Cult films have always seemed to me something incredible. I'm not talking about cult movies, that too, but about movies that end up being cult, like David Fincher's fight club for example..., but when I talk about cult movies I'm talking about something stranger, because even though yes, fight club was not so well received when it was released and with time it was that it got the fame it deserves, weird movies that at the end leave you without understanding what you just saw are for me instant cult movies.
That's why most cult movies end up being horror movies, because that concept of ending up disconcerting the audience is something that goes hand in hand with horror, the strange, the grotesque, so now I come to recommend Late Night With The Devil. A film that was released some time ago, but if for some reason you did not go to see it in the theater, you can now watch it on the internet and have an experience as interesting as entertaining, in what is, in my opinion, a new proposal in the horror genre.
Late Night With the devil enters into what are the fake documentaries, this time turning it around showing us the recordings of a program in the mid 70s on a special occasion, as its host, tired of not reaching the ranking of views he wanted, decides to do a late night show with what, according to his guest, is a girl who is possessed by a demon.
First of all, the atmosphere is achieved to perfection with a production and a way of filming that recreates very well the late night shows at that time, with performances that also work as a gear to make everything fit very well. This was the first thing that caught my attention with the film, since besides an incredibly great intro that works to give us context as to why we are seeing what we are seeing, the film, in my opinion, has a second act that is a little weak but also works as a comic relief that helps too much by making us lower our guard for what comes next.
I had read something like this before and during that second act I was annoyed thinking I was going to see a bad movie just because of a relatively good ending; I mean, I didn't have faith. And thank goodness I was wrong, because the film not only has a perfect length, but it also leaves you speechless and with a sense of uneasiness that few films have achieved in me, not because it is something I have not seen but because I really did not know what could happen. Something that is necessarily influenced by Cronenberg's VideoDrome or Cosmatos' The Viewing, ends up being so controversial that it becomes an instant classic like Beau is Afraid. Late Night With the Devil is, without a doubt, a cult film that in a few years will attract the attention of many new directors.

Las películas de culto siempre me han parecido algo increíble. No hablo de películas sobre cultos, que también, sino de películas que terminan siendo de culto, como lo son por ejemplo el club de la pelea de David Fincher…, pero cuando hablo de películas de cultor hablo de algo más extraño, porque a pesar de que si, el club de la pelea no fue tan bien recibida cuando se estrenó y con el tiempo fue que obtuvo la fama que merece, las películas raras que al terminar te dejan sin entender lo que acabas de ver son para mí películas de culto instantáneas.
Por eso, la mayoría de películas de culto terminan siendo películas de terror, porque ese concepto de terminar desconcertando a la audiencia es algo que va muy de la mano del terror, de lo extraño, de lo grotesco, por eso, ahora vengo a recomendar Late Night With The Devil. Una película que se estrenó hace tiempo, pero si por alguna razón no la fuiste a ver en el cine, ya puedes verla en internet y tener una experiencia tan interesante como entretenida, en lo que es, en mi opinión, una propuesta nueva en el género de terror.
Late Night With the devil entra en lo que son los documentales falsos, esta vez dándole la vuelta mostrándonos las grabaciones de un programa a mediados de los años 70s en una ocasión especial, ya que su presentador, cansado de no llegar al ranking de views que quería, decide hacer un late night show con lo que, según su invitada, es una niña que está poseída por un demonio.
Primero que nada, la atmosfera está lograda a la perfección contando con una producción y una forma de grabar que recrea muy bien los late night shows en ese entonces, con actuaciones que también funcionan como engranaje para que todo calce muy bien. Esto fue lo primero que captó mi atención con la película, ya que además de un intro increíblemente grandioso que funciona para darnos contexto del porque estamos viendo lo que estamos viendo, la película, a mi parecer, tiene un segundo acto que es un poco flojo pero que también funciona como un alivio cómico que ayuda demasiado al hacernos bajar la guardia para lo que viene después.
Yo ya había leído algo así antes y durante ese segundo acto estaba fastidiado pensando que iba a ver una película mala solo por un final relativamente bueno; quiero decir, no tuve fe. Y menos mal me equivoque, ya que la película no solo tiene una duración perfecta, sino que también te deja sin palabras y con una sensación de desasosiego que pocas películas han logrado en mí, no porque sea algo que no haya visto sino porque realmente no sabía que podía llegar a pasar. Algo que obligatoriamente bebe del VideoDrome de Cronenberg o de The Viewing de Cosmatos, termina siendo tan controversial que se vuelve un clásico instantáneo como lo puede ser Beau is Afraid. Late Night With the Devil es, sin duda alguna, una película de culto que dentro de unos años llamará la atención de muchos nuevos directores.

I gave up halfway through but this film has very high review ratings and now you are saying it is worth it as well. I guess I'll fire it back up and watch to the end to see if it leaves me speechless as well.
