The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)

The title is as suggestive as The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and the poster also has the names of Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell, who you will probably know as long as you don't know Yorgos Lanthimos, known for directing psychological thrillers, black comedies and horror films.

This is not a commercial film. The Killing of a Sacred Deer is an independent film, a Greek tragedy, Haneke's cousin, influenced by Buñuel and Kubrick.

Anyone familiar with the director's work on such gems as "Canine" or "Lobster" will not be disappointed. Lanthimos continues to give us no answers. This is a sober, cold, poetic, symbolic, harsh and powerful film like no other.

It is impossible to leave the cinema without being shocked. Moreover, once the film grabs you, it doesn't let go until the end.

There is a hypnotic beauty in the brutality we witness, in which Greek mythology plays an important role.

For the audience, the fate imposed by the "gods" is a complex answer, whoever accepts it as valid should be prepared for the curve ahead, whoever does not, will spend the rest of the film searching in vain for a logical answer, as it only makes sense within the world of Greek mythology.

I always recommend Yorgos Lanthimos. Because it irritates us, annoys us, hurts us, slaps us enough to open our eyes again and expand our minds. This is always good.

The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in the main competition section of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
