A simple story but one that for me, personally, has produced a certain emotional charge. A sad story, full of darkness, sinister and delirious. Set in a Turkey that is not exactly the postcard.
I interpret it as a metaphor of loneliness. The permanent search for things that give meaning to life. Love, that love that usually arrives unannounced. Where is it written that I can't fall in love with a zombie?
The Funeral is a humble production, but it makes a very good use of resources.
It charges the atmosphere with a sinister and, on quite a few occasions, macabre atmosphere. With good characterizations of its two main protagonists.

Two interpreters absolutely unknown to me, Emrah Altintoprak (Semih) and Cansu Türedi (Zeynep). Both of them offer a curious and singular interpretative duel.
Obviously, this is not a film that is easily digestible, nor is it one that is going to have a big box office. It's not even easy to find, let alone grab your attention. Perhaps, though, if you come across it, it's worth a look.
It tells a love story, mainly, where legends merge into a story where two people, one living and the other revived (not sure why), come together against threats from the outside and trying to survive in an outside world where they cannot live and will never be accepted.
Arrhythmic, it has some very good moments, with intrigue and suspense achieved and some slow ones.
But, as a whole, I think that, within the blackness and violence of the story, it also has a special charm of cinema made with dedication, not too many means, but attractive and suggestive, at least as far as I'm concerned.

Falling in love with a zombie? That must have been so hard for the couple. I'm a fan of horror but I have a feeling the gore in this movie is on a level I'm not so used to. A nice review this was
