My Friend the Penguin (2024)

Jean Reno plays Joao, a Brazilian fisherman tormented by a past event who finds a penguin stranded on the coast, takes care of it and becomes attached to it.
From that moment on, and without his knowing it, this event will change his life forever... and for all those around him.
How will he do that for himself and for the residents of his town? Based on a true story, “My Friend the Penguin” fulfills its purpose to entertain and does so effectively by telling the story of the friendship between a bird and a human.

Jean Reno gives a great performance as does the rest of the cast, all of whom are excellent. In my opinion, it is a well told and well acted story; it can hold you still for 90 minutes.
Much feared that despite the interesting plot, this film directed by David Schurman would not go unnoticed.
“My Friend the Penguin” is one of those films that seem childish, but are enjoyable for the general public. Due to its premise, it may remind us of other similar films, in which people and animals appear.
In this case, most of the scenes are shot with penguins and, as a result, the viewer is immersed in the landscapes of Brazil and Argentina and observes the life of these creatures up close. The cinematography is fascinating, which rounds off this nature viewing.
But not everything in this film is perfect. It has many pluses and some minuses. Perhaps the writer could have further developed Jean Reno's relationship with the townspeople and his associates, and created more drama in this passage.
Nevertheless, I recommend My Friend the Penguin. If you are lucky enough to see this movie in theaters, you can be sure you won't regret it.
