Moana 2 (2024)

The story is set just after the events of the first film, now being that Moana's people dare to leave the reef to get supplies.
However, the protagonist receives a call from the gods about the location of a lost island that in ancient times linked all the islands in the ocean.
So Moana creates a crew made up of a couple of the island's inhabitants to go on a new adventure, in addition to searching for Maui.
The script, however, lags somewhat behind. The plot seeks to explore new adventures and challenges for Moiana, but it feels less fresh and exciting than the first instalment.
Although it attempts to delve into themes of community responsibility and connection to one's roots, it occasionally loses pace and resorts to predictable twists that dilute its emotional impact.

This sequel has a rather bland humour for my taste, because although it has brought a smile to my face, in general I didn't laugh much at the comic moments, something that I really liked in the previous one.
The songs are good, they are not as memorable as the first one, but they are entertaining, maybe they are worse because of Miranda's absence.
The animation, like the first one, shines a lot, because of the use of intense colours in the sea and all that, but it's more of the same, so it doesn't impress as much.
The highlight of the film is undoubtedly its impressive visuals. The Pacific Ocean landscapes, tropical islands and magical effects are recreated with a level of detail and colour that dazzles.
Disney once again demonstrates its technical mastery, with fluid animations and designs that transport the viewer to a world full of life and magic.
Moana remains a charismatic and courageous character, but her narrative arc fails to evolve as much as one might expect. Maui's return brings humour and dynamism, although her role seems more secondary this time around.
The new characters have potential, but some lack the development needed to leave a lasting impression.
The high expectations built around this film work against it, especially considering it's a sequel to one of the best modern Disney classics.
Maybe if this had been a series as they say or a standalone film it would have worked better, but Moana 2 delivers as okay entertainment for the whole family, which is the basic goal of the vast majority of films of this type.
Nothing else to highlight from this second part, without being the eighth wonder, I had a good time and it lasts just enough.

Although it is still a visually beautiful film, from what I have seen in trailers and promotional material I feel that the first part was superior. I understand that it was originally going to be an exclusive series for Disney Plus and it was readjusted, even so, the quality standard is still very high.
