John Q. (2002)

This is a drama directed by Nick Cassavetes and scripted by James Kearns.

The plot centres on John Q. Archibald, played by Denzel Washington, a father who, when his son suffers a heart attack that requires a heart transplant, becomes desperate when he cannot afford the medical expenses.

At the hospital, he is helpless as he sees his child bedridden, hooked up to machines that keep him alive.

The medical bureaucracy seems heartless. He tries every option but no one lifts a finger to save the little boy.

John makes a drastic and desperate decision: he takes the people inside the hospital hostage to force the authorities to give Michael a compatible heart.

The film explores themes such as a father's struggle for justice, inequality in the healthcare system and the moral dilemmas that arise in desperate situations.
