What if one day nature awakens a hidden creature? Troll, a film that invites you to go deeper into natural and urban legends

Hello my dear friends of Movies & TV Shows! I'm so glad to be around for another day. In this installment I'll be bringing you a great movie I saw a few days ago, and it's about TROLL.

What would happen if suddenly the natural spaces of the place where you live start to come to life?

Well, Troll is a movie that in its story, tells us about a legend that refers to some mountain creatures that apparently had life. Basically, it is not that they are beings that live in the mountains, but that they are the mountains themselves.

According to the legend, thousands and thousands of years ago, these mountains were beings that inhabited the world. Huge giants, the size of dinosaurs, that eventually became extinct.

People knew about them, but with the passage of time, few ended up being faithful believers of this legend. Those who believed, respected the mountains for knowing with certainty (even if they had never seen them), that these giants had once lived their lives right there. The unbelievers simply ignored the existence of these beings.

¡Hola mis queridos amigos de Movies & TV Shows! Me alegra mucho estar un día más por aquí. En esta entrega les estaré acercando una genial película que vi hace algunos días, y se trata de TROLL.

¿Qué pasaría si de pronto los espacios naturales del lugar en donde vives empiezan a cobrar vida?

Pues bien, Troll es una película que en su historia, nos cuenta sobre una leyenda que hace referencia a unas criaturas de la montaña que en apariencia tenían vida. Básicamente no es que sean seres que viven en la montaña, sino que son las montañas mismas.

Según la leyenda, hace miles y miles de años atrás, estos cerros eran seres que habitaban el mundo. Gigantes enormes, de la dimensión de los dinosaurios, que terminaron por extinguirse.

La gente sabía sobre ellos, pero con El Paso del tiempo, pocos terminaron por ser fieles creyentes de esta leyenda. Quienes creían, respetaban a las montañas por saber con certeza (aunque jamás los hubiesen visto), que estos gigantes un día habían llevado sus vidas allí mismo. Los incrédulos simplemente ignoraban la existencia de estos seres.

One day an enormous earth movement disconcerted the population, added to the death of a group of citizens who were demonstrating. It was not clear what was happening, if it was an earthquake, a volcanic eruption or what, but the only thing that was known was that the movement persisted, accompanied by a strong and constant sound that did not stop.

It was a Troll. A "mountain" had awakened, and the size of it was so huge that with a single footfall it could destroy more than one house. Its footprints indicated that some unknown creature was haunting the town of Dovre. Thus, the government, the scientific community and the inhabitants were alerted and took up this old legend as a real possibility.

Likewise, the acceptance of the legend as the true cause of this event is thanks to the father of Nora, the paleontologist who had been summoned to work on this case. Her father believed in the legend and had already been in conflict for being a follower and believer in this type of creature.

Un día un enorme movimiento terrestre desconcierta a la población, sumado a la muerte de un grupo de ciudadanos que estaban haciendo una manifestación. No se sabía muy bien lo que estaba pasando, si se trataba de un sismo, una erupción volcánica o qué, pero lo único que se sabía es que el movimiento persistía, acompañado de un fuerte y constante sonido que no cesaba.

Se trataba de un Troll. Una “montaña” había despertado, y el tamaño de la misma era tan enorme que con una sola pisada podía destruir más de una vivienda. Sus huellas daban indicio de que alguna criatura desconocida rondaba la localidad de Dovre. De esta manera el gobierno, la comunidad científica y los habitantes se alertan y retoman esta vieja leyenda como una posibilidad real.

Igualmente, la aceptación de la leyenda como causa verdadera de este evento, es gracias al padre de Nora, la paleontóloga que había sido convocada para trabajar en este caso. Su papá creía en la leyenda y ya había tenido conflictos por mostrarse seguidor y creyente de este tipo de criaturas.

Origin of the production and protagonists

The production is Norwegian, and in this post I have made special mention of the origin because it is a film that reminded me a lot of The Great Flood, another film that deals with natural disasters, only that one was a real case.

The style of the film, the approach, the way of denouement, somehow seemed similar to me and the second one I mentioned (which I have also shared with you), is from Poland. I will be more attentive to these European productions from the east or north of the continent, as I see that they could become a new hobby for me.

Its main protagonist is Ine Marie Wilmann, who portrays paleontologist Nora Tidemann. I have taken this from Wikipedia, there you can read more.

Origen de la producción y protagonistas

La producción es noruega, y en este post he hecho especial mención al origen porque es una película que me hizo acordar mucho a La Gran Inundación, otra película que trata sobre desastres naturales, solo que ese era un caso real.

El estilo de película, el abordaje, la forma de desenlace, de alguna manera me parecieron semejantes y la segunda que mencioné (que también he compartido con ustedes), es de Polonia. Estaré más atenta a estas producciones europeas del este o del norte del continente, ya que veo que podrían convertirse en una nueva afición para mí.

Su principal protagonista es Ine Marie Wilmann, quien representa a la paleontóloga Nora Tidemann. He tomado este dato de Wikipedia, allí pueden leer más.

Se estrenó en Netflix a fines del 2022.

Opinion

I enjoyed this film very much. I found the plot to be highly original and I think it is thought-provoking and thought-provoking for nature lovers.

Dramas that are linked to natural events are my favorite. Be it hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, earthquakes or others, they are themes that I love. In this case we are dealing with what could be considered science fiction, but... even if you think I have a screw loose, I do believe in these creatures.

Just as I believe in aliens, I am sure that in nature there are many more beings than science has been able to categorize.

That is why I love this film, and because my province, Mendoza (Argentina), has huge mountains that I was blessed to visit shortly after watching this film.

As I watched them I wondered if they have ever had life, or if perhaps in the darkness of every night they manifest themselves in some way, without the scientists thirsty for news being able to detect them.

Disfruté mucho esta película. El argumento me pareció sumamente original y creo que a los amantes de la naturaleza nos invita a pensar y debatir.

Los dramas que se vinculan con hechos naturales son mis preferidos. Sean huracanes, tsunamis, inundaciones, terremotos u otros, son temas que me encantan. En este caso estamos frente a lo que podría considerarse ciencia ficción, pero… aunque crean que se me ha saltado un tornillo, yo sí creo en estas criaturas.

Así como creo en los extraterrestres, estoy segura de que en la naturaleza hay muchos más seres de los que la ciencia ha sido capaz de categorizar.

Por ello esta película me encanta, y porque mi provincia, Mendoza (Argentina), cuenta con enormes montañas que tuve la bendición de visitar poco después de ver este film.

Cuando las observaba me preguntaba si alguna vez habrán tenido vida, o si quizás en la oscuridad de cada noche se manifiestan de alguna manera, sin que los científicos sedientos de novedades puedan detectarlas.
