One of the most compelling series I saw in 2023: Fatal Seduction, an incredible South African production

Well, the topic of invisible abuse in the cyber world was uncovered and it's very good, since these are things that happen but that we often ignore. I found out about this magnificent production, Fatal Seduction, when its season 1 part 2 was about to come out, so I waited until I could see them both to bring it to Hive and Movies & TV Shows especially. This South African series has episodes that run about 40 minutes each, meaning they are quite short, which predisposes one to watch them more easily.

Bueno, se destapó el tema del abuso invisible en el mundo cibernético y está muy bueno, ya que son cosas que pasan pero que muchas veces obviamos. Me enteré de la existencia de est magnífica producción, Seducción Fatal, cuando su temporada 1 segunda parte estaba a punto de salir, así que esperé a poder verlas a ambas para traerla a Hive y a Movies & TV Shows en especial. Por cierto, espero que estén teniendo un hermoso día mis hivers.

Esta serie sudafricana cuenta con episodios que duran unos 40 minutos cada uno, es decir que son bastante cortos, lo que predispone a que uno los vea con mayor facilidad.

At the end of the first part, the story ends up generating doubts about the true feelings of Jacob, the apparent stalker of the series. And I love how it ends, because this doubt it leaves the viewer with, is the same doubt that people who end up dating manipulative men or women have: is he good or not? Was he wrong or was it intentional? Is his speech real?

However, the second part comes to turn the story around, presenting a scenario that I doubt many viewers had in mind when watching the series (or maybe they did and I was one of the few who didn't, hehe). I loved that twist between the different installments.

In this series, which in itself talks about manipulation because one of its main characters in fiction is dedicated to this subject, you can see several stages that are part of relationships of this nature. Let's see some of them.

Al final de la primera parte, la historia termina generando dudas sobre los verdaderos sentimientos de Jacob, el aparente acosador de la serie. Y me encanta cómo termina, porque esta duda que le deja al espectador, es la misma duda que se plantean las personas que terminan saliendo con hombres o mujeres manipuladores: ¿es bueno o no? ¿Se equivocó o fue intencional? ¿Su discurso es real?

Sin embargo, la segunda parte nos viene a dar vuelta la historia, presentando un escenario que dudo que muchos espectadores hayan tenido en cuenta al momento de ver la serie (o quizás si y fui yo una de las pocas que no, jeje). Me encantó ese giro entre las diferentes entregas.

En esta serie, que en sí habla de la manipulación porque justamente una de sus protagonistas en la ficción se dedica a este tema, se pueden ver varias etapas que forman parte de relaciones de esta naturaleza. Veamos algunas.

Honeymoon

It is not about a honeymoon, but about an irresistible seduction. It is about a woman, married, with a teenage daughter, who is having a terrible time with her husband, who shows all the signs of cheating on her. Nandi, the woman, goes away for a weekend with her friend and meets a man, much younger than her. In the face of the uneasiness she feels because everything indicates that her marriage is a failure added to her husband's mistreatment, she joins the seduction of this boy, who turns out to be her student (she does not know this at first). Nandi was working on the issue of abuse and femicide in South Africa.

Jacob is the most loving thing in the world, and Nandi falls in love with him, with his ability to accompany her, to listen to her, to understand her. Nandi begins to think seriously about divorce, because her marriage gives her absolutely nothing that can compare to what Jacob has for her. But...

Luna de miel

No es que se trae de una luna de miel, sino de una seducción irresistible. Se trata de que una mujer, casada, con una hija adolescente, pasa un momento espantoso con su marido, que presenta todas las señales de estar engañándola. Nandi, la mujer, se va un fin de semana con su amiga y conoce a un hombre, bastante más joven que ella. Jacob es lo más amoroso del mundo, y Nandi cae perdida ante el, ante su capacidad de acompañarla, de escucharla, de entenderla. Nandi empieza a pensar seriamente en su divorcio, porque su matrimonio no le brinda absolutamente nada que pueda compararse con lo que Jacob tiene para ella. Pero…

Mask falls off

Jacob begins to pursue her, to spy on her, he gets involved with her daughter in a virtual way to obtain information, he sends her gifts when she is with her family, he introduces himself to her family with excuses; and in that way Nandi begins to notice in Jacob an attitude not only invasive, but also dangerous, because he is not giving her the time nor the space to finish with her husband, as Jacob asks her, taking into account that they have been together for more than 20 years.

On top of this, Jacob starts a relationship with Nandi's daughter. The teenager, too, is confused.

Reality

The issue here is that this, while it can happen in real life no doubt, is tied to a criminal case in which Jacob's father had been convicted (SPOILER ALERT!!!) of a murder he had apparently committed but by the end of the season they confirm that Nandi's friend Brenda (who "commits suicide" at the beginning of the season) had given false testimony, so Jacob's father was innocent.

Jacob wanted revenge for his father's conviction and subsequent -also- suicide, so he had approached Brenda, Leonard (the judge who found his dad guilty and Nandi's husband) and Nandi, to take revenge for his father's death.

In the end Jacob confesses much of what he did to Nandi, with the intention of getting her back, assuring that he loves her, but Nandi leaves, and Jacob is left saying words of a manipulator.

Realidad

El tema aquí es que esto, aunque puede pasar en la vida real sin duda alguna, está ligado a un caso penal en el que al padre de Jacob lo habían condenado (¡¡ALERTA SPOILER!!) por un asesinato que aparentemente había cometido pero que al final de la temporada confirman que la amiga de Nandi, Brenda (quien se “suicida” al principio de la temporada) había dado un testimonio en falso, por lo que el padre de Jacob era inocente.

Jacob quería vengarse por la condena de su padre y su posterior -también- suicidio, por lo que se había acercado a Brenda, Leonard (juez que declaró culpable a su papá y esposo de Nandi) y Nandi, para cobrarse la muerte de su padre.

I liked this part because I think it has even fooled the audience... Will Jacob really fall in love with Nandi? This is a bit of a question that the series leaves open in this first installment.

The second part, however, involves secrets of Nandi's family where we are presented with an unexpected story that involves Leonard's brother in this whole situation.

Me gustó esta parte porque creo que engaña ha incluso a la audiencia… ¿Será que Jacob en verdad se enamoró de Nandi? Esta es un poco la pregunta que deja abierta la serie en esta primera entrega.

Sin embargo la segunda parte, involucra secretos de la familia de Nandi en donde se nos presenta una historia poco esperable, que involucra al hermano de Leonard en toda esta situación.

Deception and misrepresentation

In this series, we see that there is a kind of web of lies everywhere, from the base of the structure of the protagonist family towards its different links, exposing a sick dynamic in which we see this teenager trying to understand what is going on, taking positions towards her family members, and trying to live her life as a teenager.

Engaño y falsedad

En esta serie, se observa que hay una especie de red de mentiras por todos lados, desde la base de la estructura de la familia protagonista hacia sus diferentes vínculos, exponiendo una dinámica enfermiza en la que vemos a esta adolescente intentando comprender lo que ocurre, tomar posturas para con los miembros de su familia, e intentando vivir su vida de adolescente.

Opinion

I loved it, I give it a score of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 because it is original, catching, I like that its episodes are short, I like that the series is direct in its scenes, I like the spontaneity, the reality, I like that it touches topics that many productions still do not dare to mention such as homosexuality, relationships with people quite bigger or smaller than the other person, invisible abuse and other topics that you will see in Fatal Seduction.

Also, I think that if this production is analyzed by a psychologist, it can speak much more, I fall short with my knowledge on the subject, and because I have just been reading about this is that I could analyze the series the way I did, I think it is very rich and with some theoretical material in mind, it can be a great teaching resource for teenagers, since watching it and explaining it to someone who is growing up, could even prevent situations like this from happening in real life.

Me encantó, le doy una puntuación de ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 porque es original, atrapante, me gusta que sus episodios sean cortos, me gusta que la serie sea directa en sus escenas, me gusta la espontaneidad, la realidad, me gusta que se toquen temas que muchas producciones todavía no se atreven a mencionar como homosexualidad, relaciones con personas bastante más grandes o más chicas que la otra persona, abuso invisible y otros temas que verán en Seducción Fatal.

Además, creo que si esta producción es analizada por un psicólogo, puede hablar mucho más, yo me quedo corta con mi conocimiento sobre el tema, y porque justo he estado leyendo sobre esto es que pude analizar a la serie de la manera que lo hice, creo que es muy rica y con algo de material teórico en mente, puede ser un gran recurso de enseñanza para adolescentes, ya que verla y explicarla a alguien que está creciendo, podría hasta prevenir de que pasen situaciones así en la vida real.
