"Drawing Closer" (a Japanese film)

To be honest, I really don't like watching movies or TV series with sad endings. I prefer watching happy endings just like some fairy tales, romance comedies, inspirational family stories, feel-good movies and TV series. So, mostly I just skipped all those with sad endings, until I saw the trailer of ”Drawing Closer”, a Japanese movie on Netflix.

”Drawing Closer”, from the trailer itself, I already know it would be a tear-jerker movie and I can already presume a sad ending from it. I really don't like such stuff to happen in movies, much more in real life. However, I was just so curious to see how they tackle their situations, because I know these situations can be very relatable in real life. So, I watched it!

Luckily, I didn't have to regret watching the film because despite how sad and hurtful it was, there were a lot of valuable lessons. Lessons of hope, pure love and courage despite knowing the fact that they have a limited time in this world.

The movie Drawing Closer follows the intertwined lives of two teenagers with terminal illnesses who met at the hospital rooftop, and from then on they bonded over art and found love. Akito Hayasaka portrayed by Ren Nagase - a 17-year-old artist who was diagnosed with a rare heart tumor and Haruna Sakurai portrayed by Natsuki Deguchi, positively told Akito that she only has six months left to live. That made Akito rekindle his will to live.

Everything in this movie is portrayed so beautifully and the cinematography is amazing. Every scene is beautifully done and it's full of emotions that draw me closer to the characters that I couldn't hold my tears.

This is the most beautiful yet saddest movie I've ever watched. I was also drawn by the meaning of “Gerberas” *(friendship, love, facing death)”.

This is really a must-watch movie, especially for those looking for a genuine portrayal of life, love, and death. And I think this movie gives courage to many people like us to not give up easily despite the limited time we have.

So, I’m encouraging you to watch this movie and I'm pretty sure you won't regret it.

I'll just end it up here. Thank you for reading. Until next time.
