Watching A Horror Film "Abigail" Alone at Midnight

The semester have been officially closed for this school year, and finally, I got to do whatever I want at home. The first thing that comes to mind was to check the list of movie titles that I have saved on my notes, but suddenly, this one movie trailer that I have watched recently pops up into my memory lane.

I was intrigued and thrilled upon watching it, because who wouldn't be a fan of this genre, right? When it's all about vampires, from the Father of Vampires which is Dracula, to the 3D movie Hotel Transylvania, and to this romance movie series named Twilight, whichever it is, I'm always a fan of this genre.

So, here I was in the middle of the night watching "Abigail" alone in my apartment since my roommates have already moved out when summer break have started. I was the only one left here since I don't like staying at home because the internet signal is too poor that I couldn't publish my written blogs.

If you're not yet familiar with the movie, here's an embed trailer video of it from YouTube.

Just a disclaimer, this is my first time writing a blog about a movie, so I might spoil anything here. Read at your own risk, I'll just try my best to give good insights here.

And, by the way, here is the movie synopsis taken from Rotten Tomatoes,

After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they're locked inside with no normal little girl.

This movie has a 4.1/5 star ratings at Rotten Tomatoes and 6.6/10 star ratings at IMDb.

I have read few reviews about this and the top comments displayed were all positive ones. I also tried looking for negative ones to balance my insights but found none. Maybe there is, but I couldn't find one out of those top reviews.

Personally, I initially thought that this could scare me out since there were jumpscares shown in the trailer video. I even start watching this at midnight, so it could make me stay up all night if there were some totally scary and gory scenes (so that goosebumps would be felt real in the most silent time of the night) 😆.

Upon watching, I found it fun and entertaining instead. It's not that scary at all except for some jumpscares that can caught you off guard sometimes.

I just noticed some goofs in the movie, just like the following scenes here. As someone like me who have a background in first aid, it's just hard not to notice these things.

When Abigail was injected with a drug to be unconscious and loaded into the van, Joey checks her pulse.

Aren't vampires considered deceased, right? Therefore, they wouldn't have any pulse. This is repeated at the second time that she was injected with the sedative to restrain her in the elevator.

When Frank was impaled with a wooden stake on his knee by Abigail, he runs off after a while just after it was pulled out and bandaged as if it was a minor limp.

Considering I've witnessed accidents in real life, it was weird. How could he? Just a fall from the athletes at school could terminate them in the games and send them directly to the hospital since they couldn't feel their legs anymore. Wouldn't Frank's knee bleed and prevent him from walking straight from that since it couldn't support his body weight properly?

I could be wrong, though. It's just my thoughts.

The best scene for me was after Abigail and Joey killed Frank, then Lazar came in and Abigail defended her saying Joey saved her.

Then Lazar emphasized, "I came when you needed me."

Dang, that hits different knowing he grows tired of his daughter and Abigail felt disregarded that's why she keeps on killing her father's enemies. With that scene, it doesn't totally disproves what Abigail thought all this time but it is something that reconciled them.

I'm gonna end this blog greeting Lazar a "Happy Father's Day!" for that one. Also, to all fathers out there, a happy father's day to all of you.

Thanks for reading and again, sorry for the spoilers.

This movie is funny instead of scary for me. But about the father-daughter, it's a sad story. Nice movie review, Ayane! I wish I could read more of your movie reviews.
