Based on a short story by author Philip K. Dick, the show follows the futuristic adventures of construction worker Douglas Quaid (played by Schwarzenegger), who is implanted with false memories of what happened on Mars.

Later, an undercover agent of an organisation tries to prevent him from recovering his memories of his past as a Martian agent in order to stop the brutal regime of the Martian dictator Velos Cohaagen (also known as "Cox").

"Total Recall is an extremely expensive film to make, with a budget of $65 million, making it one of the most expensive films in history.

Despite mixed reviews, the film was a box office success, grossing over $260 million and eventually gaining a following that considered it a cult film in the sci-fi genre.

Personally, I found this to be one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's best films and one of his best performances.

The plot is clever and unpredictable, the action scenes are gripping and the special effects have held up well over the years.

Overall, this is a film that keeps you in suspense in both its plot and its fast-paced action, and as its ending is somewhat ambiguous, the film has given rise to many theories about it.

Like other films such as Starship Troopers, RoboCop, Minority Report or The Terminator, I consider it crucial in the science fiction and action genres.

It was directed by Paul Verhoeven and in addition to Schwarzenegger and Velos Cohaagen, Rachel Ticotin, who plays Melina, a tough, rebellious woman who becomes Quaid's ally and possible love interest, also played important roles. Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to unravel the secrets of her past.

Sharon Stone plays Lori, Quaid's wife, and Michael Ironside plays Richter, Cohaagen's ruthless underling.

The film won Best Science Fiction Film at the 1991 Saturn Awards. It also received nominations in categories such as Best Actor (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Best Supporting Actress (Rachel Ticotin) and Best Special Effects.
