It is an interesting film, although I do not consider it easy to watch, especially for Western audiences.
First of all, three different languages are used (English, Korean and Japanese), and their use is significant, so I would recommend having good subtitles at hand or, better yet, understanding those languages.
Secondly, it is necessary to have a basic knowledge of feng shui, that pseudo-science that focuses on the harmony of the environment.
Although the film offers explanations on this subject, there are moments that can be confusing for those who are not familiar with it.

Finally, it is important to remember that Japan invaded Korea in both the late 16th and early 20th centuries.
Knowing the context of these conflicts is useful, otherwise it can be difficult to follow the plot when mention is made of traitors, tigers, samurai, the division of Korea or the Joseon dynasty.
This need for additional knowledge, coupled with the complexity of the narrative, means that the film does not quite work, despite its good presentation.
The complexity of interweaving Korean history with Japanese legends overshadows the horror element, as we are so busy assimilating information that we often forget to be scared.
Visually, the film is stunning, with superb photography and carefully crafted shots.
An eerie, evil atmosphere pervades the days, while a mystical horror dominates the nights.
The performances are solid, with Choi Min-sik and Kim Go-eun standing out, and the special effects and make-up are at a high level.
‘Exhuma’ is divided into several chapters or sections, beyond the acts of the main structure, each facing a new obstacle for the protagonists.
As the chapters progress, we learn more about shamanism, the characters' abilities, their past and the various beings that inhabit the land.
The director seems to offer a contemporary view of South Korean shamanism in 21st century society, fictionalising the supernatural aspect, but showing how this ancient religion is still present in everyday life in South Korea.

I quite enjoyed it also because I'm a fan of the main actress, for me it was quite a good scary movie, but maybe too long.
I found this proposal interesting, especially for the fact of revealing many things about oriental culture.
