The Crow (2024)

In this spoiler-free commentary, I will attempt to review the film on its own merits without comparing it too closely to the 1994 marvel. I'll list all the parts I found average:
-It takes too long to tell us who the characters are and how they know each other, so the results of this investment are poor: Eric is sad and in a correctional facility, we don't even know why, a relationship emerged. nowhere. there is no emotional conveyance, virtually no chemistry between the actors, the romantic sequence is cliché and meaningless.
-There is no sense of narrative rhythm. So much time is spent on exposition that the main revenge plot remains just an echo, something of an afterthought. The set-up from the beginning of the revenge story is clumsy, the main character development is inorganic and changes his personality at a forced pace.

-The fight choreography is very stilted, unreliable and uninteresting. They are tired.
-There doesn't seem to be a coherent aesthetic approach. Judging by the street names, the film is set in contemporary Detroit, but it shows a different, marginal, upper-class environment, no-nonsense. It seemed that no one had contributed anything to the story or had anything to say.
-The criminals are confused. Charm aside, his desire to give the villains more motivation connected them to the murder in a less random way, leaving the audience wanting more explanation, coherence and concern. The film feels too much like a MacGuffin and, as a result, fails to pique interest.
-The soundtrack could be worse, but overall there are too many moments that are annoying, out of place and, most importantly, don't fit.
-I don't deny that Bill Skarsgård is a good actor but he doesn't shine at all in this role. In fact, for me, the main problem with the film is that Eric is an unappealing character: in the first part of the film, he is a sad boy in love with Shelley; In the second part, he is the pawn of a character who appears in Purgatory to guide him: revenge never comes from Eric, but rather this random character tells him that he must take revenge. When Eric breaks away from his more human side and chooses violence, he appears to be a robot acting mindlessly, driven by what he has become rather than his personal desires. People demand justice through revenge.
-There are a few characters besides Shelley and Eric, but none contribute anything. Eric's friends, the masters of the underworld, the small-time villains, Shelley's friends.... They all have no charisma, no personality, add nothing to the plot and are of no interest. I feel that actually, as a standalone film, with no referents, it could turn out to be mediocre; Being new to The Crow, this seems like a bad joke to me.
