"Tracks" (2013): A story of courage, confidence and persistence

Hello my dear friends of Hive and on this occasion, good morning to my friends of Movies & TV Shows, today I come to tell you an incredible story, full of inspiration and courage. It is the story of Robyn Davidson, a traveler who in 1977, at the age of 27, undertook a 6 month journey through the Australian desert, alone.

I had been wanting to see this film for years, but it had been erased from my mind. Although I have on my list other productions with the theme solotraveler as "Comer, rezar, amar ", "Alma Salvaje " or "Nomadland "; Tracks (also known as "El viaje de tu vida") in Spanish, had escaped from me, hehehe.

Hola mis queridos amigos de Hive y en esta ocasión, buen día a mis amigos de Movies & TV Shows, hoy vengo a contarles una historia increíble, repleta de inspiración y coraje. Se trata de la historia de Robyn Davidson, una viajera que en el año 1977, con 27 años, emprendió una travesía de 6 meses por el desierto de Australia, sola.

Llevaba años queriendo ver esta película, pero se había borrado de mi mente. Aunque tengo en mi lista otras producciones con la temática solotraveler como “Comer, rezar, amar”, “Alma Salvaje” o “Nomadland”; Tracks (también conocida como “El viaje de tu vida”) en español, se había escapado de mi, jejej.

But a few months ago I discovered it again, and that's when I decided to wait for the right moment to watch it. I had to be inspired, in peace, alone. I had to enjoy it as much as the other movies I mentioned. And that moment fortunately came.

One Friday night I set out to see "Tracks", the production starring Australian Mia Wasikowska, who comes to life as Robyn Davidson herself, the real protagonist of this whole story. The film is based on the book of the same name, written by Robyn after her trip.

Pero hace unos meses la descubrí nuevamente, y fue entonces cuando decidí esperar al momento propicio para verla. Tenía que estar inspirada, en paz, sola. Tenía que disfrutarla tanto como a las otras películas que mencioné. Y ese momento afortunadamente llegó.

Una noche de viernes me dispuse a ver “Tracks”, la producción protagonizada por la australiana Mia Wasikowska, que viene a dar vida a la mismísima Robyn Davidson, la verdadera protagonista de toda esta historia. La película está basada en el libro con el mismo nombre, escrito por Robyn tras su viaje.

Plot

Basically the story is about a young girl who has not only the desire but the decision to go on a 6 month journey through the Australian desert, alone, in the year 1977. Alone as a human being, because in fact she is accompanied by her dog and needs 3 camels to carry her belongings.

Robyn starts working in canteens and camel stalls near the starting point practically for free, with the intention of getting a place to sleep and with the promise that as pay, she will be given some camels.

In the process, Robyn discovers honesty and its opposite as she is guided by the word of those who employ her and promise her in return what she needs.

Trama

Básicamente la historia trata de una chica joven que tiene no solo el deseo sino la decisión de realizar un viaje de 6 meses por el desierto de Australia, sola, en el año 1977. Sola como ser humano, porque en verdad la acompaña su perra y necesita 3 camellos para que puedan cargar sus pertenencias.

Robyn empieza a trabajar en cantinas y puestos de camellos cercanos al punto de partida prácticamente gratis, con la intención de conseguir dónde dormir y con la promesa de que como paga, le darán algunos camellos.

En este proceso, Robyn descubre la honestidad y su opuesto al dejarse guiar por la palabra de quienes la emplean y le prometen a cambio lo que ella necesita.

Characteristics of the protagonist

I think that this time it is essential to make a special mention to this point, because in every story where we have lonely travelers, we are facing a personality really out of the ordinary.

Although fortunately more and more people are encouraged to travel alone, especially women (who have always been judged for not being "accompanied by a man", at least until not so many years ago), there is still some resistance, fear and prejudice towards this activity.

Robyn represents a large group of solo travelers (with whom I myself feel identified). In general there are the solo travelers who love to socialize and hang out with their new friends in a permanent "noise", this has great learning and personal enrichment; and there are the travelers who enjoy being really alone, in the company of their own essence and the place where they are at that moment, animals as company are welcome, as well as some other traveler with whom one crosses paths in a "casual" way, no permanent company. Robyn is part of the latter group, and the actress represents that personality extremely well (of course there are nuances, not everything is so "sharp", but you could talk about these two groups quietly).

Creo que esta vez es fundamental hacer una especial mención a este punto, pues en toda historia en donde tenemos a viajeros solitarios, estamos ante una personalidad realmente fuera de lo común.

Aunque afortunadamente cada vez somos más las personas que nos animamos a emprender viajes solas, en especial las mujeres (que siempre hemos sido juzgadas por no andar “acompañadas de un hombre”, al menos hasta hace no tantos años), igualmente hay cierta resistencia, temor y prejuicios para con esta actividad.

Robyn representa a un gran grupo de viajeros solitarios (con el que yo misma me siento identificada). En general están los viajeros solos que aman socializar y salir con sus nuevos amigos en un “ruido” permanente, esto tiene grandes aprendizajes y enriquecimiento personal; y están los viajeros que disfrutan de estar realmente solos, en compañía de su propia esencia y del lugar en el que se encuentren en ese momento, animales como compañía son bienvenidos, como algún que otro viajante con el que uno se cruza de manera “casual”, nada de compañías permanentes. Robyn es parte de este último grupo, y la actriz representa extremadamente bien esa personalidad (claro que hay matices, no todo es tan “tajante”, pero podría hablarse de estos dos grupos tranquilamente).

Robyn is a woman who finds her calm in nature itself and particularly in the desert. She is attracted by its extreme climate, by its hot days and by its strong, high temperature winds. And she has a kind of very strong inner desire, as if it were a calling, to cross the desert from the center of Australia to the sea. She wants to do it on foot and she wants to do it alone.

So she starts working hard to achieve it, without caring if it generates any extra money or any added gain. Her enrichment, her achievement, lies in her ability to make the journey and she only needs the camels, water, food, a couple of clothes and some money to fall back on in case she needs it. Robyn knows that what she is about to undertake could put her life at risk.

Robyn, as shown in the film, is not very fond of large groups, she does not like the noise of permanent words in a conversation, she does not enjoy the trivial day to day conversations. She is focused on silence, on nature, and avoids constant exposure as well as the fact that she is being chased to find out about her. It would seem that she is an antisocial or ungrateful person, but no, she is a solitary person who finds immensity in her contact with the environment, in movement and in the challenges that life invites her to go through.

Robyn es una mujer que encuentra su calma en la misma naturaleza y particularmente en el desierto. Se siente atraída por su clima extremo, por sus días cálidos y por sus vientos fuertes y de alta temperatura. Y tiene ujna especie de deseo interno muy fuerte, como si se tratase de un llamado, de atravesar el desierto desde el centro de Australia hasta llegar al mar. Quiere hacerlo caminando y quiere hacerlo sola.

Para ello empieza a trabajar arduamente en pos de conseguirlo, sin importarle si genera algún tipo de dinero extra o alguna ganancia añadida. Su enriquecimiento, su logro, está en la capacidad d elevar a cabo tal travesía y solo necesita a los camellos, agua, comida, un par de vestimentas y algo de dinero al que recurrir en caso de que lo necesite. Robyn sabe que lo que va a emprender, podría poner en riesgo su vida.

Robyn, como se muestra en la película, no es muy amante de los grandes grupos, no le gusta el ruido de las palabras permanentes en una conversación, no disfruta de las conversaciones triviales del día a día. Ella está enfocada en el silencio, en la naturaleza, y evita la exposición constante como también el hecho de que la están persiguiendo para saber de ella. Pareciera que se trata de una persona antisocial o desagradecida, pero no, es una persona solitaria que encuentra la inmensidad en su contacto con el entorno, en el movimiento y en los desafíos que la vida la invita a transitar.

Values involved and opinion

This is an excellent movie to start thinking about what is possible. Many times when one has a dream that seems "too big" for us, we let it go, as if it were a utopia. Well I think this production and this true story, not necessarily a source of motivation for a travel lover, but for anyone with a dream that feels too challenging to make it real, this film will be food for the mind and spirit.

The story tells us about a woman who in real life, in the year 1977, sets out on an adventure with almost no money, to a practically lifeless place, and does it alone. In a context in which women were just beginning to unfold their place in the world, and considering that to this day it is still difficult in some places and cultures to obtain the respect and freedom we deserve.

Valores que entran en juego y opinión

Es una película excelente para empezar a pensar en lo posible. Muchas veces cuando uno tiene un sueño que parece “demasiado grande” para nosotros, lo dejamos ir, como si se tratase de una utopía. Pues creo que esta producción y esta historia real, no necesariamente es fuente de motivación para un amante de los viajes, sino que para cualquier persona con un sueño que sienta muy desafiante para hacerlo real, este film será un alimento para la mente y el espíritu.

La historia nos habla de una mujer que en la vida real, en el año 1977, emprende una aventura con casi nada de dinero, a un lugar prácticamente sin vida, y lo hace sola. En un contexto en el que la mujer recién empezaba a desplegar su lugar en el mundo, y considerando que hasta el día de hoy cuesta en algunos espacios y culturas, obtener el respeto y la libertad que merecemos.

They show how there are even men who say things to her, or how they start calling her the "camel woman, the woman of the camels", some local people and even tourists.

She has to accept to be photographed with certain frequency because that is the contract she signs with National Geographic magazine, who decides, at her request and through an acquaintance of a friend of hers (without her knowledge and having asked her not to talk to anyone) to sponsor her trip.

She also has to accept that "a woman cannot break the law", so she cannot kill an animal for food, nor can she walk a sacred area without the company of a man or one of the elders.

Muestran cómo incluso hay hombres que le dicen cosas, o cómo empiezan a llamarla la “camellera, la mujer de los camellos”, algunas personas de la zona e incluso turistas.

Tiene que aceptar ser fotografiada con cierta frecuencia porque ese es el contrato que firma con la revista National Geographic, quien decide, a pedido de ella y por un conocido de una amiga de ella (sin que ella sepa y ella habiéndole pedido que no hablara con nadie) patrocinar su viaje.

También tiene que aceptar que “una mujer no puede romper la ley”, por lo que no puede matar a un animal para comer, ni tampoco puede caminar un área sagrada sin la compañía de un hombre o de uno de los ancianos.

In all that context Robyn keeps moving forward, so the story tells us about persistence, determination and constancy, and shows us how even what seems possible is not, if we are convinced that we are going to achieve it.

It also addresses the importance of a positive attitude towards life, because although everyone told her that she could die, to go with someone else, I don't think Robyn ever considers the possibility of her death on that journey. At least that's what she implies. That is, she clearly shows that she is aware of the risks, but in her vision was to reach the sea, and she always pointed to that. How he would solve every obstacle to reach the sea. And each thing that happens to him on the way, simply becomes a challenge that he must overcome to achieve his goal.

She goes without fear, she goes and makes that journey because her soul feels it and that is all she needs to be certain that everything will work out.

Although these words may seem dreamy and somewhat utopian or even immature, it is beautiful to see how these people who "daydream" and walk towards their dreams, end up being the great characters of the story, they are the ones who turn things around, they are the leaders who show others that it is possible, and I believe that this is how life should be approached.

En todo ese contexto Robyn sigue avanzando, por lo que la historia nos habla de persistencia, determinación y constancia, y nos muestra cómo hasta lo que parece posible no lo es, si estamos convencidos de que lo vamos a alcanzar.

También se aborda la importancia de una actitud positiva ante la vida, ya que aunque todo el mundo le decía que podía morir, que fuese con alguien más, creo que Robyn jamás se plantea la posibilidad de su muerte en aquella travesía. Al menos eso da a entender. Es decir, claramente muestra que es consciente de los riesgos, pero en su visión estaba llegar al mar, y siempre apuntaba a eso. A cómo solucionaría cada obstáculo para llegar al mar. Y cada cosa que le ocurre en el camino, sencillamente se convierte en un desafío que debe superar para cumplir su objetivo.

Ella va sin miedo, ella va y hace ese viaje porque lo siente su alma y eso es todo lo que necesita para tener la certeza de que todo saldrá bien.

Aunque estas palabras puedan parecer de ensueño y algo utópicas o inmaduras incluso, es hermoso ver cómo estas personas que “sueñan despiertas” y que caminan hacia sus sueños, terminan siendo los grandes personajes de la historia, son quienes dan un giro, son los líderes que muestran a otros que sí es posible, y creo que así debe abordarse la vida.
