Memory (2023)

The main couple is Sylvia (Jessica Chastain) and Saul (Peter Sarsgaard).
Sylvia works at a center for the disabled and spends her free time at her daughter's and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
For his part, Saul does not have a day-to-day life like Sylvia.
He cannot understand it because he has been suffering from dementia for some time.
That's why he lives with his brother and daughter between confusion and sanity. Until one night he follows Sylvia home and this strange event brings them irremediably closer.
Because in Memory, people who seemed far away and without a future turned out not to be at all. And in the end, if the two do anything at all, it will be a life full of wounds that will require companionship.
Sylvia tries not to remember the traumatic violence of her past, which often frightens her. Almost locked in her own home.
Carrying within her an almost nameless pain destroyed her completely.
And Saul fell into a state of panic and oblivion.
Gradually they will surely approachtheir demise as people who are alive and remember what they have been through.
A seemingly impossible relationship begins to bear fruit when Sylvia is hired to take care of Saul.
At first I was a little worried because of the erratic changes in memory.
Because Sylvia doesn't want to remember her terrible past and because of this great pain, she sometimes changes some of her pain so that it's not so heavy.
And in that natural defense, she meets Saul for the first time and mistakes him for someone else.
Until little by little she felt complicit with that helpless man , which terrified her.
But can loveexist without memory?
Will you be able to make plans with someone in the abyss of oblivion?
And of course, is there room for healthy relationships after violence?
To love and be loved without the demons inside that make you tremble?
A truly fascinatingrange of topics that Memory tackles with intelligence, great taste and great empathy for his characters.

Here, director Michel Franco shows a sweetness perhaps not seen before in his films. This is thanks to some excellent lead actors .
Because Peter Sarsgaard was a scared little boy. Confused by this ugly word “dementia”.
In this regard , the scene where he lies naked in the bathroom until Sylvia comes to pick him up is very significant .
It shows what skills he should focus on.
The consequence was certainly his suffering in the past.
Wouldsomeone who has experienced a lack of focus become more aware?
Memory is a great movie.
A romantic film about two people suffering and finding refuge for each other. A woman who hid a history of abuse and a man diagnosed with dementia.
Theoretically the union is impossible, but both will live between fear and unexpected joy .
