On a weekly basis, together with a group of friends, we make it our homework to watch a movie and discuss it on Saturdays. Sometimes we run out of time and discuss the movie after two weeks, but the point is that we always talk about a movie; a vote is taken in the chat on Mondays, the movie is chosen and we have the rest of the week to watch the movie. If you've already seen it, you have to watch it again to realize things you hadn't seen before, and if you haven't seen it, then perfect, a new movie in your memory. This week's movie was Persona.

Persona is a 1966 film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, and it is truly a milestone in cinema. The amount of references that Persona has given to cinema is almost innumerable, but in addition, it is not only a reference but also an inspiration, it is a class, it is perfection. To think that it was made more than fifty years ago is crazy because the beauty of the film and all its technicality still works today, with a staging and a script that was a before and after in the history of cinema, being a great film on all sides that can be seen, but, but, but, but, but... I'm tired of high cinema. I'm not talking about stoner movies or cult movies, since cult movies sometimes end up being super fun to watch, creating a cult of the extravagant and imaginative, but high cinema is a completely different thing, slow and often pretentious movies that, ok, to study cinema works magnificently, but to sit and watch movies, any day and practically by obligation, this kind of movies are a torture for the man himself, as perfect as it can be.

And I've said it, this is the second time I've seen Persona and I loved it just as much as the first, maybe even more than before, but the truth is that I'm a little tired of that pretentious cinema that teenagers love but for someone like me, who sometimes wants something to relax and just have a good time, Persona is a difficult movie to watch, at least, if it's for a social "homework". It reminds me a lot of when a friend recommends me an anime because of the fights, animation, good development and everything else, and I, who have already passed my stage, am content to watch an anime that makes me laugh a couple of times per chapter.

That's what I'm looking for now, a film that makes me laugh a couple of times, but I don't want to be misunderstood and that's why I say it so many times: Persona is a masterpiece. It's a film that I can't stop recommending if you're just starting out in filmmaking, if you want to learn how to light, frame, direct, act or write, but there comes a moment when you stop, when you want to take a break from that and look for something quiet.

Semanalmente, junto a un grupo de amigos, nos ponemos como tarea ver una película y discutir sobre ella los sábados. A veces se nos pasa el tiempo y discutimos sobre la película después de dos semanas, pero el punto es que siempre hablamos de alguna película; se hace una votación en el chat los lunes, se escoge la película y tenemos el resto de la semana para ver la película. Si ya la viste, tienes que volverla a ver para darte cuenta de cosas que no habías visto antes, y si no la has visto, entonces perfecto, una nueva película en tu memoria. La película de esta semana fue Persona.

Persona es una película de 1966 escrita y dirigida por Ingmar Bergman, y es, realmente un hito al cine. La cantidad de referencias que le ha dado Persona al cine es casi innumerable, pero además, no solo es referente sino también inspiración, es una clase, es perfección. Pensar que se hizo hace ya más de cincuenta años es una locura porque lo hermosa que es la película y todo su tecnicismo sigue funcionando a día de hoy, con una puesta en escena y un guion que fue un antes y después en la historia del cine, siendo una gran película por todos los lados que se le puede ver, pero, pero, pero…Estoy cansado del high cinema. No hablo de stoner movies o de películas de culto, ya que las películas de culto a veces terminan siendo super divertidas de ver, creando un culto a lo extravagante e imaginativo, pero el high cinema es una cosa completamente diferente, películas lentas y muchas veces pretenciosas que, ok, para estudiar cine funciona de forma magnifica, pero para sentarse a ver cine, un día cualquiera y prácticamente por obligación, este tipo de películas son una tortura misma para el hombre, por más perfecta que pueda llegar a ser.

Y lo he dicho, es la segunda vez que veo Persona y me ha encantado de la misma manera que la primera, tal vez incluso más que antes, pero la verdad es que estoy un poco cansado de ese cine pretencioso que a los adolescentes les encanta pero para alguien como yo, que a veces quiere algo para relajarse y solo pasarla tranquilo, Persona es una película difícil de ver, por lo menos, si es para una “tarea” social. Me recuerda mucho a cuando un amigo me recomienda un anime por las peleas, animación, buen desarrollo y todo lo demás, y yo, que ya he pasado mi etapa, me conformo con ver un anime que me haga reír un par de veces por capitulo.

Eso es lo que busco ahora, una película que me haga reír un par de veces, pero tampoco quiero que me malinterpreten y por eso lo digo tantas veces: Persona es una obra maestra. Es una película que no puedo parar de recomendar si se está empezando en el cine, si se quiere aprender a cómo iluminar, encuadrar, dirigir, actuar o escribir, pero llega un momento en el que paras, en el que ya quieres descansar de esa faceta y buscas algo tranquilo.
