It Ends with Us (2024)

Colleen Hoover, who has become a best-selling author, presents the film adaptation of one of her most famous novels: It Ends with Us.

For this, the director is Justin Baldoni, who also plays one of the main characters, already experienced in this genre of youth adaptation thanks to his debut film “Five Feet Apart”.

However, it must be said that this new project, although it fits into this classification and tries to fit into it, is a work for adults.

The plot moves between the present, which is the central axis of the plot, and flashbacks to the past, revealing nuances of the hero's trauma.

Meanwhile, accompanied by constant (and obvious) metaphors about the world of flowers, the plot becomes an absolute drama marked by abusive relationships and angry tensions that can make people uncomfortable.

Due to the gravity of the story (domestic violence), it is understandable that this approach causes some discomfort to viewers. However, all is lost when the constant use of sweetened music and contrived dialogue erodes the spontaneity and care that the story deserves.

In a way, it all becomes frightening and sensational. All in all, It Ends with Us becomes a film that aims to please fans without delving into the seriousness of its subject matter.

Although every statement contains positive messages of partnership or final calls for hope, the bittersweet aftertaste remains, along with another question:

Is our happiness in our own hands or does it always depend on the romantic support of others?

Wow. I do love and appreciate this review and I'm definitely going to be seeing this movie now. I read the book years back and it always spoke to me. I hope the movie relives that experience for me. Beautiful review.🌺
