Hold Your Breath (2024)

Taking us to 1930s Oklahoma, with a stunning sandstorm backdrop, the film offers a plot that is never driven by the presence of the three Franks, who unfortunately can never be together to complete the task at hand.

The reason is that the script never seems entirely convincing, meaning that the idea remains just an idea, without the necessary support to bring the story to its central point.

While the power of the cast is able to get out of certain situations and always keep the viewer in the realm of what we are given, the film loses its power even when its hero takes control of the show.

Even the inspired moments from Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Amiya Miller keep the story flowing in a way that makes us feel grateful.

The lack of certainty in their scenario will ultimately determine the entire outcome of the proposition we are presented with.

Neither the horror, nor the drama, nor the surrounding tension are strong enough to create a moment of pure power, and the film ends up being an oversimplification of many ideas that needed to be realised and generating emotions without enough structure to ultimately turn the proposal into something unforgettable.

On the positive side, we can praise the work of the actors, especially Sarah Paulson, who, for all her talent, managed to do something with her character and her performance gives hope to the film, but as the story progresses and her character becomes unbearable, we are also left with less intention.

For its part, it has some moments of terror, well conveyed by the direction and cinematography, which at least manages to create an unsettling atmosphere.

In short, the lack of transparency and the ease of exploring interesting ideas on your own makes the film end up being unsatisfying and leaves a stigma on a film that could have been made. much better for its material, but ended up covered in dust, which is also reflected in the photo of when it was taken.

There is more to a film than people think, but unfortunately it was not a success.

Sometimes a production's script can be overlooked if the interpretation of roles by the cast was superb. But I guess this isn't one of those. Thank you for sharing!

I think there is little to rescue here, but this is my personal opinion, maybe for others this movie is good.
