The first science fiction film
In September 1902, the premiere of the world's first science fiction film "Le Voyage dans la Lune" took place in Paris.
Its creator Georges Méliès did everything in the film himself: the script, music, shooting and special effects.
This story is based on the novel by Jules Verne "From the Earth to the Moon". A group of scientists is flying to the moon, on a projectile launched from a cannon. There they fight with the locals and return to Earth.
Melies himself came up with the techniques used for animation and combined filming, becoming a pioneer of the genre. Then, in 1902, he was called a wizard.

"Le Voyage dans la Lune" is undoubtedly a masterpiece that marked the beginning of science fiction filmmaking. What Georges Méliès achieved in 1902 was revolutionary for its time. Not only did he adapt an iconic novel by Jules Verne, but he also innovated with animation and filming techniques that laid the groundwork for the future of cinema.
His ability to visualize and then create scenes that had never before been seen on screen is a testament to his genius and artistic vision.
It is impressive to think that in an era without today's advanced technology, Méliès was able to transport viewers to another world, and produce more than 500 films, exploring diverse genres and techniques that transformed cinematic storytelling.
This reminds me of Scorsese's film, Hugo; a story that portrays the legacy of Méliès and his contribution to cinema. By the way, one of my favorites by this director.
