I wasn't going to watch "Sound of Freedom" until the media attacked it
This film likely would have gone by completely unnoticed by me because outside of just mindlessly scrolling through Netflix and watching random crap I don't really go out of my way to see anything that is released these days. I did go and see Maverick in theaters because Top Gun was such a huge part of my childhood but other than that I haven't been to cinemas for than a couple of times in the past decade.
Once I saw that the usual media outlets like CNN and the Washington Post were attacking this movie for being QAnon conspiracy theory, I dug a bit deeper into it and now I am likely going to go and see it for no other reason than to help let CNN et. al. that their opinion has the opposite effect on people that they might hope.

The film is about child trafficking and how that is really bad. It follows a US agent that travels the world rescuing children from this terrible ring of criminals so I found it just as alarming as anyone else that the media would go out of their way to attempt to suggest that something like this either doesn't exist or isn't bad. They didn't use those words but I was curious as to why major networks and news outlets would do something like this. As it turns out the film was promoted and funded by Christian and other conservative groups so I think the media's decision to go after this film was based on that alone, rather than the actual substance of the film. That is what I have been reading anyway and it isn't much a surprise. I can't really understand why it is that a network would target anything Christian and attempt to smear it, but in this case their attempts have backfired badly.
Now hundreds of thousands if not millions of people like me who otherwise wouldn't ever have even heard of this movie are flocking out to see it. Apparently the movie is pretty good as well and not just some sort of Christian propaganda, which is something I also do not like to see in movies. From what I have read the film isn't really "selling" you anything nor is it trying to convert anyone to Christianity, it is simply exposing the horrors of child human trafficking and honestly, why would anyone have a problem with exposing that?
The left vs. right thing is basically out of control in USA and I'm just happy that I don't live in a State that has many of those battles going on. We are a 50/50 mix here in North Carolina for the most part and while my area is predominantly conservative, it's not like we are at war with the liberals that live here.
Even though that battle really does exist in most of the USA, why on Earth can we not come together on something here and there, something that we can all agree on regardless of the side of the political fence that we sit on, something like, i dunno, that kidnapping children and selling them into slavery is a BAD thing?
The film cost around $15 million to make and already has topped $50 million at the box office. I'll be giving them $12 more in the next few days just to help stick it to the powers that be. I am seriously alarmed at the great lengths that the media will go to in their tribal warfare. This is just ridiculous.
Have you seen it? Is it worth seeing? I'm not really a movie theater guy so I might just stream it at some point but is the controversy really worth it? The conspiracy theorist in me also thinks that the controversy might have actually been initiated by the film's creators. It was free publicity after all.
I do not see Mel Gibson as that kind of person.

I have not seen it yet, but I might get to the theater before it disappears. Like you, I seldom go see a movie. Several friends have seen it and said it was very good, although some said it moved a bit slowly. I probably wouldn't notice; I move slowly, too.
Shoe reviewed it. Her take is basically that it's an OK movie with irrational critics. Imagine if people brought up Tom Cruise's Scientology as proof Top Gun was a dog whistle for religion and you have a decent parallel to the so-called "Q-Anon" ties here.
I've never heard fo this person but that does seem like a pretty good analysis of the entire thing. I just can't understand why people would so vehemently attack a film that is mostly about something that I think we can all agree with: Human trafficking is not a good thing.
And it's not like this movie apparently exceeded Hollywood standards of embellishing real events for drama. Literally every "based on a true story" film leans into action and intrigue.
I read that the film was made in 2019 and was shelved due to covid. That does not make so much sense either as why wait 4 years to release it? I would not normally watch this due to the topic and still not sure to be honest. This should bring people together and not alienate them as this is serious shit going on that needs to be stopped.

I'm not sure about that. When the media trashes something, our attention goes to it. If they really wanted us to ignore the movie, the media would ignore the movie. If the government/media really wanted to censor it, it wouldn't be in the theaters. Some are saying that the movie is a distraction from the real perps of child trafficking, which are, in large part, members of the US government. This is not exposed in that movie. I haven't seen it.
I haven't watched it yet either. It is leaving theaters so I guess my promise to go and see it was an idle one.
as far as side show distractions are concerned I really enjoyed how the government started talking about fricken aliens and hinted that they are real and the people were completely disinterested.
We are wising up to them. Either that, or we have become inured to threats. Maybe both, leaving fewer of us who would take them seriously. I feel like we are on the edge of a knife - will they try to get us with fear of nukes, or fear of aliens? I wonder if fear of viruses would even work again. Interesting!!!
I'd like to believe that fear of viruses was taken too far with Covid and now most of the global population will not tolerate that level of tyranny ever again. The damage that the government did to their trustworthiness with that fiasco was really the only thing I needed to push me over the edge. I was already not a fan of government before that, but what little semblance I had in faith in government outside of my local area was completely squashed with the way it was handled.
They truly cried wolf on that and now I am just going to ignore anything they say in the future.... even if aliens are involved.
Good plan. I'm the same. However, I know a great many liberals who still think all the measures were necessary, that anyone who doesn't think so doesn't believe in science and does believe in Q. Their thought processes regarding covid and conservatives have been disabled. I got into an argument with one of them at a small gathering at my house recently. I pointed out that the NYTimes, her favorite news source, was little more than a propaganda rag for her party. An article about conservatives supporting drilling for fossil fuels set us off. She was enraged that conservatives still want to drill. I reminded her that Obama drilled more than any other recent president, so that the drilling had nothing to do with conservatives, and that the article was casting false aspersions on conservatives. (I read that paper everyday, but I do it to keep up on the daily lies) She could not see it. Then we got into covid. I said that we must remember that covid didn't traumatize our kids, force our elderly to die alone, or close any businesses. Covid policy did that. She saw no other way. When we got to the number of deaths, and I demonstrated how those had been grossly inflated, another person there supported me.
If we want more of us to make like you and me, we have to speak up, and now. You're down there in a county where nearly everyone agrees with you. I'm in a county that went along with ALL the BS, even though it's a conservative county.
Good on you. Yeah, I am fortunate to be in a like-minded county and that is a rather massive part of why I enjoy living here. Basically everywhere in North Carolina aside from Raleigh, Charlotte, and Ashville are majority conservative but the better thing is even though we have this divide, things don't get too heated or worse, violent over political disagreements.
I think it is amazing that you were able to have a civil conversation with your friend at a house party. Hopefully there is no long-standing feud between you and her because of this. I too have tried to have discussions with a liberal friend about various things and there is just no changing their minds no matter how much evidence you put in front of them.
I can't stand it when someone who disagrees with you immediately takes it to an indefensible extreme without any evidence at all.
Tthey assume. Everything they believe is at the level of assumption, nothing verifiable, everything said by their political party is taken as true on faith. Been that way since Trump was elected. I think letting him win that election was strategic: he came in very handy for further brainwashing of both the left and the right. And he knows it, is playing his assigned part.
Yes, we are still more than civil to each other. I was a bit surprised myself. This is why I think it's a good time to stick my neck out - for some reason, some libs are less stalwart about Democrat pronouncements at this moment, are better able to see, or re-consider, all the malarkey. I think we can see this on the right too. The lines are getting blurry, opportunities opening up.
I know a few liberals that I can have calm discussions with and this is enjoyable, especially when they don't just agree with everything their party of choice says without even really having their own thoughts and opinions about it.
Many of my liberal friends are kind of surprised when I break ranks on certain issues like abortion and the military but that is just because they assume that since I am not a liberal that I must be an Ultra-MAGA. I also know a few liberals out there that are not full on Democrats and are truly independent. These are the people I enjoy speaking with the most because you can tell that they have formed their own ideals and didn't let social media dictate what they are going to think.
Then I have another liberal friend who when I told her a true story of a relative of mine who is the "L" in LGBT and how she told me that most of the L's and G's don't want anything to do with any of the letters that come after B and how they don't really want the B's affiliated with them either. This liberal friend of mine, without hearing anything else called my relative a cunt for thinking that way. That was her immediate response, without even asking and questions she resorted to saying something awful about someone she knows nothing about. These people are the worst and it doesn't matter if they are right or left leaning. They are zombies.
Yes, most of the liberals I know, including my entire family-of-origin except for me, are zombies. They assume I am far right Q ultra MAGA if I say anything negative about Biden, for instance. Definitely have lost all capacity for reason when it comes to politics, Ukraine, and covid. When I remarked that children are being medically altered against their parents' wishes, they called me a conspiracy theorist. They have no idea what is going on in the world, live in tiny little prisons that they call freedom. And yes, like with your friend, if I continue to try to discuss pretty much anything with them, they will get very nasty, as if I am the enemy. Of course, their president (not mine) told them I was a domestic terrorist not long ago, and they weirdly worship him. So, we have superficial relationships and don't discuss anything of value. I limit the amount of time I spend with them. As for conservative zombies, many of those downright worship Trump, who is probably just another player in the show that is being put on for us, keeping us believing that a different person at the helm will set this ship aright. Not gonna happen. We are in for it now. Hang on! (spoken like a true conspiracy theorist)

The reason that all the media is doing all they can to put this movie down is that the elite cannot stop the movie from being shown. (without seriously tipping their hand)
What this movie doesn't show is that the child trafficking starts at the top.

Last movie I saw in the theatre was Smurfs. Like 10 years ago? I made a point of seeing this partly because it was suppressed and mostly because it seemed like a good movie from the trailer and the critics and movie-goers. Also, they have the pay-it-forward access that allowed us to discount one ticket. This is a topic we care about, so that clinched the date!
Great movie! It is a movie, though, and not a documentary. You'll have to research where artistic license has been used and which parts are actual facts.
Operation Underground Railroad has like 6000 kids rescued so far. Maybe a sequel among those stories?

The saying that the longest distance is between the head and the heart is true. This movie drives home some strong emotional themes. There have been other movies on this topic, but this one has stuck a chord with people.
