film se basa en una historia real. Al final las mejores películas son siempre de la vida misma, y es que… hasta parece mentira! Pero aquí incluso vemos la resistencia del padre de este chico a que su hijo implementara algo innovador, porque sencillamente, era desconocido por el.

Aquí nos dice algo más y es la importancia de abrazar las opciones que no conocemos, y la clave de abrir la mente y escuchar (junto con atreverse)s nuevas ideas y opciones.

I highly recommend this production. It is excellent for any age, but the truth is that I would take it to all schools and suggest it to all parents.
