This time I will share my opinion about the movie Good Luck, Big Leo, a production starring the talented Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack, an actor who promises remarkable recognition.

Although this is a very low-resource and somewhat monotonous film, I think its message is quite interesting.

Mis queridos amigos de Hive y de Movies and TV Shows, es un placer estar con ustedes aquí, una vez más.

En esta oportunidad compartiré mi opinión sobre la película Buena suerte, Leo Grande, una producción protagonizada por la talentosa Emma Thompson y Daryl McCormack, un actor que promete notable reconocimiento.

Aunque esta es una película de bajísimo recurso y algo monótona, creo que su mensaje es bien interesante.

Plot

The story tells of an elderly widowed woman who realizes that her life has been extremely simple and with very little fun on top of it. Under the structures and routine of life, Nancy, a very traditional teacher, had let her life pass her by, not realizing that she had not opened the doors to the possibility of different experiences.

This leads her to contact a guy who provides companionship services, including different ways of spending time with him. Nancy, in her own structure, approaches him with a list of goals to achieve, as if it were a record to beat, and little by little, she realizes that it doesn't work that way.

The film shows different encounters in which Nancy loosens up more and more, as she gets to know herself and her body.

Nancy doesn't quite know how these encounters work, and even gets confused with Leo, in different ways, and in fact projects part of her personal history onto him, trying to understand him, compare him, guide him.

Trama

La historia nos habla de una mujer de edad avanzada que ha enviudado y que se da cuenta que su vida ha sido extremadamente sencilla y con muy poca diversión encima. Bajo las estructuras y la rutina de la vida, Nancy, una profesora sumamente tradicional, había dejado pasar su vida, sin darse cuenta que no había abierto las puertas a la posibilidad de vivir diferentes experiencias.

Esto la lleva a contactar a un chico que brinda servicios de compañía, en donde se incluyen diferentes formas de pasar el tiempo con él. Nancy, en su propia estructura, se acerca a él con un listado de objetivos a alcanzar, como si se tratara de un récord a batir, y poco a poco, se va dando cuenta de que la cosa no funciona así.

En la película se muestran diferentes encuentros en los cuales Nancy se va soltando cada vez más, a medida que ella misma se va conociendo, tanto a ella como a su cuerpo.

Nancy no sabe bien cómo funcionan estos encuentros, e incluso se confunde con Leo, de diferentes maneras, y de hecho proyecta parte de su historia personal en él, intentando comprenderlo, compararlo, guiarlo.

Opinion

Well, it's a hyper-simple film in terms of set design and cast, as 90% of the production takes place in one room and we have two main characters with a few supporting actors.

However, it is a very interesting way of showing the reality of many elderly women, who mainly due to generational issues that include religion and tradition, have been absorbed by a life in which the family mandate was the axis on which their day to day life revolved, with basically no room for any kind of enjoyment.

Not only is this not allowing pleasure in its different forms something very common in women who are currently 55 years old and older, but also, if any of them dared to experiment something different, they were surely judged and punished by their peers and by their own elders.

Fortunately, nowadays there is much more openness to women's enjoyment in different aspects (I am not referring exclusively to the sexual plane), and luckily Nancy's character can be seen today in real life, as many women are allowing themselves to enjoy different experiences, no matter how old they are.

Opinión

Bueno, es una película híper sencilla en cuanto a escenografía y elenco, pues el 90% de la producción transcurre en una habitación y tenemos a dos protagonistas con unos pocos actores secundarios.

Sin embargo, es una manera bien interesante de mostrar la realidad de muchas mujeres de la tercera edad, que principalmente por temas generacionales que incluyen la religión y la tradición, han sido absorbidas por una vida en la que el mandato familiar era el eje en el que giraba su día a día, sin dar lugar básicamente a ningún tipo de disfrute.

Esto de no permitirse el placer en sus diferentes formas, no solamente es algo muy común en las mujeres que actualmente tienen entre 55 años y más, sino que además, si alguna se atrevió a experimentar algo diferente, de seguro fue juzgada y castigada por sus pares y por sus propios mayores.

En estos tiempos afortunadamente hay mucha más apertura al goce de la mujer en diferentes aspectos (no me refiero exclusivamente al plano sexual), y por suerte el personaje de Nancy, puede verse hoy en día en la vida real, ya que muchas mujeres están permitiéndose disfrutar de diferentes experiencias, sin importar la edad que tengan.

The most beautiful image of the film for me, is when it ends (SPOILER ALERT!!), as Nancy looks at herself in the mirror naked, and in her gaze is a deep expression of love and acceptance.

La imagen más bonita de la película para mí, es cuando termina (ALERTA SPOILER!!), ya que Nancy se mira al espejo desnuda, y en su mirada hay una profunda expresión de amor y aceptación.

What values do we see here?

Well I was mentioning some of this, like acceptance, enjoyment, daring, but in addition we see the role of Leo, a guy who has also learned to accept his job, what to do for a living, and most importantly he has accepted how much he enjoys doing that.

We also see forgiveness and we see how there are wounds in people that can stay with them for a long time, becoming key points to twist someone and make them walk away from a situation forever.

We see the importance of respect for privacy and also how important it is to share without judging the life of another person, first because we do not know what is behind it, and second because about tastes there is nothing written, as we say in Argentina, each person can be attracted to different people, activities, pleasures, and that... is fine.

¿Qué valores vemos aquí?

Pues estuve mencionando algo de esto, como la aceptación, el disfrute, el atreverse, pero además vemos el papel de Leo, un chico que también ha aprendido a aceptar su trabajo, lo que hacer para ganarse la vida, y lo más importante es que ha aceptado cuánto le gusta hacer eso.

Vemos también el perdón y vemos cómo hay heridas en las personas que pueden acompañarlas durante mucho tiempo, convirtiéndose en puntos clave para torcer a alguien y hacerlo alejarse para siempre de una situación.

Vemos la importancia del respeto por la privacidad y también lo importante que es compartir sin juzgar la vida de otra persona, primero porque no sabemos qué hay detrás de ella, y segundo porque sobre gustos no hay nada escrito, como decimos en Argentina, cada persona puede sentirse atraída por diferentes personas, actividades, placeres, y eso… está bien.

Of course, if you like to delve into thoughts and different ways of looking at life, this movie is especially for you. If you are a woman it can help you a lot to connect with feelings, emotions and tastes (for men it can be very interesting to get to know women better).

If you like to discuss about respect, activities, tastes, it is also a good option for you.

You will not find action here, nor special effects, nor adventure, so if you are more into action and drama movies, with complex plots, it is possible that this production will bore you.

Claro que sí, si te gusta adentrarte en pensamientos y diferentes maneras de ver la vida, esta película es especial para vos. Si sos mujer te puede ayudar mucho a conectar con sentimientos, emociones y gustos (para los hombres puede ser muy interesante para conocer más a las mujeres).

Si te gusta debatir sobre respeto, actividades, gustos, es también una buena opción para vos.

No encontrarás acción por aquí, ni efectos especiales, ni aventura, por lo que si sos más de las películas de acción y drama, con tramas complejas, es posible que esta producción te aburra.
